Neymar joins PSG on a five year deal

Do you even check your facts before posting? Between 2007/8 and 2016/17 Man Utd have won 4 league titles to City's 2. We have won the UCL they have not.
If you had said the last 4 years you might of had a point about them being better but that is not down to the money they can spend but the fact that we lost a very influential manager and made a couple of bad choices with his replacement.

If you take the last 6 seasons, City had better results in EPL and in Europe as well. Pretty sure it checks out.

PSG doesn't hold a candle to United when it comes to history, global profile, and commercial possibilities. If he really wanted to put himself in the spotlight, then United would be a far superior destination. Even from a sporting perspective, if he could have been the player to return United to the pinnacle of the sport, it would elevate him as a ballon d'or candidate. At PSG, he'll be viewed as a mercenary who went to a sub-part league in his prime. I'm sorry, but the only reason he's leaving is for piles and piles of cash.

He doesn't care about history. That means little to a player that wants the best from their career. United's credibility in those terms made a difference when we were still at the top of game. As things stand, he'll enjoy being a part of that team more than ours, I imagine.

Imagine if neymar used that Quatari money to buy out his contract then joined Utd for free. Now that would be funny

Perhaps this deal will get La Liga to rethink having release clauses in all contracts. EPL doesn't mandate release clauses, or France, Germany, etc.

Got to hand it to PSG. From getting thumped 6-1 and being bullied over Verratti, they have brought Barca down on their knees, whining to UEFA and La Liga like a kid that had its' candy swiped. Instead of being one of the most historic wins for Barca, now nobody is gonna remember Remontada anymore.

This is precisely what a guilty person would say.

Barcelona initiated this by trying to unsettle Verratti. It's hilarious that PSG snubbed them of that and then took their second best player in a few weeks. Barca have been cnuts to other clubs for years, about time they got their medicine. "Guilty" or not, who cares. It's comeuppance I wanted to see. Plus they're using oil money, why does it matter if it's used on one superstar player vs. a bunch of them (like City does)?

I am so torn about this.

One part of me loves the salt from Barca, and it serves them right for years of tapping up other teams players, but the other side of me fears that if this goes through without any ramifications for PSG we'll see them and City absolutely taking the piss in the transfer market for years to come.

No white text? It's clearly shady what they're doing, even if it is funny.
If it's shady, then UEFA will investigate and punish the parties if needed.
Is there any reason or precedent of UEFA stopping the deal beforehand?

If Barca can use the money to strengthen the team as a whole I don't think they'll be too fussed about losing Neymar.

Therein lies the problem.

It's a conundrum alright.

I hope he knows, he will not leave PSG easily.

PSG never sell their best players, so if he signs a 5 year contract he is there til he is 30.

I think the idea of a free market is a bit of a joke at this stage and I'm surprised you're not more cynical of it having worked in marketing for so long, given the explicit goal of advertising is to undermine one of the fundamental principles of a market economy (informed consumers).

Ignoring that, Man City should be allowed to value their own media property based on a set of agreed basic valuation methods. The reason the price of sponsorship is going up is because there aren't any agreed valuation methods and, as a result, sports sponsorship is mostly a sham with people paying money for things they don't understand.

Having worked within it I find it very hard to believe you don't feel the same way. All stakeholders admit they don't have any useful evidence of the value of sponsorship beyond cheap advertising, yet all stakeholders agree that the aim of the sponsorship is to achieve much broader objectives. Removing that logical fallacy from the decision-making process would only ever drive the price down. The reason it doesn't happen is because sports rightsholders know it would mean they get less money.
I agree with everything you say. But you are looking at it from a 'fairness' pov as opposed to a market forces pov.

QATER INC value the sponsorship of Manchester City differently to AN Other company.

Let's say your evaluation method values the sponsorship value at £10m. What happens when there are more than one interested party? The price goes up. Likewise the value to an established corporation will be less than a newer entity seeking to make a name for themselves.

Of course it's a cash flow sham with sugar daddies washing money into the clubs bank accounts. But I don't think your suggestion would work.

I'm very aware of the valuation methods you talk about and they are critical for a bidder to understand as part of a negotiation strategy. But after that, market forces take over.

Why is it fair that Manchester United paid £90 for Pogba and in doing do inflated the entire premium transfer market? Same principle applies

I agree with you though that of all the media inventory, sponsorship remains the least quantifiable with many execs not understanding how it works and how to maximise it. Despite being an easily targetable Manchester United fan, I've never been approached through other media by AIG, AON, Chevrolet or any of our other many sponsors.

Didn't Barca feck over Santos?

Can't see there being much sympathy for Barca here, they are getting a huge amount for a player that doesn't appear to want to be there.

I'm struggling to understand why Barcelona would even want Neymar to stay after his head has clearly been turned (and for a while going by the last couple of years).

They get a stupidly large fee for him and they can move on. He's never been Messi's level so it's not even like when United lost Ronaldo all those years ago.

The bitterness is a bit confusing to me.

Great news. Why should the same tired two clubs hog all the best players. I hope Neymar scores a hattrick in the Cl final against Barca and wins the golden ball.

Yup respect to the Qataris. They played this poker game beautifully. On a side note, I hope being able to trigger release clauses are included in FIFA 18

What does 'disciplinary responsibility' mean?

On what grounds have la liga refused the payment?

Barca is pissed because they are used to tapping up players and getting their own way.
They tried with Verratti and PSG threw it right back in their face and took their 2nd best player.

Barca better relax before PSG activates Suarez's release clause next

Yeah I have to agree, it can only be a form of pettiness and frankly, immaturity regarding the matter.

It does seem like they're mortally offended that another club even dared to take one of their star players.

I literally have no clue what da fuq is going on here. Will this or will this not be a £200m transfer? Or just a load of rich people playing games in the football world.
