Neymar's agent Wagner Ribeiro links Neymar with PSG in an interview in today's edition of L'Equipe.

Seems like the contract negociations with Barca are not going so smoothly.

If he leaves and we don't offer 125 million or more heads need to role.

He is a special player and would be loved here.

This. Within a couple of years, as Ronaldo drops off and Messi starts heading towards the wrong side of 30 he will probably be the best player in the world for a decent stint.

If there is even a sliver of hope that he might leave Barcelona, we should be doing everything possible to get him.

Barca as of this moment simply don't have the money to give him what he wants. Tax authorities in Spain and Brazil are about to take up to €50m from him. Someone has to pay for that.

Why are Barcelona not absolutely loaded?

If we were in a situation where we had a decent team that was just lacking a little something special I'd say go for it. As it is we still need major investment in several positions and breaking the budget on one player who may not even cope with the premier league would be crazy.

Long answer short. They have exceeded their constitutional limit on revenue to wages ratio. Their squad isn't that big so they have little maneuver reducing wages. They also have problems increasing revenue because their sponsors are playing hard ball and their contracts still have time to run.
They also have expensive Camp Naou renovations to pay for.

We were in a situation like that for about 20 years and still did not manage to attract a player like Neymar. People who think we can attract a Neymar if we were good enough are ignoring the fact that his type of player has pretty much never moved to an English club at their peak. There is a reason for that and it has very little to do with the quality of English clubs.

No point in even trying to sign Neymar, Messi, Bale, Lewandowski, Mueller etc unless they state their desire to leave.

Not a hope is he going to France at this stage of his career. Im sure PSG are prepared to buy out a lot of buy out clauses, does not mean it's happening.

I just had a look at PSG wages and they are not as high as a i expected (if the list i saw is correct), most of their players are on 40 - 60k, with the exceptions of Zlatan, Di Maria and Cavani.

That said, i am sure they will double Neymar's wages

Veron, Sanchez, Hazard, Di Maria, Shevchenko, Toure, Aguero, Van Nistelrooy, Van Der Saar.

OK a range of peaks there, but that's a sample of some of the world's best players.

I do see your point though. It's not easy to get the world's best to England.

Spain Vs. England
Better weather
Amazing food
Barcelona has the beach
Barcelona is a beautiful city. London has its pluses, but it's less homely and bad weather means it's harder to enjoy as regularly
Spanish women are generally much hotter and in better shape.
Relative economy is worse off which means better off for footballers in Spain as get more for your money, e.g. property.

England Vs. Spain
More competitive football
Weather is more comfortable for running around in.
More variety of food
Arguably higher worldwide league status if that really matters, although higher twitter and facebook followers generally equals more money!

Bottom line Spain has big advantages that are unlikely to change.

he won't be in paris or manchester next year, he'll be biting a pillow on d-wing for his crimes against tax.

Neymar and his agent keep playing these games every season!

No way he is going to Ligue 1 yet. If at all. He will join City, Utd or Chelsea before he joins PSG IMO.
Might go and ask Jon_legossip on twitter his opinion on this, no doubt he will say it is happening, and is far more likely to happen than Ibra leaving. Biased sod

Pastore, Aurier, Veratti, Matuidi, Luiz, (Lavessi before China move) all are on 100+, Silva is on 200, as a matter of fact, only Rabiot, from the players that regularly feature in their games, is on 60 or less

PSG - Wages 2015/16 - maybe some figures are inexact but it gives a good idea

Zlatan Ibrahimovic : 16.2 M€

Thiago Silva : 12.6 M€

Blaise Matuidi : 12 M€

David Luiz : 11.4 M€

Angel Di Maria : 10.8 M€

Marco Verratti : 10 M€

Edinson Cavani : 10 M€

Marquinhos : 10 M€

Javier Pastore : 8,5 M€

Ezequiel Lavezzi : 6.5 M€ (he left the club last February)

Thiago Motta : 6.5 M€

Salvatore Sirigu 5 M€

Maxwell : 4.80 M€

Lucas Moura : 3.6 M€

Serge Aurier : 3 M€

Adrien Rabiot : 3 M€

Gregory Van Der Wiel : 3 M€

PSG have been proclaimed as favourites for Ronaldo. Have prepared bids for Messi and now Neymar yet will probably end up with Higuain.
Their links with megastars is more ridiculous than ours. Nobody goes to France to enhance or maintain their personal brand. Their career will amount to 'WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE NEYMAR'S GOAL FOR PSG V LILLE' clickbait gifs on Facebook since nobody will watch their domestic fixtures.

Matuidi is good but them wages are insane.
His wages are usually reported as €9M, 12M was only one year with a sign on fee added.

Marquinhos is also widely reported at €2.5M

Sanchez, Touré and Di Maria were not wanted by their teams. Nistelrooy, Agüero and Hazard were young promising players, far from the monster that us Neymar right now. Van der Sar was playing for Fulham! Shevchenko is a good shout.

It is not only Spain. The best Latin based players are attracted to Mediterranean countries. It used to be Italy and when their clubs lost the financial muscle required, it became Spain and even PSG are getting those players now. As you rightly point out, it is a cultural thing that England and Germany simply cannot hope to compete with. The best managers are a different question. They love control and England offer them more control over their team than anywhere else but the best players are looking for the lifestyle just as much as the football and Italy, Spain, France are simply more attractive to a Latin/Mediterranean based player. That is why I can't see us, City, Chelsea or anyone really getting a Neymar or Ronaldo at their peak regardless of our level.

Those figures are after tax
Wages in France are either expressed "gross" or "net" depending if social security, unemployment insurance and retirement contributions are included, but "net" still doesn't account for income tax, that depends on many factors.

From experience journalists often get numbers that hold some truth but can't be relied on if they are gross, net, including or excluding bonus... The numbers for all players usually come from various sources so represent different realities and thus are likely inconsistent with one another.

I can see that happening. It's just mental enough to involve PSG. We won't try to seriously buy him and, let's face it, he'd be nuts to want to come anyway :/

Right now, we are not good enough for top players. 5th-6th place just doesn't cut it and I don't think any sane person would disagree with this.
But, you must remember that MUFC can pay the biggest wages and biggest transfer fees. 10 years ago, we were on par (wage-wise) with other big clubs. Now, we can pay significantly more.
In fact many clubs in the EPL will be able to pay big transfer fees and wages, which would dwarf most EU clubs.

Other factors may be related to glamour, culture and weather.
London clubs can offer the glamour, but not necessarily the status.
A club like PSG or Madrid will offer the glamour, nice weather and big wages.
And PSG in particular, can almost guarantee trophies to incoming players. And they play great attacking football, which is exciting for incoming players.

MCFC - with Pep there + big wages - top players may want to join.
Chelsea - with Conte incoming and big wages on offer, they could attract some big players.

The remaining EPL clubs - I don't think they can attract Galactico class players.
