Nfl 2008-2009

I reckon the Boys will dismantle the Giants in the Playoffs this year if they get them again at Texas Stadium.

Green Bay up 10-3 at the half.

Oakland and Denver kickoff in a little over an hour

Decent start by Rodgers in this game, especially on the touchdown throw where he must have gone to at least his fourth option.

Both of the games are being shown on television here as well, looks like a late night for me.

Cutler should have a good season this year. He is a better player than Young or Leinart by quite a bit.

I completely agree, he was a complete steal at 11. Vince Young is one of those top top top college players, who wont ever be that great in teh NFL. Leinart's arm strength has always been in question, and is more of a product of the USC system than anything. Cutler has all the tools to be a prototypical NFL star QB, including a cannon for an arm.

They have Mike Mike and Mike covering the game, one of which is Ditka

The Broncs are gonna miss Marshall in this game he is gonna be a star

17-0 at halftime the Broncos look pretty good

DeAngelo Hall is getting burned by Eddie Royal at the moment. He loves to talk the talk as if he is a shutdown corner but he is not, the sequence of personal fouls against Steve Smith last year was ridiculous. The Raiders were stupid giving him all that money although they topped it by giving a reciever with a bad knee an equally ridiculous contract. He is not even the best corner on his own team.

Eddie Royal is looking like a good pickup by Denver

41-14 very good display considering it was on the road, was surprised didnt expect that much out of us this year, things are looking up

Merriman out for the year, AFC West looking even better for the Broncs

I have heard these shirts are doing good business on the net!

Can't believe he did not get a fine when Wilfork did for his hit on Losman last year.

I think he was stupid to even give it a go anyway, no point in putting his career in jeopardy for one season.

Obviously good for the Bronco's but I think they will still do well. That Carolina loss was strange in many ways.

He was kinda getting pushed from behind, totally speared the knee with his helmet too, and MCL and ACL go snap

Yeah this will hurt their D, but that offense is great when LT gets going

They also gave some scrub DT a $50m contract. Javon Walker is the injured receiver you mention. He was close to signing with Dallas on a one or two year incentive laden contract with minimal salaries (rumored around $1m per year salary) before Oakland made a ridiculous offer. Believe Jerry Jones or another person within Dallas management said they had no grudges against Walker taking that contract.

Why does the media suck his cock so much? The guy took steroids. He was caught cheating. Yet he gets a free pass. Still gets a number of endorsements and is a poster child for the league. He'd be enemy number one if he played for Dallas. I find it comical that people hate the likes of Bonds and Clemens but give NFL players a pass on steroids.

I hate Merriman as much as anyway but its stupid to say he isn't a great player even if he is a cheat

Well Barry Bonds was a dick to everyone and no one likes him. People get a lot more pissed off at baseball players for being on roids then football players for these reasons

1) It is America's past time
2) Some of the records broken are held in very high esteem by the public and they don't want these records associated with douchebags like Bonds
3) Football is a much more physical sport where people expect the players to be on roids. Maybe expecting the players to be on roids is a little strong, but maybe the fans are more forgiving of the players because we see them week in and week out beating each other up.

Yeah the Home Run record contributed a lot to the hatred of Bonds, probably would have barely got 500 had it not been for the steroids(still a top top player beforehand, but all his achievements are permemantely tainted)

DeMarcus Ware is every bit as good as Merriman. He doesn't get the hype because he's not an all-out pass rusher posting monster sack numbers (though he gets double digits annually and has just 5 fewer career wise in the same number of years). Merriman can't cover a TE or RB in the open field like Ware can. They're both great tacklers and I often see Ware make tackles on the opposite side of the field.

.....and he plays for the Cowboys

I agee with MrMarcello on this one.

In terms of the 3-4 outside linebacker I think DeMarcus Ware is the best, his coverage skills are better than Merriman's as well as his instincts in the open field. Though, Merriman is obviously a pass rushing beast and got better in other aspects last season. When I have watched Merriman against the Patriots he was stopped in the most important times of the game by Light who is not a Pro Bowl calibre left tackle in my opinion. Ware however, even though he may not have been getting sacks was always in the backfield disrupting the offense. Vrabel is another all rounder as well and when it somes to setting the edge on the run he is better than all of them.

Everyone looking forward to todays games?

Im waiting for the Pats tonight, as annoyed as I am about Brady, i really am interested to see how Cassel steps up, whether we get someone else in (Culpepper has been talked about..), and whether we now rely on Maroney more.

Bit worried about today's game, if there is one team I dont want to see the Patriots lose to its the Jets. Im sure Mangini has all kind of new looks and blitz schemes to try and rattle Cassel as well, they have managed to do it to Brady at times never mind him. This is his first meaningful start since high school, as he was the back up to Leinart and Palmer at USC. The opposing quarterback has a tiny bit more experience than that! Maybe its just the pessimist in me though, im sure he will be put in a position to succeed. He has a strong arm, athleticism, a good team around him and the best coach in the league.

On Culpepper, I can't really see it happening though im sure Moss would have been lobbying for it. Since his knee injury he has not been the same and was poor for Miami and Oakland. I dont think he is really a fit for the system anyway. Matt Gutierrez was also re-signed to the practice squad and has been put on the main roster now I think.

I cant see Culpepper happening either, but I guess it really does depend on how well Cassel performs. Im ready to see lots, and lots of Blitzing and pressuring the QB by the jets, hopefully Cassel can counter on this by using the sharp runs by Moss and especially Welker.

how long do games actually take? from punt off or whatever its called till full time?

might watch one of tonights matches

60 minutes playing time in four quarters.

Goes on for considerably longer than that though due to the stop start nature of the game.

Up to like 3 hours ish.

Force yourself to watch it, its worth it! Pats on at 9 on SS, worth a watch.

Pats at NYJ
SD at Den

kickoff soon

McFadden looked great today against the Cheifs, who actually look worse than the Raiders

Escape for Green Bay there! Bit of an anti-climax though after a brilliant 3rd q by Lions. Cummon Pats!!

I hate the Pats, but also hate how everyone is repping the Jets now. I hope they tie, hahahaa; As Brady is out for the season and NE has no chance of winning the Super Bowl I actually hope they win today, just because the Jets have become so overrated

Thanks mate! I think.. Yeah, im still hoping we can pull off a play-off challenge at least.

I know what you mean about the Jets, Favre pissed ALOT of people off, when I was on holiday in the States talking to people (and playing a little bit!), even dolphins fans were a little annoyed at his attitude. I think we will win, Welker will be his usual amazing self, and Cassel will, hopefully, grow some.

I want to see Favre get leveled by someone this year, this has really lowered my standing of him; it's like Elway playing for the Vikings or Marino the Giants or something like that. I had a Favre thread right after he retired in March, adn I said I was sure he would be back

Haha SD couldnt get a call overturned because the replay equipment wasnt working. feck you San Diego!

Playing well untill that last play. Cassel loosing it a bit in the end zone, looks pretty solid though. Im impressed.
