You gotta be kidding me, those journos are really stealing a living.

Haha I love this... How much longer will this stupid rumour last? He's not going to leave Barca at this point in his career. Why the hell would you? Great weather, great club, great players around you, potential for more and more success.

For Manchester? No offense but really? It's another rouse to get more money. Once again we are being used.

Yeah, everyone knew we had this one tied up in June. Don't know how they've only caught onto it now.

Woodward must love United being in the news then. Even the journos that usually get the Woody leaks are running with this story now. We get linked with so many players and so many phantom bids, that I can only think its a marketing strategy. Think about it, as bullshit sounding as these rumours are, they generate a huge amount of traffic.

To be fair being linked with these players is no bad thing. We all know it's rubbish but it shows the club still has a bit of pull. It won't happen but while media focus on this maybe we'll move for someone else!

Just to be tedious on the topic of what a Spanish release clause is and why it can be used by a clublike United - if we want to pay the full release fee immediately, in cash, and we (and the player1) are willing to go into illegal negotiations to agree a deal (including the medical etc) beforehand.

Recycling my post from the Herrera thread.

Just to be tedious on the release clause thing. There is only one case of a Spanish club (or player) having to pay tax on the deal. It is very difficult to get clear case law on the subject because the actual forced release clause mechanism is almost never used - as it can be troublesome for both the buyer and the seller.

The reason there is ambiguity is because the law itself is ambiguous. I'll leave this in Spanish because the specific interpretation of the words is critical.

What that appears to say (and why you need specialist lawyers) is that a player can unilaterally cancel his contract. However, it then says that when his old club receives the prescribed compensation his registration can be transferred to his new club. It does not say explicitly that the player must hand over the money himself. Because of this vagueness, lawyers can step in and earn a healthy fee at this point, and then the buying club can hand over the cash on the player's behalf, without the player ever possessing it himself.

The Spanish LFP agreed during the Bayern/Martinez case that the clause should be interpreted as a contract compensation clause as described by FIFA.
If a professional is required to pay compensation, the professional and his new club shall be jointly and severally liable for its payment. The amount may be stipulated in the contract or agreed between the parties.

Which again is interpreted as meaning the club can pay the money without the player touching it.

Any lawyers/tax advisors on the board will know this is the contract law equivalent of a minefield for the club/player and a goldmine for the lawyers. As I say, actual case law (as in cases that have gone into tax arbitration or into court) is basically non-existent. So any club using it will be very wary and will probably put an insurance policy in place if the amounts involved are large.

I don't refer indeed to the million players we're always linked up and it didn't happen. I'm rather on our latest transfer dealings after Fergie and Gill where afterwards it was confirmed that we had interest and how they went. With a few exceptions I don't think we're doing too good on the market. Yes, Bastian and Darmian were great deals this Summer, but some of the dithering over the last couple of years is nothing to brag about.

Batistuta, Shearer and Kluivert are examples of players we wanted and didn't get, but we did get Cole, Yorke, Ronaldo, Nistelrooy or whatever backup we had in mind and we did it fairly quickly.

I can see our transfer policy a bit stabbing in a dark. We try to get some players and if it works ok, if it doesn't we pay premium when we're hard pressed by time, or results.

I don't know who exactly is to blame - Woodward, Moyes, LvG, that would probably come out later.

DDG situation is as well not something to brag about, or the other 4 keepers in the stands.

Bastian, Darmian, Schneiderlin, Memphis in the same summer is one hell of a window by any standards. Romero seems decent enough as well.

To me, the plan is fairly obvious... get the team solid defensively and get one of the most promising attackers in football in.

We still need one more attacker on the team and we want to see more dominant football on the pitch, but I wouldn't call the powers that be dithering or whatever, because it's probably one of the best windows I've ever seen. There's always holes in the squad and they are almost never completely fixed.

Goalkeeping, might or might not be an issue beyond the deadline, but anyhow, my point was that there's nothing embarrassing about being linked to a player like Neymar.. however unlikely the transfer might seem.

