Get in. I’m team Luis.
I'd say United ruling out Luis Enrique splitting his time between Spain and United is a blow to those chances. (if the tweet is true)

That for me, was the most realistic option. And not unreasonable given the season is only 3 months long until the WC starts. Not sure why United would be so dismissive of that. 6 months or more, sure. But the WC starts early into the league campaign.

The factors in favour of Poch are stronger imo.
1. Fact the club has always wanted him
Why are people so sure this is a “fact”?

Since Poch burst upon the United psyche with a tsunami of pressing from his Southampton team at OT in 2013, we’ve seen five managers depart. So five opportunities to employ Poch. We haven’t. Why haven’t we, if we’ve “always wanted him”?

Because Poch wasn't wanted as much as Moyes (the chosen one, preferred by sir Alex), Van Gaal, Mou and then Ole? And you know how hard it is to deal with Levy back then when Poch was still Spurs'manager?

On this as well - he’d really only have to put some coaches in place for 6 months (which to me isn’t any different from having an interim - in fact it’s better because it’s the same tactics). Then he joins straight after the WC.

I’m choosing to ignore that part  I don’t get the issue with him job sharing for 3 months.
You're ignoring pre-season, keeping abreast of the Spanish national team players, prepping for a world cup. Assuming they would even be okay with it there would be added pressure from the Spanish camp and from a United perspective too. There's good reason managers don't do job sharing, can't recall the last time it's been done.

Two intensive jobs for a even 6 months can't be good for anyone, he can't give 100% to both and he'd probably end up being worn out.

Ok so what if they are Accounts?
You’ve been talking about change. Replacing an accountant with another accountant friend of his who has been at the club for 15 years is change to you?

Just for example, Bayern is one of the most well-run clubs in the world and their CEO is a former player. Same with Ajax. We’ve had one of the worst CEOs ever since 2013, he spent a lot and won almost nothing. We are a laughing stock on the pitch. And you think we are making changes by replacing him with his accountant friend?

Fletcher has no technical director experience, does not mean he can't do his job?
Does that mean that he can? You think we are making positive changes by bringing in an inexperienced person who might, or might not, be good at his job?

City hired Txiki Begiristain as Technical Director. He was the director of football at Barcelona. They won 2 CLs, 4 La Ligas and 1 Cup during his six seasons at Barca. At least with him, they knew for sure he could do his job.
So are you going to believe everything Rangnick says in the press conference?
Are you calling Ragnick a liar? If he says something that doesn’t support your argument, then we shouldn’t believe him? He doesn’t have anything to gain from saying what he said. So it can’t even be a PR stunt.

Okay 2 clubs. Real Madrid CEO is a former footballer? Liverpool? Chelsea? Man City? Juve?

Are you clueless to what is happening? Fletcher is Technical director along with Rangnick consulting and helping in the background? are you failing to grasp this?

No, he isn't lying, its not up to him to tell us what the role of Fletcher is.

So does that mean you think Fabrizio is a liar? or you only believe him when it supports your argument?

What the feck is the point then?:lol:

It majorly negatively affects another season. So we'd have sacrificed the last 6 months of this season and the first 4 of next season over hiring a manager. A full year to eventually replace the hopeless Solskjaer. It's so incompetent it might just happen.

Exactly, even if he isn't the next manager he could be the one after the next one.

Yep. If things go wrong at least we can show we were previously interested in him and that the only reason it didn't work out was because he had prior commitments.

He potentially could decide to leave Spain early to take over.

It's not what is most likely to happen, but until you speak to him directly you don't know

He laughed at the interviewers who asked him question about being United manager in December. I don't think that looks like the kind of guy who's willing to leave Spain before World Cup. if he didn't want the job by leaving Spain in December, why would he still wants it now?

If we dither on ten Hag other big clubs will snatch him up, and quick. If we dither on Pochetino nothing will happen, because no other big club will want him. This should tell you who is the right person for the job.

Building good relationships I guess. We could end up coming back to him at some point in the future.
I was hoping the next one was gonna be the one we had for 5+years and the one to take us back to the top.

Okay 2 clubs. Real Madrid CEO is a former footballer? Liverpool? Chelsea? Man City? Juve?
All of these clubs are successful on the pitch. Ours is not. Therefore, replacing Ed Woodward with his accountant friend who has been at the club since 2007 is not positive change.

Are you clueless to what is happening? Fletcher is Technical director along with Rangnick consulting and helping in the background? are you failing to grasp this?
No, it’s you who are turning a blind eye on what is truly happening. The club have not listened to him about who to bring in and who to sell during the January window. He gave them cheap and attainable midfield options in January for example. And he said (or implied) that the club haven’t consulted with him yet about the future manager, even though we started interviewing candidates.

No, he isn't lying, its not up to him to tell us what the role of Fletcher is.
Right so he has to help Fletcher in the background but he can’t tell us what he does. He could have just said that it’s not his job to tell us instead of saying that he doesn’t know (because he probably really doesn’t know).
And when he implied in his presser that the club haven’t consulted him about the next manager, is he lying?
So does that mean you think Fabrizio is a liar? or you only believe him when it supports your argument?
Absolutely not. Fabrizio is one of the best transfer journalists out there. He said Ragnick will be consulted in the future. But so far, at the moment, they are not listening to him. I hope they will and that Fabrizio is right.

I was hoping the next one was gonna be the one we had for 5+years and the one to take us back to the top.

Of course. But it doesn't hurt to prepare for other scenarios. The lack of preparation is what has held us back as a club in the past.

I can guarantee City and Liverpool already have an idea or a plan in place if their managers ever left.

