"52 seconds, and we need a fieldgoal. *yaawn* Alright then."

3 throws, boom. Discount Double-Check.

Although he did it to be funny, I wish more players would just get on with it after they make a play. The 'look at me' attitude that most players have is annoying as feck. The worst offenders are special teamers who gang tackle a return man and cornerbacks who 'defend' by the receiver dropping the ball without being touched.

I can actually deal with it if you score a goal in football, but in American football, they celebrate things that happen literally 80 times a game as if they're the first person to ever do it.

Goals are a bit more rare than touchdowns, so I'd put those on about the same level of celebration-worthiness. American Football is naturally divided into individual plays, so I think it's okay if people celebrate even the little victories, especially if they're at important moments.

That said, context is everything. If you're celebrating giving someone a big hit when they still managed to catch the ball and get a first down, I think you've lost sight of what's really important. If you sacked the QB and you want to do your quick ritual dance, I'm probably okay with that. If you did the same but this time want to do a coordinated team celebration, that's a little too much for me. Fine line for me, I guess.

;) it's not quite that bad but i know what you mean.

yup...don't like anything staged. have you noticed rodgers and matthews aren't doing much this year. veeeeery few belts or enraged bodybuilder poses. they seem more serious this year.

First of all Jgray, do NOT follow the Jets. Go with a team with a good young QB and core who you can watch develop over the next 5 years, as you learn more about the game. Tampa Bay, St Louis or even Detroit spring to mind, I would probably go with Bradford or Freeman at this point. Atlanta is a good one too.

So we did our draft and I ended up with this lot - how does it look?

Payton Manning
Ray Rice
Rashard Mendenhall
Steve Johnson
Brandon Marshall
Larry Fitzgerald
Kellen Winslow

Bench

Sam Bradford
Tim Hightower
Mike Tolbert
Beanie Wells
Jacoby Ford
Steve Smith

Kicker

Josh Brown

Defence

Patriots.

I know Manning isn't 100% yet but shouldn't be far off. Jacoby Ford I think from my research has the potential to be a dark horse in this years fantasy.

So anyway, any stand out problems?

Hello again! after my first couple of posts in this thread i managed to forget all about it! well a bit of an update for anybody interested in how a guy completely new to NFL has got on and found the sport so far!

My team - Well i said i needed a team to follow and initially said the buccs but i didn't really feel any kind of connection to them so it was a shortlived thing. I picked a rookie qb up in the first week of the season by the name of Cam Newton and have never looked back! I follow the Panthers, they're not the greatest team but from what i've read and been told they're revitalised with Cam Newton and he's a player i really enjoy watching. I ordered my Panthers jersey today (1st ever NFL purchase!) with Super Cam on the back. I also had Steve Smith in my team and it was great to see the pair of them working so well together primarily for fantasy reasons but then as a fan the more i watched them. It was always the case that a great Newton performance would mean a good Smith return points wise, but that's dropped off lately but in my humble opinion that's because Newton amd the Panthers have learned how to utilise their offense more effectively and the run has become more effective especially through newton himself. Stewart & Williams are splitting carries with neither appearing to be stand out but it looks as though the Panthers are going in the right direction!

Cam newton in my opinion is offensive rookie of the year, Dalton & Green at the Bengals have been very good but i've found that Dalton hasn't performed when up against better D's and well lets be honest Newtons numbers are better than Daltons. Don't get me wrong both are great but Newton posseses more in his locker than Dalton for me.

Fantasy wise, well Newton of course took over from Manning and has done a great job but elsewhere i've struggled for consistency, This week being the first that both my rb's (rice & mendenhall) have performed on the same week! My WR's aren't consistent enough and my TE who is now Owen Daniels can only be regarded as reliable. So with all that i'm looking like coming up short for the play offs but more due to poor luck than anything! I'm top sorer in my division for points scored but i'm 6-7 which isn't enough at the minute for play offs. I've lost two games against the same player both times by less than 0.2 points!! Which will annoy me for a long time yet!

Anyway there you go, NFL from a newcomers perspective!

The belt/discount double-check thing is fine. I always figured that was more joking than anything else. And it's quick.

I had never watched the NFL before I knew I was going to study here in Minnesota. The first game I ever watched all the way through was Vikings loss against the Saints in the NFC Championship Game (grr). And then I watched the Superbowl of course.

