NFL 2021

Some interesting comments here, looks like Elway and the Broncos are as much at fault as the Giants are even though it would likely be harder/impossible to prove. Also the fact that they think they can get to 40 black coaches who want to join forces is quite the number.

This looks like it will get messy.

I think they could quite easily find 40 black coaches who have a valid case. The issue though, is that unless we get to the stage where this is so big it’s almost a revolution moment, you won’t find anywhere near 40 who are willing to risk their livelihoods and careers to be a part of it. Which is sad.

I'd like to think that even after this concluded (and the bag was secured), a Belichick would bring him back on as an assistant.

I'd love nothing more than for our dirty laundry to get aired out in court.

I absolutely hope this isn't the end for him in the NFL. It would be a pretty incredible stand if someone hired him as HC whilst this is ongoing. But fair play to him, he says himself he's doing this knowing it will likely cost him his dream of coaching in the NFL.

I was thinking that and it would be impossible to blame them. Asking people to potentially sacrifice themselves and fall on the sword for a bigger cause is a huge ask. It sounds like Flores thinks he has enough numbers to make a huge wave and I hope that's true. I hope he doesn't end up going solo against NFL and these billionaire owners.

Wouldn't mind him at the Saints at all.

Yeah they could easily find 40 probably, but indeed 40 who want to testify is a different matter. Some black, established coordinators simply won't want to risk their future by joining. That's not the right "moral decision" but can't say that I fault them, it's their livelihood and job at risk after all.

Bit boring in my opinion, and as was pointed out earlier it doesn't have a good shortened version like the Pats, Bucs, 9'ers, etc. I suppose that goes for a lot of team though.

Should have stuck with Football Team. It was really growing on me, and it is certainly the most precise.
I think WC is a good shortened version. WC fans may not however.

Confirmed. Think I liked Presidents better, not sure which other names were still in the running.

The name is fine to me, but I'm surprised they're still sticking with the W as the primary logo. Seems a bit dull.

I never did like "Football Team" though. Would've been cool if they were allowed to just be called Washington during the temporary no-name period.

Should have called them the Dan Snyder sexual harassment experience.

There’s a guy in northern Virginia that trademarked a ton of the possible names betting that at some point that the ‘redskins’ would be changed. This is going back a few years.
I can’t find that long list of names he owns but surely Snyder could have paid him for a better one than the commanders.

There could be yet another opening in this coaching carousel. Panthers’ fans have really soured on Rhule and it’s rumored he’s on shaky ground with one year to prove himself, so he could jump back into safety in a big college gig.

Imagine being criticized for doing your job well. The draft system overall provides parity, but it does create some weird incentives on occasion.

Even worse, being offered money to throw games. If that can be proven, that surely can't be allowed to stand.

Harbaugh to the Vikings is done but not done just yet.

There could be a settlement that goes up to 400-500 millions, I feel.

The Broncos rebuttal of the Flores allegations seems pretty robust. Obviously don’t know if it’s true or not but it’s very direct. I hope the claim hasn’t tried to be too “catch-all” to include bits which might not have as much strength and in turn which dilutes its integrity and provides a path to try and shoot down all of it for those attempting to do so.

That’s intriguing. The Panthers really are in a bit of bother aren’t they. One of many, many teams in need of a QB, but unlike some have very few attractive points to try and draw them in. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Rhule jump ship, especially if he has future aspirations of coaching in the NFL again. Although not quite sure what’d be viewed as worse - the fact he bailed or the shite season the Panthers are destined for with or without him.

What do you guys think about the Vikings having a 9 hour interview with Pat Graham? According to reports the new GM personal picks are Harbaugh and Graham but Harbaugh is supposed to be his pick as an HC. I don't think that you interview Graham for that long just for show, even in the context of the Rooney rule it makes little sense since they also interviewed Morris and Ryans. Is it possible that the Vikings went around the rules and interviewed Graham for an other role and labelled it as an HC interview to not need the Giants' permission?

I have heard that there is only one black HC who got hired with less than 5 interviews.
On the opposite there are some white coaches who have been hired after one interview.

Hence I would not conclude anything from the length of the interview.
It is also unlikely that it was a 9-hour-long-interview. A 9-hour-talk does not equate to a 9-hour-interview.

That's not really the point. The point was more about why Graham would be that different from the others?

The point is, there seems to be no structure in these processes, so I would not read too much into it.
So, it may appear that there is difference from the outside, but it might mean nothing if you look at it from the inside.

So your answer is that you don't have a guess.

Rhule is really making me look bad for touting him to be the next big thing in coaching. He turned not one but two hapless 1 or 2 win college programs to double digit winners and contenders in their conferences. Thought he was a sure thing.

He might be, but can’t turn a team around in the NFL with Newton or Darnold or Walker. In fairness, he got a fair amount out of Darnold all things told. Not to mention the star RB was out. The gradual decline of the defence was odd though.

Circling back to the Denver-Flores thing…it turns out they probably did look like shit, as they had just interviewed someone else and caught a red-eye to get to Boston at 2:30AM because the Patriots would only make Flores available at 7:30AM. I’m not absolving them of fault entirely as they had likely already made up their minds and thus the interview was a formality, but as usual there is more to the story.

If anything the Bieniemy interview this year was more of a sham because even I knew he wasn’t getting the job. Besides, Elway often shows up hungover so Flores shouldn’t think of himself as being special in that regard.

I don't know if Flores has much a case since the Giants seem to have wanted Daboll from the beginning once it was revealed Joe Shoen was going there. If anything, it shows the NFL needs to hire outside arbiters to oversee hiring since the Rooney Rule isn't really working.

The case is there and pretty obvious, just if you look at the stats.
However, it would be probably good if 2-3 other known names join him.
