Nfl 2008-2009

It wasnt anything compared to what happened to him in the 2003 Championship game, it's amazing he has done so well, surely he would have been a better player had that not happened

Thanks Keyser, it was one hell of a hit.

Was that a completely legal hit by NFL rules? Or was it borderline?

It was clearly borderline, they have been talking about on sports shows all day here, certainly not the worst hit ever though

It was said on Mike & Mike this morning (I think that show) that players would much rather be hit in the chest, helmet, shoulder, anywhere above the waist. They say players hitting them at diving/leaping angles below the waist is more dangerous. Seeing all the leg injuries from those types of hits I can see their point. But head-to-head hits are extremely dangerous. It's unique how the NFL became a helmeted league when the early days there weren't helmets, then came the leather headgear which really didn't protect anything. The league has become more violent in regards to players acting as missiles to stop other players knowing that helmet can deliver a blow. There weren't head on hits 50 years ago before the hard helmet came into play. Granted there were plays that would be unsportsmanlike and probable ejections in today's game (i.e. clothesline, blows to the helmet with arm/hand, etc.).

I would agree, just look the McGahee hit in 2003 v Ohio State. It was a bad hit but wasnt super dirty although helmet to helmet I dont think he really let with his helmet, he just went in with such ferocity that it happened

'You play to win the game. Hello? You play to win the game'

There are rumours of Mr Shanahan being first in line to be his replacement.

Awful fit,

Why let him think he still has a job into January !? Find it a bit funny the timing of his firing, must have checked all avenues before getting rid of him.

Shanny would be an idiot to go there why not sit out until a more attractive job becomes available, he is making over 20 mil over the next 3 years if he just sits out. He also is building a 30 million dollar mansion in Colorado and is opening a steakhouse somewhat like Elways(which is feckin sensational) maybe it is a ploy to get Jerry Jones interested, because if they got him they could well win teh Super Bowl next year

It's gonna take far more than Shanahan to get Dallas a championship. First step would be a real GM with actual football knowledge. We all know that's not happening.

Is the Superbowl going to be any good this year? I watched the one two years ago between the Colts and the Bears, and it was quite good.

Friend of mine wants to know if I'm going over to his on Sunday evening to watch it. Am I?

This is gonna be a shit Super Bowl, hope the Steelers win, not my favorite team but certainly one I have a lot of respect, more than any other team(this side of the Broncs) in the AFC and damn near the NFL

Not gonna be shit, it's probably more unpredictable than Warner's Rams win against the Titans.

We all know how that game turned out

The difference is the Steelers have the best defense in the league, that should make the difference, watch them go and lose now :(

They played well against the Eagles D, which in my opinion is as good as the Steelers D, if not by statistics than personel.

Last year is proof the previous games this entire season, mean piss all

I respect the Steeler history, organisation and their coaches. They play the game how it is supposed to be played and it's the type of football I like to see as a fan. They have been very consistent over the years throughout the organisation and are a very good drafting team. They also spread the wealth i.e. salary cap among the whole squad rather than having it held up in 'star' players, then going on a run before the shit hits the fan financially. Very similar to the Pats in the way that they try to give themselves a chance to go deep every single year. I don’t really ‘hate’ any of their players either since Porter left; I like how the likes of Ward play the game.

The only thing I don’t understand is some of their proper fans – they come across even stranger than Jet’s fans at times. For example this week they decided to print and wear t-shirts with a picture of Brady and Gisele on it, saying ‘you enjoy your ring and we will enjoy ours’ or words to that effect. Not only is it very presumptuous, but why on earth are they concentrating on a team who is not in the playoffs and they beat soundly, or indeed a player who has played 10 minutes the whole season. Weird.

It is because of them that I want the Cardinals to win. Plus it would be a triumph of an explosive spread offense over a very good defensive team and coach. Something which I wish had happened last year.

Well noticed.