Since coming here I've watched pretty much every Vikings game I've had a chance to see (could change that to any NFL game I had a chance to see this year, I've watched a LOT), as well has having season tickets with my schools team (the Gophers - who are shit). It's a really fun game to watch! This year I've been really into it, especially when Ponder entered the scene. I will probably keep following when I go back to Norway, even though it will be harder as the games will be late at night or in the middle of the night. No channels that I know of show it either, which means streams!

Marcello, please tell us you're okay.

Sport certainly ain't worth dying over, so I'm ok. Just pissed at Garrett's coaching style. They had like :20 and two timeouts but let's just walk to the line and spike the ball with :07 and settle for a long, long field goal attempt from a guy that had already missed once from shorter range. Then ice your own kicker by calling a timeout right as the ball is snapped and watch the kicker split the uprights with distance to spare. :wenger: The miss and loss was inevitable from the on. Garrett outthought himself. Dallas lost yet another game they should have won (that's 10-2 on the correct result table ;)).

Oh I wasn't serious. You guys are still in good shape. Luckily Detroit is having a much bigger meltdown.

Gronkowski is a fecking beast whether he is catching or blocking. Second to only Witten in that mould of player at the position for me and he's still improving. The 2010 draft is looking really special for tight ends, though the likes of Graham and Hernandez are essentially slot receivers.

One week after getting lit up by Dan Orlovsky, the Patriots D is getting burnt by Rex Grossman.

He's only 22! I've only watched the NFL for a few years but I've never seen a QB favour 1 receiver in the redzone as much as Brady does Gronkowski.

Defense is still getting burned through the air, should be a close conclusion.

They should hold up, the bad fourth quarter against the Colts has carried on to this week. Due to a combination of bad personnel decisions and injuries two players who were fighting each other on special teams two years ago are now starting at safety, which says it all. Its far from ideal but they are winning, which some fans seem to think they have a divine right to do.

Edelman's role is not ideal either but his aggression and the ways he competes is impressive.

Edelman is a good tackler, whether it be on special teams or defence. What is Chung's injury? I think he is a big loss. McCourty is looking better today, more aggressive.

I just don't see how we can expect Brady to continually outscore the better teams when we get to the playoffs. We need some stops and to me the way Grossman has moved the ball today is more worrying than last week.

Its down as a foot on the injury report, but its a strange one. Mainly because he was good enough to test it out pre-game three weeks ago and has still not made it out there. Hopefully, they are holding him out so he is healthy for the Playoffs and it has not got worse.

In the AFC Big Ben is the one QB who is capable of spreading them out, taking advantage of bad personnel consistently and matching 12 if he plays well. The rest are hit and miss for me. I just don't worry about them losing, its just more of an enjoy the wins and see what happens approach. 2007 kind of changed the way I feel about it if you know what I mean.

Houston win, Saints look to have won as well. Good close games again this week.

Just saw the ending of the Bengals-Texans game. What a fecking ending that was. That's what sport's all about, isn't it? 3rd choice QB takes his team all the way up field within the two-minute-warning and scores a touchdown.

Falcons showed up in the 2nd half and make Scam Newton look awful. Julio Jones had a huge 2nd half with 2 TD's and 103 yards to go ahead and seal it.

Saints hold on for the win.

What an end to the Detroit game. On replay clear face mask penalty not given. Isn't there any sport where the officials are not blind feckers?

feckin hell. 49ers run a beautiful fake field goal that would've scored a touchdown if it stood. Apparently Arizona threw the challenge flag right before when it was clearly a catch. There was a problem with the replay booth so they couldn't even review the play. Replay fourth down and the Niners obviously can't run the fake again so they kick the field goal and miss. Then on the very next play Arizona throws a touchdown pass.

feck this shit.

Rodgers & the Packers are toying with the Raiders. Unless Rodgers decides he wants to do an impersonation of Curtis Painter for a day I don't see any team stopping him from 19-0.

Tebow gets it done yet again, unbelievable. I know he really didn't get it done tonight (2 awesome FG's by Frater) but you can not deny his presence has really lifted a franchise.

Packers win a laugher 46-16. jennings' knee injury is a worry. donald driver needs 26 yards to have 10,000 for his career. chiefs up next.

GO PACK!!
