Next PM | #NoMoBoJo | Still hanging around like a bad smell

I think the Tories will ultimately destroy themselves. We'll get some total bellend for PM in the short-term, but this bullish over confidence means they're not even being subtle in screwing the country over. The public will only take so much before they tell them all to feck off.

Sadly we have another two years of damage to suffer.

Yeah, which doesn't really help as if the Tories do damage themselves and the country so much that Labour get in, you'll have a situation where Labour are fecked because they're trying to salvage the nation in an impossible situation leading to the public hating them and wanting the Tories back. :o

You underestimate the stranglehold the Tory press has on the country. They’ll paint Boris as a bad apple that’s gone now and be given a fresh start.

I don't know, the country has already suffered a lot of damage, as has the Tory party itself. And the full brunt of Brexit is yet to rear itself. If Labour took over tomorrow they would probably be in the shit, but another two years of this and there's nowhere for the Tories to point the finger.

True. But all the propaganda in the world surely isn't going to change the fact that the electorate has higher bills, less money, and less support.

This leadership race is crying out for some @Striker10 commentary. Wonder if he's on any other social media platform?

Imagine being so bad you have to be endorsed by the village idiot and some guy who lives in the Victoria era.

Also Truss campaigned for Remain.

Surely Labour must be hoping that Truss wins. The easiest candidate to outwit. Plus the world is looking forward to all the comedy episodes.

Only danger is that she either deliberately or inadvertently starts WW3.

Bring back Boris Johnson. I am reading some of the things Badenoch has said.
We need help.

Kemi Bad Enoch?

Go on then, post some other things for us. That nonsense about investing in net zero being bad for the economy above sounds like an Iraq war era talking point.

MPs representing the Mordaunt and Sunak campaigns on Newsnight seemed to not guarantee net zero policy.

I'm fairly confident that might play to their party members but the country isn't that stupid to believe this shite....hopefully.

While Sunak will surely get to the final 2, if it’s him vs. Truss surely she’d in pole position.l to win, largely thanks to members that were still loyal and supportive towards Johnson backing her, and wanting to take revenge against the ‘disloyal’ Sunak. That includes Rees-Mogg and Dorries of course. There seems to be an ‘anyone but Sunak’ (or Hunt but he has no chance) campaign building.

It was like how for a period, Tory members egged on by Thatcher were desperate to stop Ken Clarke from winning leadership contests, and would vote for whoever his opponent was.

Agree with you on that. Truss is instantly forgettable.
But the betting is firmly on Sunak.
However, they are not called the Nasty Party for nothing.
And as we are learning, there are deep divisions within and a lot of back stabbing going on.
And I am hopeful of a full scale civil war at the very time that the public are looking for leadership through the cost of living crisis.
Bring it on.

Firstly I stress that in my own personal opinion I don't care about the gender, ethnicity etc. of politicians, but instead their competence, beliefs, vision and policy platform, voting record, ethics, behaviour etc. The first female PM Thatcher had a more regressive view of women's rights than many men, and it was said that she broke the glass ceiling but then pulled up the ladder behind her.

However if Sunak does become leader and PM, then I think some supporters within the Tory MP will be chomping at the bit to highlight that how after already electing 2 female leaders to Labour's 0, they have also 'won the race' to elect an ethnic minority leader as well. I can see a Tory attack line that Labour are obsessed with identity politics (I stress again their words not mine), but have only ever elected white men as leaders. If they really wanted to double down, they could probably highlight that Dianne Abbott from 2016-2019 and David Lammy from November 2021 onwards are the only ethnic minority MPs to hold one of the top 4 jobs in a Labour cabinet or shadow cabinet (I think).

It's just wondering how a nasty Tory party, desperate to make up ground in the polls and capitalise on a 'new leader bounce', could seek to attack Labour, that's all.

I saw something yesterday about Sunak not being popular with members and this poll seems to back that up as it suggests he'd lose to everyone except Zahawi.

Tories are cockroaches, they'll survive anything

Yes there will be a lot of Tory MPs crowing that if you are a woman or not white, you can make it in British society on merit alone.

The thing is, that is nonsense. Theresa May did loads of work as Tory Party Chairperson after the 2001 election, where 37 of 38 new Tory MPs elected were white men. If you were a promising black, Asian or female Tory member, you could be parachuted into safe seats, like Suella Braverman, Kemi Badenoch and Priti Patel were.

But, you know, that inconvenient fact gets ignored.

Total cesspool.

Probably Tugendhat is the best of a very bad and ominous bunch. Sunak probably the only other one who isn't totally insane.

Anyone involved in partygate should have been disqualified for starters.

Good point.
Tories always despise their leader eventually and cannot wait to stab them in the back.
But they are busy stabbing eachother in the back and haven't even been elected yet.
What a snakepit.

I can just see it now.
Whoever gets elected. And the opinion polls are still showing Labour to be in the lead.
They will be bemoaning getting rid of Boris and wish he was in charge again.

Think if they wanted the votes, they'd unite behind Badenoch (who has momentum) and not Truss.

Think that's the best chance for the right of the party... get one of them against sunak in the final two

If mordaunt makes the final two she wins I think... suspect she will pick up some hunt supporters... tugendhats as well when he inevitably falls... perhaps some of zahawis
