NFL 2024 | Super Bowl LIX

Mahomes was pretty poor all season let’s be honest. He’s still obviously capable of the ridiculous hence the fear of a comeback even going into the fourth quarter but the Chiefs record this season was absolutely not because of him.

I’m not saying he’s done, but it’s certainly not beyond the realm of possibility that he might not reach the same heights again.

I bloody hope.
No way he’s done sadly. It was just a down year, in a season when let’s be honest - he didn’t have a stable o-line, no real running game to support him, and a makeshift wide receiver group.

I think it’s mainly a case of, he’s played at such a high level so far in his career you just expect it to continue every year. But it’s inevitable he would eventually have a down year. What’s quite terrifying is that they still made the superbowl.

Over time, it’s reasonable though to expect his performance won’t continue to be so “wow”. And the intangibles of being able to read defences before the snap and the mental aspect of elite QB play will become more and more important, especially as he grows older and the ability to be so physically electric as a QB naturally subsides.

It will be interesting to see how he develops that aspect of his game. It won’t always be so easy as having a great offensive scheme every year. Or being able to scramble and throw off the cuff dimes over and over again. In seasons like this he will need to learn to beat defences pre-snap - something which I don’t think he’s had to worry about so much so far in his career.

And fundamentally that’s what made great QBs like Brady, Brees and Manning to name a few able to continue being great deep into their careers.

So it’ll be interesting.

Chiefs almost reminiscent of Peps Barcelona. Their Plan A is so good they don't really have a Plan B.

I think clearly the Eagles D dominated the Chiefs Offence as a whole but over time the noise will increase on how bad Mahomes played himself and failed to take his opportunities. Let's see if the Chiefs fans and commentators can resist defending him..

Also let's be honest Mahomes looked defeated long before the game was over and that tarnish is hard to wash off when you're meant to be the goat and a champion
Yep. The two massive beatdowns in the SB are going to hurt him long term when it comes to his placing amongst the greats.

When looking at the stats he already dipped in 2023 and it just continued this season. 27:14 and 26:11 TD/INT ratio while averaging 4k yards is very, very average, and his yards per attempt also heavily went down compared to his earlier days. I don't know whether it's down to Mahomes himself or whether the Chiefs are taking a different approach with him but the offense wasn't really functioning this seasonso "great offensive scheme" is certainly pushing it imo.

Could be related to Kelce's downfall as he always found pockets of space in coverages and basically was his safety blanket time and time again, if you listen to the new New Heights ep from yesterday he certainly sounded more out than in for next year to me. Their defense is strong enough so they can heavily invest in O-line this offseason and draft. They have their power slot in Rice and speedster in Worthy, just need a big reliable X receiver (what Hopkins was before but isn't anymore sadly). And perhaps drafting a RB later on who can catch balls out of the backfield, dunno. Not a huge fan of Pacheco.

I agree that Mahomes isn't done or anything like that but it also wouldn't surprise me if they regress to something like 11-6 or 12-5 next season and are not the 1 seed in the AFC for a change. But on the other hand, can't see them not making the playoffs as long as Mahomes and Reid are up and running.

As much as people can blame the o-line the guy was scared of his own shadow even when he had time.

He then was deflated on the sideline making faces. That's not who everyone says he is.

I think mahomes himself was the smallest factor though. Eagles talent level and chiefs O line being the biggest factors, chiefs fairly benign and aging receiver team, chiefs coaching issues, lack of run game, and a couple of mahomes mistakes in that order.

As a thought experiment I don't think any pocket qb in history would have done a better job in the game. I could see someone like Lamar or Allen making more happen on their own and forcing eagles to sacrifice a player for a spy, and making they make a couple more first downs in the game and still get stuffed.

As time goes by, apart from the big o line problems, I see chiefs fan realising they need a new o coordinator after such a poor offensive season as well as some kind of run game.

Nfl content is just unmatched. 40 minutes mic'd up for the superbowl is pretty sick for Eagles fans.

Hope Rodgers follows Favre and now joins Vikings

I’ve seen the odd clip not never watched the podcast properly before. I’ve always liked Jason and I can’t help like Travis as much as I hate his team.

Let this be the last post of this thread*
RBs should be considered for Most Valuable Player. Y’all taking the wording too literally… great individual seasons should be considered; it shouldn’t be decided on some algorithm for EPA.

*this should be the last one ;)

Yup, same here. There was a point midway through the episode where he was like "I still get to play this game I love and get to go home to... amazing friends and family", but there was a little hesitation in that one and I honestly thought he was trying his best not to say "my super famous billionaire girlfriend" just not to wind anyone up any further

Jason Kelce is great as well, would love it if he'd do more in the media the upcoming seasons. Only slight against him is that he's sometimes so humble that it comes off fake, like the "I didn't do feck all for this title" part. At face value he didn't but he obviously has played a huge part in each of those O-linemen's careers. Super grounded though and doesn't take anything for granted, just needs to be aware not to fall into the "beer chugging table jumping tailgating" persona too much.

Proper GNev vibes.

Being self-deprecating is admirable and endearing up to a certain point, then it just becomes a bit pathetic. I don't watch the Kelce brothers' podcast that often to know if that is what Jason is doing, but if it is, then yeah I can see why people may think he's overdoing it.

Marginally better but not enough to change the outcome. That level of pressure from 4 guys? With a turnstile OL?

Plenty of Tom Brady praise (deservedly) in the past few days but he was similarly seeing ghosts in the 2007 Superbowl on the verge of going undefeated against that Giants DL, and it was similar tactics he couldn't just deal with.

Interesting how confident the Eagles players were going into the game

I've had a migraine ever since we drafted Daniel Jones and stuff like this doesn't help
