Neymar joins PSG on a five year deal

Nothing but hearsay. Unless there's a quote coming directly from the man's mouth himself, it's a load of crap.

In which case it is. Nothing to see here folks, move along...

I believe half of their revenue is from spobsorship deals. Incredibly disproportionate to other clubs.

Sham sponsorships through the owners.

City's revenues are actually legit and would be the same without their owners.

Their transfer spending obviously wouldn't though.

Wtf are you talking about? This a pisstake?

The bottom line is, money talks. There's only one reason why Neymar is leaving Barcelona for PSG. Cash. Really, I can't even blame him. PSG are offering him an insane contract. All the talk about wanting to step out of Messi's shadow is complete nonsense. Had Barcelona offered him a huge raise, Neymar would have stayed. He's leaving for the money. Simple as that.

While most won't agree with the fee (it's a ludicrous investment for any player, let alone the FFP implications), it is a huge statement of intent from PSG. For all of Woodward's talk about United being able to compete financially for any player, there's no way the club would be prepared to pay that much money. If people think we blew Real Madrid out of the water last year with our Pogba bid, then PSG blew us, and everyone else, out of the water this summer.

Yep, can't disagree. We have what? Roughly £230M in cash reserves? We can't spend all of that for Neymar + God knows what kind of stupid money his father is going to ask. We simply can't.

We will need to be even smarter with derivatives products in order to cope with this new business environment but for now, we cannot compete.

Why did Neymar choose Barcelona in the first place if he hated Messi so much?
He doesn't hate Messi per say. It's just life: 1.He was ripe to make a step up away from Brazilian league to big club. Bayern didn't want to spend that amount. The Neymar's ain't stupid enough to risk their career with David Moyes, sot it's between Madrid & Barcelona, which Neymar plays in Ronaldo zone while Neymar may be overshadowed by Messi can be afforded with his own zone on the pitch. 2. Barcelona was bigger force than Madrid when Neymar joined them. A less successful season & they still won La Liga. It's not a wrong move to play second fiddle to earn experience while winning trophies. Madrid 3 CL trophies were unexpected. It took them quite effort to reclaim La Liga title. Now Neymar is old & experienced enough to have his own team. Messi & Ronaldo haven't wind down, Neymar can't wait while not making the most money out of his commercial playing second fiddle to Messi.

No. Those were the reports back then.

Since Real Madrid offered more money as reported, why would Neymar join Barcelona then? He idolized(and probably still does) Messi. Just look back at the reports then.

Madrid offered more money up front but they also take 50% share of their players' sponsorship/image rights revenue. So it's still quite plausible that Neymar joined Barca for the money.

And more importantly, Barcelona pretty much paid the same as info leak in later time showed, but the way they did, more money went into Neymar's family pocket; which was the cause of these tax evasion trial in Brazil & Spain.

I honestly don't understand the negativity towards Neymar, nor the arguments he's leaving for a poor league.

La Liga is a 2 team league, with either Real or Barca winning the league on all but 3 occasions since 2004. Same can be said for the Bundasliga where Bayern have won in 11 times since 2000. So you could easily argue going to the french league is more challenging the leagues aren't as dominated by one or two clubs. And some of the clubs at the lower end of the tables in either league are no worse than that of the french league.

He is living in Messi's shadow, no doubt about that. Good article this morning about was the tipping point when Messi was on the cover of the papers after beating PSG when it was Neymar who stole the show? Maybe he wants out and get the recognition he deserves from the club that employs him. Simple.

Lastly - most on here would struggle to turn a blind eye to £55m p/y no matter what you're on, specially when the club you're joining is closer and closer to getting that CL title. Get to live in a beautiful city (if you Paris that is) etc.

Good luck to him, simple as.

I agree that it's nothing about Messi. The psychology of it doesn't make sense, with Neymar knowing that Messi is in the dusk of his career whereas he'll soon becoming into his prime. As a top player, you also want to play with the best players on your team.

Couldn't it have something to do with recent tax investigations in Spain. Everyone knows the transfer was dodgy, wouldn't surprise me if his salary is to, and both club and player know it's best to part ways now.

It's money. I was reading about it today and if his dad can get hold of the £30m loyalty bonus he is 'owed' as a result of last year's contract extension, then his dad would have earned more money from Barca than Messi.

That's the brass tax - Neymar is going to be getting paid a shit ton of money, his dad is going to get a shit ton of money.

At least this time Neymar is leaving though main door without buying club making any dodgy payments and fecking the selling club.

I love when people are so sure of their opinion they state it as absolute truth.

No one here knows why he's left, its probably a mixture of all the above im not sure why its being argued as a sole reason. This transfer will indirectly affect us in the future and thats what we need to worry about.

I can kind of see the appeal of PSG. Aside from it being a better city than the other offers. All going well, he can be part of something big there. Ok, the league isn't particularly good, but they should be serious CL contenders. He could end up a bit of a club legend.
Again, all going well, they can only get bigger as well. Playing as part of that team is going to be really attractive to others now.

Even if we believe the buyout clause thing with Neymar, no way would we pay the wages and other bonuses Psg are paying.

Only really City could afford that outlay other than them and City might be more constrained by stricter Ffp rules in Pl and they do seem to actually have a budget.

When I was checking his tweets, Twitter recommended these accounts to follow. Twitter knows.

This must be the most cringe inducing transfer since... Figo to Real?
I don't know which makes the bile rise faster, the fee or the wages.

He drops off the radar commercially though except when he is playing in the Class or for Brazil. Guess the money is enough to compensate and more though.

Will he be on par with Messi and Ronaldo when it comes to wages at PSG?

It is tough to tell with these reported figures but Ronaldo seems to earn about 400k a week at real while Neymar reported salary after tax is 550k a week at Psg plus many other bonuses.

Only really Tevez in China at reported 615k a week compares though don't know whether that's pre or post tax.

But if those reported figures of bonuses, rights and wages are true then Neymar would comfortably become the best paid athelete in any sports in the world probably.
