NFL Thread 2013-14

I wonder.

Tbh, Hooman+Gron isn't really enough TE for the Pats, they could well do with a third again. Being able to line up with two attacking TE's again would be of great benefit to them. On the other side, rumours are about of a Gronk exit.

Gronk exit? Nnnnooooo!! :(

I hope we give Gronk at least one more shot to get on a run of games again. After getting back last year he was incredibly unlucky to tear his ACL. We look so good on offense last year with him there too compared to when we did not have him.

Then again on the other side of the coin given his injury issues bill might look at him as a trade option? I hope not :(

Aye, injury prone and IIRC 1 year on his contract, rumours are that they're looking to get some value out of him. I'd prefer we keep him of course, I have no doubt if he could stay healthy he'd be the best TE in the league, even over Jimmy Graham.

He signed a 6 year deal in 2012. Rumours from where?

Why would you trade your second best player.

Coming off an injury where his 'value' is at its lowest.

I can't remember now, read it in a few different sports websites. The vale idea was get something, rather than nothing, but if he's contracted until 2018, it was probably all bollocks.

Its okay, my panic is now over, had a look around the internets and there is nothing of any substance to add to said horrific rumours. Not even a quote out of context, Keyser makes a good point anyways, coming off two injury ridden seasons his value would be at its lowest.

NFL talking about messing around with the Extra-point rules, seems that with only 5 actually missed in the season just ended they are thinking that it is just too easy. Initial indications are that the balled will be snapped from the 25 yard line instead of the 2, making it a 42 yard attempt instead of a 17. Though kickers still made 83% of field goals between 40 and 49 yards last season, it might make the idea of going for 2 (which will still take place from the 2 yard line I guess) something that comes up more often. Not that it happens often, but I think the defense should be allowed to return a blocked or missed XP attempt and get three points if they score.

Another idea being floated by some writers is to just go ahead and make a TD worth 7 points, though that takes the strategy of going for 2 away. Though at least one writer I read suggested make it worth 7 unless you want to go for a two point conversion which could make it 8 if you make it, 6 if you fail to convert.

It's about time they did something, it's been a non-entity forever. If the extra point was from the 25 and 2-point still from the 2, that would be interesting because statistically you'd be better off going for the 2 pretty much every time. I like the suggestion of 7 if you don't go for it, 6 if you do and fail, 8 if you do and make it.

That'd be the best way, would up the speed of the game slightly too, and it's somewhat safer, as there are less plays.

I wonder how the kickers would feel, having a lot less to do throughout a game.

I mean I think that's the reason it's taken this long to potentially do something about it, the kickers union. Tough titties I say.

Maybe it'll mean the Jets don't give out the franchise tag to a fecking kicker.

Just been catching up, good business done by the Eagles getting 4 major pieces back, cap friendly deals as well. Leaves us with around $27 million in cap space to work with this off season.

Well for 42 yards (the ball snapped from the 25) kickers still made 83% of field goal tries. I think the 2 point conversion success rate is somewhere around 50% (though runs are like 60% successful and passing only around 40% successful). Obviously game situation would play into because if you have a big lead why not just take the almost sure one point.

Looking at it quickly if those stats held true you would score a few more points each season always going for 2 points.

The other question is would those stats hold up if 2 point conversions were more frequent.

Reports indicating Patriots have upped intensity in negotiations with Edelman, Hooman to be resigned and apparently a deal with Talib is close to completion.

Colts could do some nice business with that cap room.

Where are you reading those reports, Sparky?

They'll be dangerous this year. They're solidly run and generally don't piss their money up the wall in free agency like the Raiders or Redskins.

That's way off on the Jets, they have $39.5m, and that's with Sanchez still to cut

Won't they take a hit on the cap if they release Sanchez, though?

(maybe I'm thinking of last year)

Nope, that was last year. They'd get an extra $8.3m if they cut him any time soon, or $10.5m if they cut him on June 1st.

Ian Rapoport. He is now saying the patriots have offered a 3 year deal to Edelman and want an answer before the start of free agency. I hope it happens, really like Edelman I do.

I'm not sure on the accuracy but the table was posted by the NFL today.
Perhaps it's something procedural which has meant Holmes and Cromartie's cuts have not yet applied. Either way, the Jets are loaded. Although now going to have their third-rounder downgraded to a fourth because of Uncle Malcy fecking off Revis Island.

Yeah I think certain cuts have not been applied to it. fecking Jets, I hate them hope they do shit business this summer...

Ah, ok. The Jets are in good shape cap-wise. If they could put together a half-decent offence they'd actually be useful.

Yeah, I've seen the Edelman reports in the last hour. He's a good player, but he's not essential. Better than Amendola at any rate.

I reckon if Edelman stays then Amendola will probably be cut. I would be okay with that to be honest.

Don't blame him. He's a 7th-round pick who, apart from last year ($1m for the year), has been on 7th round money for his career.

Why not test the market?

Some twitter rumours Talib will also test fee-agency.

Given the choice between Talib and Edelman, I'd prefer we kept Talib. Although it would be nice if both re-signed and we added to them instead of replacing them.

If will lose both I will be very disappointed.

If you are concerned with how your team's offseason is going, console yourself with this.

My Raiders, despite having the most cap space in the league at $65m+, have lost their two best players to free agency. Veldheer and Houston. Both still young and both developed via the draft, allowed to walk.

We have signed Saffold for i think more than the Ravens paid for Monroe... Despite him struggling to stay healthy.

WTF?!

Yeah, I have no fecking clue what the Raiders are doing.

Whispers that Revis back to the Jets could be a possibility, don't see it myself, but it would be absolutely hilarious if Idzik picked up Sheldon Richardson and a 4th for one year of a rehabbing Revis only to get him back for what they were offering in the first place.

Jets miss out on Davis (Colts) and Verner (Bucs), beginning to think Revis is actually a possibility.

Saints got Byrd.

Talib to Denver :( Big loss.

Twitter suggesting we may go after Revis now.

Just catching up on the latest now, talib to Denver, gutted about that one :(

We have to go in for Revis now I reckon and I want us to resign Edelman more than ever now too.

Talib was far too injury prone for that kind of money. Both AFC championship games he went out injured, so good luck to him. They won't get Revis because they're too cheap and he'll want big money before joining a winning team.

I think they should pay Edelman because he was more productive and more reliable than Welker imo. They need to offload Amendola.

$57M over 6 years which includes $26M guaranteed? Jesus christ, for a player that has left the last two AFC championship games injured they can have him at that money

Im glad the Pats didn't match an offer like that.
