Next Draft - Ideas and Discussions

Stars and Reserves Draft

Draft Restrictions/Allowances:
1. All-time draft with Block list and restricted number of Star players(see below).
3. Initial drafting of 12 players. Extra 2 players per Reinforcement Round, 1 before the final, with the standard inverting the draft order method.
4. The maximum number of Star players in the starting 11 is 2.
5. No substitutions.
6. After the QF, the maximum number of Star players in the starting 11 is 3.

Young Player Rule:
Y1. You can gain the right of playing an additional star player in your starting 11 if you start an outfield player (read: keepers don't count!) born on or after 1st January 1995.
Y2. You can only gain the right once during a match, so playing 2 young players doesn't mean you get 2 extra star player spots.
Y3. Kylian Mbappe is excluded from this rule, meaning that playing him won't get you any additional spots.
Y4. All young players are judged based on the performance level they have shown so far, not based on their potential. This means a CF who has scored 10 goals in a season should be rated on the same level as a 28 years old striker who scores 10 goals in a season.

The aim when constructing the lists was to have the best players in their respective positions (in a broad sense) in the block list.

Star players should be players who are draft regulars / generally well received in the first round of All-Time Drafts and most of the time not seen as a weak point, but who don't get much love when it inevitably becomes a GOAT fest in the later rounds.

I hope the rules are easy to understand and I am open to discussions about some glaring omissions from me.

I can run the draft if there is interest, it should be very straightforward in how it plays out and gives the chance to showcase some players who are less frequently used, without scraping the bottom of the bottle in every position.

The young player rule is interesting: maybe 1990 would be more attractive.

I have a new idea: an Auction Stars and Reserves Draft!!

The young player rule is interesting: maybe 1990 would be more attractive.

The pool for young players needs to be very weak, it is meant as a punishment and otherwise it is too easy to get another star player.

Don't know if having an Auction draft is the best idea to do with reserve players, all managers need to have an idea about the "worth" of the players to act accordingly and that is difficult when you have many unknown players.

A fully deregulated draft makes possible to have Tostao for 5 millions and Nedved for 65 millions; which is the charm of an Auction Draft: some overpay, some focus on 2-3 big stars; some a balanced team and so on.

How about we keep the idea to do another Auction Draft after the next one?

I have yet to participate in an Auction Draft and running one needs some serious knowledge about the thinking process of the managers. I will gladly sign up when someone else wants to run one in the future.

Auction draft next would be nice. Been a while

Tuppet obviously ruined a clear picture and no one know how much his manipulations impacted the games...but still based on what is, looks like Enigma takes the Gold, harms takes Silver and 2mufc0 takes the bronze.

Didn't realize 2mufc actually was this successful in drafts, tbh!

Perhaps this sheep draft will change the dynamics some...let's see.

That looks brilliant. There's so many great players that rarely get a decent airing given how GOAT-laden the typical draft is. Sign me up for this one for sure.

Typical of you to rob me of any credit for getting to the final of the last draft :( ;)

Just seen this whilst browsing around, sound like a good mix of sheep and auction to be under consideration in the future...

You will be given a transfer budget of £150m.

I will post a category, then you will PM me with a bid for a player, that fits the category. Bid in multiples of millions or half millions e.g. You can bid £1m or £1.5m, but not £1.3m or £1.68m.

If two people bid on the same player, the highest bid wins. If you don’t get a player via a bid, you have to bid again on the same category, losing the amount from your original bid plus the amount from your next bid.

If two people bid the same amount on a player, I will PM them both to increase their bid, until one of the two has a higher bid.

If you fail to get a player on your third attempt, you will be assigned a player by the person who got the original player you bidded for.

When all bids are in, I will reveal who has made a successful bid and who needs to bid again. Once everyone has a player, I will reveal the players chosen.

Then we’ll move on to the next category.

Categories, in order, are as follows:

Round 1: Pick a player who has scored over 100 career goals (competitive games only, club & international goals included)

Rnd 2: Pick a player who has never won a league title (lower division titles are still league titles, as are Brazilian state leagues)

3: Pick a Ballon d’or winner

4: Pick a goalkeeper.

5: Pick a player who has scored in a domestic cup final.

6: Pick a player with more than 50 caps, but less than 80.

7: Pick a player who has been a teammate of your previous pick.

8: Pick a World Cup winner.

9: Pick a player who has won a league outside of the top leagues in England, Spain, Italy and Germany. To be clear, if a player had won the top league in those four countries, they’re ineligible.

10. Pick a one club player. The likes of Xavi and Gerrard are not one club men, but if a player was loaned to another club, they can still be considered a one club man.

11. Pick any player you want.

——

Please don’t give hints as to who you’re bidding for in the thread.

Obviously we'd likely play without knowing categories up front, if we decided to run with it at some point.

Crazy thing is Charly is another Tuppet incarnation. Means he had a great draft year. Hard to beat that really.

Floating another idea just for the sake of it.

All players would be divided into 10 sets. Set 1 players will have 1 point, set 2 players will have 2 points, set 3 players will have 3 etc

It will be a snake style draft and you can pick any player you want without any restrictions w.r.t sets.

After your lineup is built, the total of the all points of each player in your team is added up.

For example:

Team 1

1. Cruyff (10)
2. Gullit (9)
3. Stoichkov (8)
4. Neeskens (8)
5. Van Hanegem (6)
6. Haan (2)
7. Krol (9)
8. Hulshoff (1)
9. Koeman (5)
10. Cafu (9)
11. Van der sar (6)

Total = 73

Team 2

1. Rvn (6)
2. Beckham (6)
3. Giggs (5)
4. Charlton (9)
5. Keane (8)
6. Scholes (6)
7. Evra (3)
8. Vidic (5)
9. Rio (7)
10. Neville (2)
11. De Gea (6)

Total = 63

Ratio of team 1: team 2 = 73:63 = 1.1587:1

Team 1 needs to beat the ratio of votes to win the game

Ratio of votes in game of team 1: team 2 = 15:13 = 1.1538:1

Team 2 wins since it has the better ratio of votes

Basic idea being you don't need to build a GOAT heavy team to win the draft and can highlight your lesser known players with an incentive to need lesser votes than your opponent to win the game as long as you have the better ratio.

In for all the above mentioned drafts. Just start one already!

We need to wait before QF and SF rounds are over before we can start the next one:)
