I struggle to see how Ten Hag could succeed with the way he wants to play with the likes of Maguire, AWB, Shaw, Fred, McTom, Matic etc. We are going to need a complete overhaul if he is to challenge for titles. He will for certain make Donny a starter but our best hope is that they back him properly to bring in the players he wants.

He is not a miracle maker, he will struggle badly with half the dross we have in this squad. I do not remember the last time our offense was this poor. Rashford is done, so is Martial our future talisman fecked his career, Cavani will leave, Sancho I have hope for and then there's Ronaldo if he stays. So many positions in need of new players any manager would struggle.

Good coaches implement a style which gets more out of the squad. No-one is expecting him to win titles straight away, he will assess which players suit his style and who he can improve, the ones who don't, will be replaced over time.

It was either Pogba or Mourinho. There was no way we could continue with both imo. I don't think Mourinho is or was the solution. We need someone who thinks longterm. Mourinhos ego would have ment we would have continued buying to get instant succes.
If that is a fact, and it may be, I'd choose Jose over Pogba every time. I'd rather have a shot t instant success compared with no chance at all - which is where we are now. Ole's vision for the future turned out to be pipe dream

Unai Emery:) But suppose he isn't hyped nor hipster enough for people who think they play football manager or like to speculate about potential.

He is a good manager, but let's not get carried away. He lost to us twice this season. To us. Twice. This season. To Ole and Carrick.

Still, his decision to remain at Villarreal instead of going to Newcastle was a wise one.

He needs time. Lets judge him in a month. If he doesn't get top 4, then we should get rid

Agree. Why replace a happy life and positive atmosphere in Spain with chaos in Newcastle or United:lol: Life is to short to fight wolves in the cold.

United is a wise move only for managers who has nothing to loose and is desperate to be back in the good company of managers = a great manager who has failed and wants to hit back and prove his greatness. Who could that be:confused:

Were you impressed by his stint at Arsenal?
Managers aren’t wizards. He took a challenge and did ok. I’m also sure managers learn by experience.

He was until he bombed at Arsenal.

Which looks like it wasn’t really his fault as he was having to deal with massive infighting between warring (and allegedly corrupt) factions behind the scenes.

We need a clear out of any coaches that were there under Ole. Ralf and Ten Hags appointments may be similar enough to work together but why keep coaches that have consistantly shown they can't get our players to play.

I'm sure I remember reading all the coaches that have come in under Ralf won't be here after the season ends

You're joking but that is exactly how things will go down here on the CAF.

100%. If we're sat 5-8th by Christmas then he'll be seen as a flop, despite most on here saying they'd be happy with a few years of shit if it means he's rebuilding and it'll be followed by proper success

That's being optimistic, the first will fall after two subpar performances or losses. Chances are a loss in preseason might bring some close to the edge

You say it's based on fan voting but at the same time admit that you don't know Ten Hag? That is some sound logic.
I dont know Ten Haag, but how well do the people making the decisions know Ten Haag, that is my point. Most fans wont have even seen an Ajax match or followed his progress in any great detail - I'll be honest with you I haven't, so why is he the overwhelming choice - social media is your answer I'm afraid. I hope he does really well and he has my full support.

100% - I would suggest they have made almost every other one of their recent decisions has based on Social Media popularity. The commercial side of the club overules the sporting side of the club when push comes to shove. The CR7 signing is a prime example of that - it was a commercial signing at 36-37, not a sporting one. The club has been run terribly for a long time. You really think that Woodward, Arnold, Glazer and co, have the football acumen to make footballing decisions, or they have given anything more than token roles to Murtough/Fletcher who are supposed to be the technical football people in the club, but in reality are finding their way whilst in the jobs - NO they are driven by popular opinion, social media reactions and followers - the problem with that, is most fans know as much as they do, on how to run a football club - it's comical...
I wonder what you would've said if we hired Poch. If the club indeed went by a social media choice, they would've hired Poch or Enrique. Those 2 are far more popular choices. If you've followed posts on CAF you would see that ETH wasn't a fan favourite even back in February. He was an outside choice.

But if you had a look at all the arguments for and against ETH, you'd realise that ETH is the better choice for us? I do not understand how you came to the decision that ETH was the popular choice? Because those who have argued for ETH have actually done their research over the past few weeks.

Just go through this thread and the Ten Haag thread from February. This is just unecccesary negativity.

It's not uneccessary negativity at all, its highlighting the stark reality of where United are as a club, you may wish not to accept that we are run by people that have very little clue on how to run a football club, but it's plain for me to see. The club needs an overhaul from top to bottom starting with the owners, and the people in charge.

I am very happy we're going for Ben Ten now but Ronaldo should have been booted out of the club for this*.

He's here for a few months and we could have potentially missed out on the best option at the time because Ronaldo knew his goose was cooked with Conte in charge.

*Assuming it's true.

The Glazers were eventually more impressed by the CV of Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, and confused by what Mauricio Pochettino had done at PSG.

Not alone.

Still doesn't make any sense. Poch was the social media favourite just a few months ago - and continue to be favourite among media and experts, yet he hasn't been hired. And United don't have a history of choosing the social media favourite anyway or we probably would have seen Arturo Vidal in a player-manager role.

When it comes to EtH, even those who don't regularly follow Ajax, have probably seen his Ajax team in CL and also can point to his reputation as a tactical astute attacking manager. Add to that his very impressive defensive record and the added spice of him working with Pep before and you can paint the picture of a progressive manager on the up and who is perfect for 2022 football rather than a hasbeen. Also reports of him demanding a lot of his players is music to United fans who have been witnessing a bunch of lazy players the last few years.

Regarding the last tweet, I genuinely hope we've wrapped up some of our signings by the tour as well as binned the players on the way out, would be nice to actually have a full preseason with new players and a new manager for once.
Exactly.

A start date of July 1st sounds really really bizarre. Its only 4 weeks before the start of the season.

I think this is true, concerning Poch being the mainstream and social media favourite (although the latter has shifted recently).
If you go on niche forums, you’ll see a more diverse opinion, but if you trawl a wider net you’ll catch more big names and big accounts pushing for Poch since we appointed RR.
The fact we don’t seem to be leaning towards him tells me that the board aren’t just checking which way the wind is blowing and then selecting based on popularity.

Those Utd District tweets make us actually sound like a well run club.... so I struggle to have faith in them!

Hopefully if we can reach agreement with him now, he can create his plan for the summer Market well in agreement eg who is binned/ brought in.

I'd like us to play the youth given this shameful lot of "senior" players have scuppered our top 4 chances - let him get a proper look at them in a more competitive environment so he can see which could be ready to step up and be involved
