Which manager United choose likely tell us which strategy the club go for: 1. A long term rebuild (again) not demanding or expecting titles the next two years, or 2. Get United back in the good company as fast as possible (next season or the season thereafter).
It's one thing if you are talking about winning any silverware, I mean we did come close just last year. If you are talking about the title, well it takes more than just a good manager I'm afraid. It's an elite, winning mentality that even Fergie took awhile to cultivate.

Hmm ok, I interpreted fix as something else, as in we are a broken club. I would be okay with finishing 4th if we played happy, attractive football and looking on the up again.

I think finishing 4th would be sensible and work from there.

Very good post :) Poch is definitely a much more safe choice than ETH.

Alternative 1 = United go for ETH.
Alternative 2 = United go for Poch.

I think United have learned their lessons. No one is patient in this game. United can’t afford to sit quite in the boat in order to harvest the fruits in 3-4y. United can’t take that risk again: ending up with nothing.

United is crazy if the go for alternative 1: a long term rebuild, and as long as we progress bla bla…. The new manager will never have working peace. Players, supporters and everyone will start complaining if United have a bad spell or doesn’t get results already next season. I don’t think ETH is the best choice if we want results quickly, and I don’t think he survives if he doesn’t fix things pretty fast. Poch will probably be more impatient himself and have a great hunger for quick results.

I want us to go all in and do as many big quick fixes as fast as possible and take it from there. Yes… I know I’ve changed my mind from earlier posts:cool:

We don't have a culture at the club anymore, if there is any, then it's not the right one.
We're going to need a manager who cultivates a winning mentality, a stellar job is needed, he'll have to start from scratch.

Out of Ten Hag or Pochettino- who is more likely to change De Gea as their number 1? Ie wanting a more all rounded goalkeeper?

Why is it that we manutd fans love sacked coaches? We are not as lucky as Chelsea when it comes to managers. Please you guys should remember the last time we hired a sacked manager what happened in the end....
We should look at coaches that are doing great on and off the pitch, a coach that can rebuild a team in no time. Not coaches sacked by Chelsea and Tottenham.

With alternative 2, I mostly mean we should be contenders or be in the title race until April. If so, everything can happen. We should be top 3–4 as a minimum, and the gap up shouldn’t be big. We are pretty far from that now. I think the new manager have to do some serious quick fixes in order to bring us there.

Alternative 1 is to me that we accept results like today and be nr. 4-9 in the league because we want to build a team who is competitive in 2025. Alternative 2 is a very bad idea. What if we fail bringing results in 2025 and the long term project chrash like it did with Ole’s project?

We are bad now but we should stop pretending we always need 3y to build things up again. It’s smal margins and I think much can change with a new manager, replacement of several outgoing players and a new season; starting with clean sheets.

The guy still thinks it will be the manager's job to "redevelop the stadium" and "take over the planning of the training ground". He will never learn, a dinosaur in the mind, not even at age 50. You'd think at some point he'd be able to move on, to comprehend and realize there is a reality beyond his personal experience and history under SAF. But nope.

Spot on. Those days are over. Can’t think of any top manager in the game who oversees absolutely all aspects of a club now, it makes the job Fergie did all that more impressive.

Completely disagree, we’re selling a longer term project than just next season and let’s face it, we can pay as well as anyone. I think both are attainable even though I desperately do not want a serial loser in Poch.

Recent weeks have shown that keeping Ralf isn’t an option, he’s been here over 3 months and we’re getting worse.
That long term project has got to be better than the one we’ve been selling under Woodward. I hope we get ETH, I really do. If we have a free run at him it could happen.

I think we'll get him him if the board want him. That's a big if though, cant help but feel they are set on Poch.

Thats what worries me. It is all going to end up the same. We need someone like ETH and give him a few years too.

Conte joined Chelsea after they finished 10th. City were a whisker away from having Pep managing them in the EL if we had a bit more luck in 15/16 with LVG European Football will not play much if any a factor with managers maybe players. Not getting ETH at this point would be a shocking and monumental cock up of epic proportions. He's keen on the job(as per talk in England and Netherlands), has a low release clause, has Ajax's blessing to leave and ETH himself has said he's ready for a step up it's an open goal compared to Poch whom PSG will play hard ball over

pretty much.

He sounds like a hungry Fergie when we got him.

PSG and Ajax are still in the CL, but I hope this gets wrapped up sooner rather than later, one way or another. Or whoever comes will find himself under quite the pressure to figure things out.

I agree on your point but City already reached agreement with Pep long before they were in danger of missing on CL this season. More like they collapsed after they announced their agreement with him.

I have a terrible fear that Poch flopping in the CL with PSG would make our mind up for next manager in entirely the wrong direction.

Well I think we can get Poch on the cheap now. The board will be cheering the Madrid comeback. Please no

I wouldn't go for Poch after this.

Also I would accelerate the move for ten Hag because otherwise PSG will get him 100% this summer.

I don't necessarily blame Poch for his players bricking it. I just worry that our club is so prone to short-term thinking that they won't willingly pay more to secure a manager if they don't have to, even if the reason for paying less is failure in a major competition.

Welcome to United Mauricio Pochettino! He'll fit right in with the losers and dross that currently pollute the squad, no wonder they like him so much.

There's no way Ten Hag would ever fit in with a team like PSG, absolutely no way. He would never go to a team like that

I’m starting to hope we hire Ten Haag as a matter of curiosity.

Some of you lot are so wedded to the idea that I worry for your sanity when it all goes tits up.

Just announce Ten Hag so i can forget this awful season and will have something to cheer me up.
If only…. Won’t be done until the summer out of respect for there current clubs. Both our main targets are at clubs… it
Give it Carlo. Still got it.
He didn’t have it in the first leg though where he got outplayed and dominated. They won and got through because of psg mistakes and lack of finishing.

Would be quite embarrassing for the club rewarding someone for a legendary collapse like that with the United job.

P$G were utterly embarrassing and feckless despite having the most expensive and talented squad in the world with the likes of Mbappe and fecking Messi
