Is this really confirmed? I'm still having difficulty believing we were willing to shell out so much money.

Mourinho recent interview saying its not a lot of money gives me the impression, neymar also said that he was close to signing for us last year so we were willing to trigger the clause then.

Not sure we would pay the same wages mind.

We were heavily linked to neymar at one point last season but nobody paid attention to that because it sounded ridiculous. However, I do think that we were interested and willing to pay the buyout fee but were put off by Neymar's wage demands because we could afford to sign him if he was a normal signing who was moving for footballing reasons(being the main man/ figurehead of Man Utd) etc. and was willing to accept "just" 10-20% rise on his Barca contract.

really? so what kind of players do you want? Hard working local lads? The best players in the world are never going to be die hard United fans or English players and I would prefer United to return to the upper echelons of football

Its not about The profile of the player But about the character of them, albeit a great engine, Strength, steel, grit are some of the attributes which also is more united esque. The Ronaldo's, Zlatan's Herrera's type of charecters are better suited to United Players. I just dont find Neymar and United would be a suitable match, He will act like he's bigger than the club and the manager Which does not go down well in united dressing room and against our principles.

And this kind of English mentality that has become is baffling. With all the resorces available in england and the strongest league on the planet in terms of financial stability Having this kind of mentality is a disgrace.

To reach the upper echlons to football you need the best team with a strong philosophy and not necessarily the best players or dummy best players in all positions.

The knock on effects of this transfer could make this the most memorable transfer window yet.

SSN Reporting : BREAKING NEWS

La Liga have this morning refused to accept an attempt by PSG and Neymar lawyers to pay the Brazilian’s release clause.

About five lawyers arrived at La Liga HQ near Madrid airport this morning.

However, they left after only 15 minutes.

Yesterday, La Liga told Sky Sports News they would not accept the payment from PSG to trigger Neymar’s release clause.

A spokesman for the office of La Liga president Javier Tebas said: "We will not accept the money for the liberation clause, the reason is that we have doubts that this money is in accordance with UEFA Financial Fair Play rules."

Wow. A proper transfer saga is ensuing then.:D

That's funny. Might be worth getting the popcorn ready. Whatever people's opinions are on this deal, no-one can say it doesn't make entertaining viewing!

Sucks for Barcelona. Only player they can realistically get of Neymar's caliber is Griezman and he isn't leaving. What a terribly run club.

Are PSG fans tracking flights etc now..

How can they legally refuse? This seems unbelievable. What's the point of having a release clause if the league can just say no sorry

I'm all for PSG and their like being told to feck off.

That said, you can't help but be a little curious at how they plan to unveil him!

Legally la liga have no leg to stand on. Clauses are for players to leave the club and simultaneously ensuring Club gets value for asset. Both these obligations are being fulfilled. It is posturing to please their fans.
FFP is not a regulatory body, it is set of rules, if you break them, you are punished. PSG havent broken any rules, they can easily sell players worth 100 million and accounts will be better. La liga cannot claim any basis to refuse the clause. It is stupid and childish what they are doing. FIFA will intervene and the transfer will go through no matter what.
FFP/UEFA cannot stop a transfer just punish on the basis of FFP rules being broken, pretty sure PSg la liga and everyone involved are knowledgeable.

Jesus La Liga are really a pack of bitter cnuts. Madrid and Barca have signed who they wanted for years and no mention.

If they refuse PSG cause they're unfairly "state backed" and there is no returning for Neymar here after all this. Would they refuse a bit from us? We can afford it.

Wonder what their argument would have been if United had triggered the clause. Unfair commercial deals?

"A few years ago £25m was a phenomenal player. Today, £25m is not even a player, it is a prospect of a player. Now if you want to buy a good prospect, a good 20-year-old player who can be fantastic, you are paying as if the player is already a big player.

"I think the next summer can bring a few surprises at this level and probably Paul will lose his status as the world's most expensive player, which is probably a good thing."

Great insight by the boss.

I'm enjoying this drama very much. La Liga are being vain and petty here though. They should let the transfer go and then lobby UEFA to reign in City and PSG going forward. Campaign for a prohibition of state sponsorship, cut the snake off at the head.

Didn't Liverpool refuse the Arsenal offer for Suarez? They triggered his release clause?

Triggering a release clause is one thing but remember that the player has to agree to the move as well. I don't know what happened with Suarez but I'm guessing Liverpool persuaded him to stay.

I believe half of their revenue is from spobsorship deals. Incredibly disproportionate to other clubs.

Sham sponsorships through the owners.

City's revenues are actually legit and would be the same without their owners.

Their transfer spending obviously wouldn't though.
Still masquerading as a United fan, then?

A lot people saying lessons will be learned in that clubs will put even higher release clauses in players' contracts, but personally I think it will make players more wary of having outrageous clauses.

PSG won 4/5 titles since 2012-13
Bayern won 5/5 titles since 2012-13
Juve won 6/6 titles since 2011-12
I never said the Bundesliga was exciting. Italy is a fairer point although you never quit know which of the sides is going to dominate at the start of the season and Roma and Napoli (in itself a surprise) were in the running almost till the end of the season

Didn't Liverpool refuse the Arsenal offer for Suarez? They triggered his release clause?
According to some Liverpool fans, apparently the £40m+ bid would only allow the player to talk to other CL clubs, but not necessarily sign for the club, as the 2 clubs would still need to agree a fee.

Ok, perhaps there is still time for Mr Woodward to hijack Neymar? Clearly Man UTd monies won't be considered "illegal" by La Liga - just match the contract and Neymar is here :)

but personally I think it will make players more wary of having outrageous clauses.

I think it may make some players think twice about going to Spain in general. If a clause can be triggered and then the league can decide to say no, that would make me think twice.

Cant post the tweets as they are protected so copying them. This is gregory Ionadis, sports lawyer and has been on sky sports and is involved in various drugs/cas cases.

FFPRs' jurisprudence clearly states that third parties are also part of the equation and liability cannot be excluded for breaches. #CAS

Before you conclude that a club's transfer activity breaches FFPRs you must first look at the evidence. It is a fact based exercise.

BBC reporting at noon: (not sure how it works, isn't it just up to the club and not the league, if not can we veto every signing City and Chelsea make from here on in?:lol:

La Liga has rejected an attempt by lawyers for Barcelona forward Neymar to pay his buyout clause of 222m euros (£198m).

The Brazilian, 25, is expected to sign for Paris St-Germain for a world record fee, after telling Barcelona he wanted to leave the club on Wednesday.

Spanish media say La Liga officials believe PSG are violating Uefa's Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

Can you imagine if they drag this out past the transfer deadline