Steelers fans, and Pittsburgh fans as well, were the most humble fans until the "terrible towel" business.

A city that loves its sports, but they go so OTT when it comes to winning teams.

Last years penguins run was unbearable, especially around here with Crosby being the star (He's from where i'm from)

It's happened several times before, but usually the team with a great defense will win the SuperBowl when they meet.

That is weird about their fans. Although a shirt with Gisele alone would be fine

Class Of 2009 Announced

Wide receiver Bob Hayes, guard Randall McDaniel, defensive end Bruce Smith, linebacker Derrick Thomas, owner Ralph Wilson, and defensive back Rod Woodson make up the Class of 2009 Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinees. The six-man class was elected by the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Selection Committee who met today in Tampa, Florida. The newest members of the Hall were selected from a list of 17 finalists that had been determined earlier by the committee.

Hayes, a gold medalist track star in the 1964 Summer Olympics, combined his world class speed with great hands. “Bullet Bob,” a three-time All-Pro pick, caught 371 career passes for 7,414 yards and 71 touchdowns.

McDaniel was named All-Pro nine straight seasons and voted to a record 12 consecutive AFC-NFC Pro Bowls during his 14-season career with the Minnesota Vikings (1988-1999) and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2000-01).

Smith, the first overall pick in the 1985 draft by the Buffalo Bills, is the NFL’s all-time sack leader with 200 career sacks. A member of both the NFL’s All-Decade Teams of the 1980s and 1990s, Smith was named first-team All-Pro nine times and voted to 11 Pro Bowls.

Thomas amassed more sacks during the 1990s than any other player. He was selected to nine Pro Bowls, named All-NFL three times, and was All-AFC seven times in an eight-year stretch.

Wilson founded the Buffalo Bills in 1959 and has watched his team win back-to-back AFL titles in the mid-1960s and become the only team ever to advance to four consecutive Super Bowls. He was an integral part of the AFL’s success and has also served on a number of important NFL committees over the years.

Woodson, a member of the NFL’s 75th Anniversary Team in 1994 and selected to the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 1990s, intercepted 71 passes which he returned for an NFL record 1,483 yards and a record 12 touchdowns. He was named All-Pro six times and voted to 11 Pro Bowls.

The 2009 class will increase the number of all-time greats permanently honored in the Pro Football Hall of Fame to 253.

So you're another one who thinks this game will be shit?

I have no clue how this game will fare. Hopefully more entertaining the first 50 minutes than that Rams/Titans performance. If that game didn't have the frantic scores in the final few minutes followed by a great goal line stop, everyone would have forgot about that Super Bowl.

Shit Bob Hayes how the hell is he still eligible, for those of you who dont know before he played for the Cowboys he won two golds in Tokyo Olympics, one in the 100m; I guess NFL players arent good sprinters

Haha, I was like wtf is Ben Graham. THe kicker of the Arizona Cardinals hahahaha from Australia no doubt. I hope the Steelers win to be honest, and I hope Ben Graham pulls a Gary Yepremian

How in feck Shannon Sharpe didnt get into the Hall is beyond me, first ballot player no doubt about what a joke

Veteran's committee perhaps?

As for Sharpe, how often do TEs get in on first ballot? I can't think of the last TE to get in the HOF. Newsome perhaps? He'll get in someday.

I'm still baffled how Drew Pearson is missing from both the HOF and the Cowboys Ring of Honor. He's every bit as good as Stallworth and Swann. Owned numerous club records that Irvin eventually broke.

Excuse me all, but I had to sneak in and say this is about as uninteresting as it gets... Have fun watching commercials and may the best team win, whoever is playing :boring::)

I cant wait for this one.

Really excited, and looking at the snow, work will be off tomorrow (I work in a school), so I wont have to worry about how much coffee I drink!

Muller, how did you get along with your tickets for Pats - Bucs?

By the time I went to buy mine all the lower sideline tickets behind the Pats bench were gone. Got upper ones instead.
