Neymar joins PSG on a five year deal

I doubt Nike had much involvement in making this decision at all. The role of sponsors is always overplayed.

It's more Neymar and his father understanding what his true potential is. Follow the opportunity in football, there usually is money near by...Nike, Neymar, PSG, Brazil, etc align. For global superstars and global clubs like PSG, United, Chelsea, Barca, etc., try telling them sponsors are overstated...they'll laugh at you.

Is it his dad who gets the loyalty clause?
But 25m seems out of all proportion if Neymar makes 15m per year or whatever.
No the dad is his agent.
Famously Neymar's transfer from Santos was filled with mystery commissions, clauses and tax avoidance measures. So it's not like Barsa didn't know what kind of character they were dealing with

I'm pretty sure Nike are happy to sponsor Neymar wherever he goes in Europe as long as he maintains a high profile. Barca, PSG, England, wherever doesn't matter.

Think about how Barcelona got him in the first place. Barcelona fans can try to be all righteous but the reality is that they paid him and his father like no other player has been ever paid, they know exactly why he is playing for them and not for Santos or Real Madrid.

Pretty much.

Probably the most overrated footballer around. Tax dodging little creep who spends most of his time falling down.

They've probably paid more for his dad than we've paid for Pogba.

If Barca manage to receive 220 Mio for Neymar that would be some fantastic business from their side.
I cannot believe any club would be willing to pay that kind of amount for him.
Would be even more stupid than selling Bale and paying 180 Mio for a teeny sensation.

There's no business being done from Barca's side. There's just a release clause being activated. Barca have no say in it. Even so, getting €222m for losing the world's 3rd best player isn't all that great if it is true as Mino Raiola said, that Barca paid 80m for him and another 80m as a penalty.

How is it good business? What good is money in the bank when you lose that level of quality? If he goes on to waste his talent and fail to fulfil his potential, then definitely good business. But we are talking here about a potential game changer with maybe 2 or 3 others in world football of the same quality. Barcelona can buy all the midfielders and defenders in the world and it still wouldn't make up for losing his, especially if/when Messi stops being the influence he is today.

And they can improve other parts of their squad without selling Neymar.

No idea about their finances to be honest. There is a lot of noise about how they are struggling with wages and so on. It doesn't matter anyway since selling Neymar is not up to them.

Why do our fans do this to themselves?

Guys, we are not buying Veratti, Bale, Neymar, Messi, Ronaldo, Nainggolan, Gaitan, Schneijder, Greizmann or any other Galactico class player.
This Summer, we are in for Perisic and Matic and we are making an absolute meal out of those deals due to the costs involved. Even those deals may not happen.

Will PSG get Neymar?
It really is anybody's guess right now. He is currently training (normally), with Barca and there appears to be no indication that he is leaving Barca.
On the flip side, PSG are not giving up on the Neymar deal and papers keep reporting that a deal is being discussed.
Thank you for your thoughts

It's PSG. To put it into perspective, last summer Matuidi was desperate to go to juve. So Raiola went to PSG, started throwing chairs around, and PSG told him, deadpan "the player stays here. Here's a new contract he can sign. If he doesn't, he'll still be here but on less money. Your choice". "Oh, and we're taking the cost of those chairs out of your commission, by the way. Good bye Mino"

They have to raise 110 million in player sales. Maybe they put him for sale, maybe they don't - the situation is very different from last year

Gerard Piqué: "I don't think it's about the money."

Neymar wanted to leave Barca for a while and PSG was a good escape plan. Of course money helps.

It's amazing that the Spanish duo managed to ingrain into fans that you can't be unhappy when you play for them. In fact most forwards playing recently for Barca have either left at first opportunity or been kicked.

Of course he isn't going to say his friends is driven by money. It of course that is what this is.

When did PSG become a global club?

Sure, there phony sponsorship deals have put them in the top 10 for revenues but they hardly fall into the category of global club in the way the three others you mentioned are.

Barca should cash in.... unfortunately, they might go for Griezmann as a replacement.

Unfortunately, that seems a big possibility.

I am not sure United are gonna get a top 10 attacker in the next five years even. It's been so long already since we had one.

Marca saying Griezmann is a possible replacement.

I thought we'd get him next year but it looks a big possibility that Barca would go for him.

Says RMC

They won't sell Verratti anyways though. They have plenty of players they can sell

Was his move to Italy because of a buyout clause?

I guess they are going for a Hatrick then.
Of course. Why would anyone willingly sell Ronaldo in '97

1. Every great professional has advisors.
2. Neymar isn't my brother OR FRIEND so I can't say that he is martyred by his father. Also, journalists need to develop a storyline, ideally based on... non-verifiable facts.
3. I believe he has the right to agree with his father.

When a lot of them from different media outlets say the same thing, they tend to be right most of the time and I'm someone who really don't like journalists. Not saying he's martyred by his father either :wenger:, his father manages every aspect of his professional life and he is fine with it otherwise none of this would happen.

It doesn't prove any of those things, even though I don't doubt both affirmations. If waiting a week or two grants you 25m, you simply wait, that's the smart thing to do. Also all clubs have those clauses, last summer Ibrahimovic waited for the end of his contract before signing with United because it would allow him to pocket several millions.
Yes it's the cost of doing business and signing these big profile players.

They're getting him, don't doubt that. Otherwise a denial or a contract extension would have happened a long time. Tbh it can still feck up in some way but he's definitely leaving.

Balon d' or winner at the time.

Barca don't seem to be a very well run club imo.
The whole thing was a farce. Ronaldo was happy and wanted to stay. Barcelona offered him a crazy 10 year contract which he agreed to. Then when Ronaldo and his agents went to sign the contract Nunez(president) told them they never had made that offer and tried to low ball him. Agents got on the phone with Moratti(who had previously contacted them to ask about Ronnie) who immediately agreed to give him whatever he wanted. Deal done, Moratti got in contact with Nunez to see if a deal could be agreed. When Barca said no, Moratti paid the release clause. The following day Nunez went to the media to cry about how Italian clubs were just too rich and they couldn't compete :lol::lol:

Reading this and the conversations in the Perisic thread the other day,Italian football sounds like it was rather fascinating. Especially Inter.

As for Barca, you have to fear for them.once Messi is gone, unless they hit a similar stroke of luck, they will be in for a rather tough time.

The dark days of the early 2000s might be on their way again.

I'd play for PSG before Barca though then again I'd play for Finn Harps rather than Barca

Hypocritical self righeous crying cheating cvntstain of a club .