I think that's exactly it. We want to be one of the first clubs a top agent/player calls when they want a move - not the club that finds out that someone was available after the contract gets signed with someone else.

I don't think these stories have made anyone think "wow, United really have a lot of pull". We'd need to actually secure them for that to be the case.

If anything being repeatedly linked to superstars we end up not signing makes us look weaker, not stronger.

It's like the old "we're making these impossible bids just to keep the fans happy" argument we used to see here a few years ago. The last thing those bids did was make the fans happy.

Precisely... And to be fair we probably did ask Barca about Neymar. Woodward called up and it went like this:

EW: So uhh it's me... You know the one who cocked up the Pedro deal. Just wondering about this messi guy. Any chance?

Barca: For real? No not at any price.

EW: Ooh OK... You know you guys are making me look bad to the boss. What about Neymar?

Barca: Yeah of course...

EW: Oh wow thank you. OK let's start talking figures.

Barca: Still haven't got to grips with sarcasm then Ed?

EW: Well I was after Neymar but is he any good?

Barca: Never mind... Speak next week when you decide you want Suarez.

Come on lads, where's the faith? Barca have let better players than Neymar go from their club after a few seasons(Ronaldo, Romario, Maradona). Plus brazilians love their paper. Look at Silva refusing to take a pay cut to play for the mighty Barca and instead stayed at PSG. For Brazilians the national team is matters far more than the clubs they play for.
Put down 500K a week and I promise you he'll be shopping for the finest fur coats and best umbrellas around.

Valencia interested in Cherisev

Lucas Silva could go on loan to Olympique

Umm... I think the circumstances were a little bit different? Messi isn't getting any younger and I think Neymar is seen as his long term replacement. There is no way they'd sell and there's no way he'll end up at united. Nice dream though.

.

Not gonna argue on the quality of our signings but the issue that needed solving was our lack of goals and not the defense. Depay has potential but he can't be relied upon yet, it'll be a major slight on our transfer dealings if we don't get an atacker in.

Absolutely agree with you! People seem to think because we want more that we're saying its been a poor summer. It's been a good summer but it could be even better. All the signings really bar Memphis bring about a more solid foundations. What we need is an attacker that can win games on his own. Neymar is that kind of player it's just not going to happen.

If this was the START of the transfer window, Barca hadn't sold Pedro already and they weren't transfer banned until January even then it would just be a ploy from Neymar camp to get more money out of his next contract that he will sign soon. This is why I hate transfer windows so much and also why these awful journalists make any money at all, because some people actually by this sheit they are selling. These rumors might get Neymar get a bigger paycheck and give the magazines some money for all the clicks they get out of this saga... that's the only thing that will happen.

I also want a top attacker in, another runner with speed. I think Mata in particular would be brilliant with Memphis plus another great, quick attacker making runs from deep.

But you know, Rome wasn't built in a day and all that.. I think it might be difficult to get one of those signed this late in the window.

Imaginary dialogues are as funny as 'De Donut' jokes.

Wasn't actually funny

So is Neymar moving?
If United is willing to pay 190m€ then they should try to convince the player. He could accept,he has been 2 years in the shadow of Messi, good wages+a good comission to his father.Anyway he is negotiating with Barsa the renewal and Barsa wants to increase to 250m.The exclusive came from Brazil I think, then maybe he is doing a Ramos

@Randall Flagg You know when I saw that you'd replied to one of my posts I feared the worst. Pretty sure every post of mine so far you've replied to has been too respond negatively. Then I saw the laughs and thought blimey it can't be... And no it wasn't!

It all sounds like BS to me. Those numbers are frightening.
I would love to see Neymar at Utd but not for those sorts of numbers. We need to be chasing more players like Memphis who have a ton of promise and could end up being great players.
Still BS stories like this make you think about what we should actually be doing.

God that was fecking awful

It's shit being linked with players like Neymar.

Never a United type player. That aside, I can't believe some of us are believing this, especially after Ramos.

Next week, we'll be linked with Suarez. With Evra as our transfer negotiator.

On what basis? I agree with everything else in the post.
