Neymar Jr | PSG | 2017/2018 performances

Dembélé is the best possible option to try to replace Neymar, but the latter provides a kind of magic (Freddie Mercury) and is made to win the Ballon d'or soon or later: crazy stats

- 55 goals in 77 games with Brazil: now the 4th best scorer of the selecao behind Pelé, Romario and Ronaldo >> he is 25 and could become the top scorer in the history of the Brazil team by the end of his career

- Barcelona: 109 goals + 59 assists in 186 games

Stats speak for himself

He's a top player, top 3 in the world when on form, but I'm not so sure he's deadset for the Ballon D'or. I'd say Messi and Ronaldo are still comfortably better than him and neither seem to be slowing down anytime soon. By the time they do, the next generation could be on the up, overtaking Neymar. Especially given Brazilian's don't exactly have the best history with staying at the top.

The Ballon D'or these days seems to be about who wins the CL and scores a lot of goals doing it. Madrid still look the team to beat.

did no one at the pc asked him how it feels to earn so much money while normal people get less and less? and how anyone could justify 222€ million pounds for a football player? guess no one had the balls for it?

Don't think football is for you. Go watch rugby.

As you know, Messi (30), Cr7 (32) and L. Suarez (30) are older: Neymar is 25.

The only challengers to be Ballon D'or are potentially Mbappé and Dembélé in the next 5 years. Who else? Griezmann?

I'm sure Neymar will win the Ballon d'or one day.

Of course, but Ronaldo seems to be getting fitter every season  and Messi is still Messi. Who else? I'm not sure, I can't predict who will be a rival to Neymar for the Ballon D'or. Could be Mbappe and Dembele or a complete random who's on the up, who knows.

Like I said, I can see him winning it, but I wouldn't be completely sure he will. He needs to win the CL and do so by playing a big part, which seems to be the requirements for the Ballon D'or these days.

Liking football doesn't mean you automatically endorse absolutely every facet of it. Absurd money is part and parcel of the game now but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be questioning it.

He has a release clause, so he could join United next year

Bet an awful lot of them thought that. Football is a parallel universe.

True but most of us are also consumers that spend money (TV channels, stadiums, newspapers, shirts...) and contribute to the development of the circus in a certain sense...

Why would anyone ask him that, when youth players earn more money in a week than researchers or nurses in a month?

It's absolutely irrelevant what others earn.
Sports Journalists are generally reporting on richer people so why dodge a question now.
Someone should have asked him what he thinks of the fee and his salary doubling.
It's a disgrace . An absolute wholesale disgrace

It's relevant since the poster compared it to other people.

It's interesting that even though Neymar is just 25 it feels like he's been in football for so long now. Dude was already a hype 8 years ago. His YouTube videos of his time at Santos already had millions of views.

Or that designers or advertising creatives also earn a lot more than they should. Way too much more, it's ridiculous actually.

Unfortunately, the world is skewed and the finances follow suit.

These type of transfers don't change global economics in general, they're rather reflective of the status quo.

It should still be questioned though. That's one of my criteria for good journalism. It should try to include the broader picture in a relevant way, whenever possible.

It's actually not an interesting question at all in that context. These people earn that much because you and I watch and buy what they do and millions(billions) of people do the same, it's simply a question of volume. Mayweather is going to earn hundreds of millions at the end of the month for the same reason and Steph Curry got a 5 years 201m$ contract for the same reason. These athletes allow other people to make billions and they are rewarded for it.

Guys like Kroenke and the Glazers should be asked those questions not Neymar.

Exactly, but we already know why and we already know that they don't care about "normal people".

Was on an american forum and a poster said "Neymar should've gone to United" and someone else replied "yeah......play with Verratti or go play with Matic, tough choice" and it made me chuckle real hard

My original post didn't make it sound like nothing but "i'm glad he's looking after his economic interests, clubs to the same, players have short careers that can end at any moment with a bad injury. get your money breh".

So I was right then? you were projecting your life/how you live/would live onto Neymar and extrapolating he's set for life? comical

Though its true money isn't an equal motivator to all, your last assertion was pulled straight out of your ass, and i don't really like entertaining "observation: clouds, conclusion: dinosaur" type of arguments, which you have already done twice so yeah, adios
Of course Money isn't an equal motivator to all and I'm entitled to dislike players like Neymar who are motivated simply by money and post a comment on a forum.

How many people here are really watching the french league? Imo the day is too short to do that.

It's up to people in general to stop supporting the madness.

They won't win a CL even with him. They're not good enough overall to overtake the premier sides in Europe.

This PSG side is better than the athletico Madrid side that got to two finals. They'll win it within 3 years IMO

What's this got to do with anything? this is how this conversation went:

me: good on neymar to look after his economic interests
you: you do know that he's set for life
me:  are you projecting your life/lifestyle onto neymar and coming out with he's set for life?
you: to me 300k is...if something something, they would sign messi
me: ah, so I was right then you were projecting on to neymar. and that last assertion you pulled out of your ass
you: I'm entitled to not like players like neymar and post a comment on a forum
me: :confused::confused:

On another note, it's funny that people equate Neymar moving to PSG with "him being only motivated by money", the guy is going to a very strong team where he'll be main man and has a good chance at doing well in the CL. Yeah, I get the league is not as popular as La Liga and sure the money's good but it's not like he's going to China. How does staying at Barca show more ambition/that he's motivated by more than money? Barca are a team that's stacked attacking wise and has arguably the greatest player of all time, Messi, a player that still has a few years at the top, Neymar is ditching his sidekick role to go lead a team and compete against them for the most coveted club football trophy, if he succeeds he'll probably be crowned best player in the world rather than staying under Messi's shadow, that is good for the sport, well the champions league at least. like for example, in the NBA Kevin Durant was ridiculed for his lack of competitive spirit after joining a stacked Golden State team for what many considered a "guaranteed ring", Neymar's move is the opposite of that, he's moving from the stacked team to somewhere else. He's accomplished everything as part of Messi's supporting cast. Like I said, I think he's doing well in looking after his economic interests and I think the money was a major motivation, but people are going overboard with this "only motivated by money" thing, he could have gone to China for more (I think both him and PSG implied as much), and, all things considered, I just don't see how staying at Barcelona has suddenly become the display of ambition people are making it out to be.

Maybe I didn't hear it properly but Neymar apparently sold for 2m€ of kits.

True. The issue is PSG will have a limited % of the money: between 15% and 30% probably.

More than 20,000 shirts sold

Some people are actually from France...
Other than that if you're a Neymar fan catching a PSG game isn't too much trouble. Personally I try and catch the bigger games if I'm not busy

Don't get people crying about his salary, the guy puts bums on seats and gets millions tuning in on TV, its right that he earns from that, what about all the others (mainly corporations) who also earn from his status? No one is complaining about that at all. If you don't like it stop paying for your subscriptions and tuning in, buying merchandise etc etc. Thats the real reason why he is earning so much

Thing is let's think it this way. If you're a programmer, you see everyone is buying a certain tablet, then you're gonna try to get associated/licensed to develop apps on that tablet. Which means the company producing that tablet take in some cash with your development, then when they earn some more from the sale of your app.

So try put that into this case. Shirt sale wouldn't make much, but the exposure to PSG & Neymar brand would mean PSG would eventually bringing more sponsors & demanding more on the renewal period of current sponsor deals.

The league champions couldn't fill half their stadium on an average match day. Not indicative of viewing habits throughout France as we all know Monaco is an odd place but still interesting.

Nothing has changed for Neymar. He will still play alongside an Argentine winger and a Uruguayan striker. Shittier versions of course
