See when it comes to this Im not really honed in on where the big rivalries are in NFL, so in terms of regional hatred would this be like a Man UTD v Liverpool type of intense hatred?

In baseball, yes. Hockey and basketball also yes to a lesser extent. NFL, not so much because these two teams aren't in the same conference so they don't play every year. The other New York team, the Jets, have a much more heated rivalry with the Pats since they're in the same division and play each other twice a year. Boston vs New York will always be a rivalry in the sense that Manchester vs Liverpool will always be a rivalry, but this is more along the lines of United vs Everton or Liverpool vs City than United vs Liverpool.

Edit: That said, the Giants ruining the Pats' perfect season in the Super Bowl a few years ago has added an extra revenge angle to this game.

Which surprises me, because last year's game wasn't that great and neither was the one the year before. Steelers vs Cardinals was by far the best game from beginning to end and that was uncharacteristically exciting for a Super Bowl. I think once people get past the steep learning curve, it's fun to watch, but it's hard to do when the marquee game of the year is often a bit of a dud.

Denver vs Green Bay was still the best and most exciting in my lifetime of viewing (since the mid-80s).

I think that one was the first close game in a while though, wasn't it? I think since Giants - Bills it was easy NFC victories for a long time until that year.

Now that I think about it though, since then we've had more good games than I give credit for. Rams - Titans, Pats - Rams, Pats - Panthers, Giants - Pats, and Steelers - Cardinals.

This Underwood reaction amuses me. He was active for eight games or something like that so will get the full Super Bowl losers pay, which the team now deserves for cutting someone before the Super Bowl. He had a classy reaction to it and I'm sure he will be at their camp next year. There is no way he found out about it the day before by the way. There has been bottom of the roster movement prior to games all season and they have had informal agreements with the likes of Underwood, Silvestro and more importantly Ventrone all year. Yes its the big game and tough on him but if they feel having an extra defensive lineman in the game over a likely inactive is a plus, then go for it.

Oh I have no doubt it makes perfect sense from a pure football perspective. It's one of those situations where everything makes sense, but it just still sucks. He's still a part of the team. He's just assured of not being able to get the chance to say he played in the Super Bowl this year.

Is Ocho active? I had a dream last night that he caught the winning TD

I'd love it if he caught the winning TD. He's done nothing of note this season and wasn't even active for the AFC Championship game. I thought Ocho would offer us the deep pass option that we've lacked since Moss left but he has hardly made any catches. It's an area I'd like to see us improve next year by having a deep threat.

I read that Silvestro was called up to take over the Gronk's special teams duties. Nothing official as they never comment on these things, so speculation of course.

Got my Wes Welker Pats Jersey at the ready, I hope they're not expecting a productive day from me at the office tomorrow.

My mate (Giants fan) purchased a Manning jersey this week for the 'bargain' price of £40. He was so gutted when I told him Nike are now the sponsors of the NFL and that his brand new jersey will be out-dated once the game ends. Fool.

Bills-Cowboys Part Deux was good until the 3rd quarter started and Buffalo committed three turnovers (if memory serves) turning a 13-6 lead into a 27-13 deficit. Cowboys-Steelers was a tight contest too.

Rams-Titans was garbage for 50 minutes. Pats-Giants wasn't that great either, not until the final few minutes.

Prediction:

I'll be watching this shit. Tell me all about it. Who are the favourites and why. Who are the Terrys, Giggsys, Welbecks and Smallings. Etc. Thanks in advance.

And when's kickoff?

Where were you when I made the Ask Me Questions about Handegg thread? Honestly I recommend you get some sleep and catch highlights in the morning. I'm not saying that to be mean. I just can't for the life of me fathom why people who don't like watching the NFL would stay up late to watch this.

Kickoff is some time around 23:30 GMT.

I actually watched last year's final too, veezy. Watching other sports when the stakes are high is fun. The only thing I remember, though, is Black Peas' horrible performance.

We want the Pats to win Laph because the Giants fecking robbed us last time.
I am down with wanting Patriots to win, but I'm not sure why.

Well in that case, Pats are favored because they're the Pats I guess (my best guess for bettor rationale). They have a very powerful offense, but a fairly awful defense as well. Their plan is to simply outscore the Giants. I don't think they're going to do that because the Giants have a very, very tough defense that will be incredibly disruptive to the Patriots' offense.

Players to watch:

Patriots: Tom Brady (quarterback), Rob Gronkowski (tight end, look for him to make some big plays catching the ball)

Giants: Justin Tuck, Jason Pierre-Paul, and Osi Umenyiora (defensive linemen who will look to smother Brady before he can throw or at least make him rush his throws), Eli Manning (quarterback), Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks (wide receivers that might catch a lot of passes if the Pats' shaky defense lets them), Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs (running backs who might get a lot of yards if the Patriots don't do a good job of tackling).

Madonna at half time, wonder if she can make it out of the stadium at the end without feeling the need to adopt some random child

Sounds like there are more NY fans.

I wonder what Peyton is thinking? If little brother wins he has more rings than the mighty Peyton but will he really want Brady having another Superbowl win?

If you're a betting man, this is the exactly the kind of event you want to bet. All kinds of bets you can make with great odds. Hell, you can wager on the fecking coin toss.

my wife told me that she will agree in swinging with Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen

now, if any of you be kind enough to pm me their phone number ...

i'll post pics ...

sky or BBC folks.

going with sky just to honour their commitment over the season

I tell you what really impresses me about this sport, some of these lads are fecking huge and look like they could crush you with little or no effort

BBC, no fecking ads like sky will have

I'll also say that commercials have been extra annoying this year in the NFL when it comes to frequency. In the US, it's okay for the Super Bowl, because the commercials are part of the entertainment, but overseas, if you're just seeing the same old commercials, be prepared to see them a lot.

Looks like BBC are using the NBC coverage, maybe it won't be too bad then

Unless I'm mistaken, only NBC are allowed to show it in America so Sky will have the same feed.
