NFL 2023

$56 million over the cap. Gonna be an ugly March.

We have some ability to restructure some bigger contracts, but we will have very little FA action.

Now this will be a true rebuilding year.

Just had a look at OverTheCap.

Bears have a huge amount of space so have the opportunity to be active. Bengals have a good amount of space too, considering how good they already are.

There’s so many teams who are over and yet are pretty wank… will be interesting to see how they adjust.

Many people decried the 49ers appointing Griese as the quarterback coach and it turned out pretty well, Jimmy G was playing the best football of his career and then Brock Purdy stepped in and was outstanding. I wouldn't be against something radical when it comes to Russell Wilson, it's clear he needs a big change as he was nowhere near last season.
His regression is one of the most puzzling things I've ever witnessed in this sport TBH. It makes more sense if we view the last year in Seattle as the start of it, because most thought at the time that it was a temporary blip based on the injury he had that season. On the other hand, I refuse to rule out the possibility of him having a bounce back in the upcoming season under SP because I'm not just going to forget about all those years of high production and say for definite that it's over until I see enough crap to make it inarguable. He was on his way to Canton eventually IMO (the fact that he's started in multiple SBs helps in this regard. He's got no All Pros or MVPs though, but that's not fatal) and he's messing it up and putting doubt where i believe there wouldn't have been so much. Not saying that he would have been first ballot of course, but I think he was on his way to getting in at some point. Now I think it depends on how the Denver stint plays our.

You never know.

There's form for a team who won the superbowl 2 years prior and are going through a rebuild year...

I think the Bengals might just need to keep that cap space for Burrow's extension. There's already been plenty of trade talk that they might not even keep Higgins this offseason because an extension would cost them too much.

This top right Mahomes thread is amazing. The best stat is probably the results of top half passing defense Vs bottom half pass defense. Ps unsurprisingly Lions looking decent here too.

Some draft prognosticator has us trading two firsts (this year's & next) to get into the top 10 so we could draft the QB who puts mayo in his coffee.

Didn't know Rodgers had declared for the draft

Combine this weekend, finally some "action" again

Hoping that Gibbs runs a sub 4.3.

Have the Bengals missed their chance (in Super Bowl 56) or will they get back? History suggests that it will be very difficult for them, even though everyone assumes it will happen

There's no guarantee they'll be back given they are in Mahomes' conference and all the other elite QB talent in the AFC (Herbert, Lawrence, Allen, Lamar).

Like Burrow said in his presser though - their window is always open as long as he is there, at least for the foreseeable future. Given that he's one of the only ones who has done very well against Mahomes H2H, they still have nice odds to be back in the SB sooner or later, but no one has that guarantee.

Yeah for sure. It is very tough. And when they have to pay Burrow the big bucks it gets even harder. When I was looking at the list of QBs to start multiple Super Bowls in relation to Wilson, I checked out the history of QBs who lose their 1st SB and it makes for grim reading in terms of being able to get back. Most of the time they never get back. A few times they get back and lose again. And then you have a vanishingly small number that get back and win, Elway being the most prominent and most recent example. The other two guys that fall into that category played about 50 years ago, when it was a completely different sport. Basically, Burrow's got to be on Elway's level to make it work. Which is possible, he's a number 1 overall pick in the draft as Elway was, and he has played exceptionally well so far. I do wonder whether Taylor as the HC is going to be enough though. I know big Lou is a brilliant defensive mind and he's still there so that helps, but I worry about Taylor. Not saying he's not a good coach but is he elite? Remains to be seen

Commanders have released Wentz, Falcons Mariota.

I doubt that kind of thing is even legal.
I don't have the first clue about how a hiring process is regularized in the US - and not even sure you can call college recruitment "hiring", of course.

I mean there's nothing wrong with taking into account leadership skills or high school achievements when hiring players, but the household stuff is weird as feck and discriminatory. And even when you'd be applying such a system, I'd sure as hell make sure to keep very quiet about it.

It’s the kind of stuff some dudes come up with, after being told for years how brilliant they are. It sounds like he really believes he’s on to something. Which is incredibly funny.

A lot of this mentality stems from the old school recruiting wars in South Florida between the big three FL schools, especially in the impoverished area around Lake Okochobee. Schools like Belle Glade were legendary regarding the athletes they would put out on the regular. One rarely saw a pro style QB come from down there, but it wasn't odd to see two or three Belle Glade defensive players go in a recruiting class to FSU or Miami. You wanted kids to go to war with, go to Belle Glade, Clewiston, the Miami schools like Central & Northwestern & recruit. This was starting to become en vogue when Deion was recruited.

Why do these things always come out on such specific timings, e.g. draft night for Tunsil, the day someone is scheduled to speak at his combine outing for Carter, ...? This thing is almost two months old.

Also kind of confusing, did people die? It mentions "fatal crash" but doesn't go into detail. Not that street racing isn't awful and dangerous behavior in itself, but if people died as a result of that... Feck sake.

Sounds like he was racing against the vehicle which had the two people who were killed in a crash. That must be the 'character concerns' McShay was talking about: an impending arrest warrant.

As for the timing, it could just be a coincidence and a result of the 'efficiency' of the US legal system.

Whilst not confirmed, if he was street racing against his teammates when they crashed and fled the scene instead of helping them then "character concerns" is an understatement and he would fall into the "piece of shit" category.

Claiming what exactly? You weren't even top 5 :D

Bryce Young measured in above 6'0 - rejoice!

I doubt that kind of thing is even legal.

Oh naive children...

His crime is vocalizing this out loud. If you think he's alone in this I have a bridge in the Mississippi Delta (the inland one) to sell you

But it's a very simple exercise to look at where players are sourced from in the US, sliced by socio-economic background and position.

I'd create a computer program to visualize this if I wasn't a lazy feck.

Just because I don’t think it’s legal doesn’t mean I don’t believe it’s happening a lot. I actually think stuff like this is absolutely common within scouting departments or recruitment. It’s stupid, pseudoscientific bullshit. Which makes it just perfect for some moronic sports scouts.

Oh it's definitely stupid pseudoscientific bullshit.
