Byrd from the Jets was paralyzed back in the 90’s. I don’t recall something like this or how that panned out…there have been deaths but they’re usually during practice in the summer months with the heat.

Probably a previously unknown existing heart condition that somehow under the circumstances did this. That's usually been the trigger for soccer players as well when something similar happened. It's rarely something extraordinary that happens to trigger the cardiac arrest. It's rather the kind of thing that was always going to happen one day to the relevant person when doing heavy exercise - and then suddenly it does.