We defo ain’t getting him… but if he was interested then he’d want to start at the beginning of a season and not midway.

We’ve only once prised a manager away from another club - moyes. Everyone else has been a free agent, because compensation.

The links to the board wanting Poch go quite a way back and he was definitely lined up before Ole went on a great run and was given the permanent role. I thought that was almost universally accepted?

If we appoint ETH I’ll happily eat my words but forgive me for being less than confident given our recent history of appointments and the noise that has been around for a long time re Poch.

I'm praying that the club are finally starting to understand the importance of developing a style of play and that Poch isn't someone who can deliver that, his teams have no personality. It's Ten Hag or Enrique we need.

I just want to see us pass the ball around like a team that's played together before damn it.

I agree it's highly unlikely, but maybe they are hoping after talking they both decide its the best thing to do. We're not going to announce anything soon even if we do go for ETH, with Ajax being in such a close title race it would be disrespectful and we have a good relationship with them.

So you know they are friends? just because they work in the same organisation. Also, does that mean if you are friends with someone they have the same way of running things as you? their expertise are the same or their opinions are the same?

Being friends doesn't mean you do not different ideas.

So the club didnt loan out Amad, Donny and Martial based on Rangnick's say? Who did he want in midfield?

Well, its all well and good taking his quotes out of context too, he said in and around training it has been good to have Fletcher with him.

These are Fabrizio's quotes
"At the moment Ralf Rangnick is still involved in discussion with the board every time they decide on contracts or the managerial situation"

In what way does that say future to you?

Overwhelmingly in favor of Ten Hag…. Is he even a top 10 manager in the world? Not that Pochettino is, but…

Tuchel
Klopp
Pep
Allegri
Ancellotti
Nagelsmann
Conte
Sarri
Xavi (on recent results)
Simeone

Then you’ve got Gasperini and Gaultier, Unai Emery, Lopetegui, Pochettino I’d put in this group… I guess Ten Hag is in here?

100% agree, but don't see Enrique as realistic. Certain we will feck this up though, if it were to be Ten Hag, why has it not been decided yet..

Just give it up mate, you're clutching at straws big time..

Allegri and Sarri might make top50, not top10..

No but it's clear we haven't communicated a decision or made an offer to Ten Hag yet with all the reports of him wanting to know the clubs answer.

Odds on Poch have shortened today by the way.

Xavi? Sarri? Seriously?

This is a tough, tough decision for the club. They’ve wanted Poch for a while but haven’t been able to get him and have been burned by the ones they did hire. Now it looks like they can get him but ETH seems very attractive too. That’s a tough call for whoever has to make it. Its easy to say “pick him, sack him” as a fan but for the people whose livelihoods depend on this, it is a difficult decision between Poch and ETH for sure, esp with SAF favoring Poch.

The answer to your hypoethical question thus far would be yes. Pochetinno's story is ongoing at his current employers who he's about to win a title with and while he hasn't delivered the CL he's only been at the job a season and a half. He's definitely going to win the league with PSG this season. You wouldn't put money against it as we speak and at this juncture, would you? It's a foregone conclusion.

A league title would eclipse everything else in his managerial history thus far and more importantly (if transfered to united) a league title under anyone not named Ferguson would be a resounding success.

There's no guarantee of success at United no matter the management history. None of the current candidates can guarantee it. So your question is not qualitative especially as I haven't even remotely suggested that Poch would 'guarantee' success here. Put some more thought in your questioning.

Liecester won the title in a poor league. Niether they or Spurs had a team ready to challenge for the title under 'normal' circumstances of business as usual for the top spenders. Did Poch blow his chance in 2016? He absolutely did! ETH blew his chance to beat Poch from a winning position in that 2018/19 CL final that has won him so much adulation and a cult following. Poch beat ETH in the biggest game of his career, at home from a winning position may I add again. Pochettino finished in the top three twice. He pushed Spurs as far as he could.

How did ETH take Ajax to the next level when his 2019 semifinal loss wasn't replicated and he crashed out of two subsequent CL group stages? He also bowed out of EL knockout stages to Getafe in the last 32 the season after his semifinal feat and Fonseca's Roma the season next in the quarterfinals. Frank De Boer won the Eridivisie 4 times on the trot with Ajax, a feat Ten hag hasn't achieved but to be fair the league was abondoned when Corona came and he might leave this season so we may never know of he could do the same. If he remains and fails to do so would that make De Boer the better manager? Not in my eyes! There's nuance to this shit and you severely lack it with your simplistic black and white way of viewing things. Poch is my first choice but that doesn't mean I'm not intrigued by Ten Hag. We don't have to engage or agree over this, our thoughts are clear.
I tried being resonable with you, but you spout the typical drivel. At this point I'm sure you are Amadeus' alt account.

Why bring up the French league if you say say the Dutch is a mikey mouse cup?

And ETH lost from a winning position in a freak match only once. It happens to everyone including Ancelotti, SAF, etc The fact that Poch had 38 matches to win something only to finish below Arsenal.

Remind me what was Poch's European record prior to joining PSG? Out of the group stages. Lost to Juve at home after bringing the advantage from the away leg. You like to say ETH bottled the tie, yet you don't like to admit that Poch has lost from a winning position in Europe multiple times.

Also how did he do in Europa League when he was knocked out from the CL? Ole at least got to the final with a similar squad.

You also dodged my question: if we were to translate Poch's achievements to United, would he be classed as a success here?

You’re questioning Ten Hag as a top manager yet you’ve got fecking Xavi in the top 10 despite being at Barca for 5 minutes.
