Next Draft - Ideas and Discussions

cm is the older version where everything in simple :D

Ah, you like the simplicity. Fair enough. Have you a link to the tactics options in CM? I really think having something like questions with multiple choice answers for tactics could be a good idea to supplement the OP. It would be easy for each manager to fill in and would easily identify the style of play. Hopefully it would also increase the quality of discussions

tbh i just commented on the game in general, it was way more fun back then when it was simple and fun....or maybe it was because i was younger i dont know. For draft here its better to use what harms posted.

@harms

That's an interesting screenshot. Are there any others showing some different broad options? I'm thinking in particular of mixed crossing section

It would be good to have a draft without the formation pictures.

Have long write ups and explain your strategy and let people read before they vote. And let managers concentrate more on presenting the tactical side rather than better graphics.

I know removing the pictures sounds a bit boring at start, but it would lead to more discussion and less scan votes IMO and can be experimented in some game if not a draft if both the manager's agree.

nice idea, and when we use formation picture i would force that everyone use the same site for it....your formation looks much better and solid with those bigger circles that have a picture innit then the regular lidl ones. It probably doesnt make a difference in 99% of the cases but i reckon there are a few that fell for it and sometimes one is enough.

The current draft gets over hopefully ends by Thursday. Given Friday is a bank holiday and then weekend, do we want to start the draft on Monday?

@BeforeKeanetherewasRobson wanted to give some time to the drafters to research as well. Thoughts?

Can we get a roll for draft positions?

  3. Indnyc
  4. Gio
  5. Moby
  6. Tuppet
  7. Arbitrium
  8. Onenil
  9. Raees
  10. Cal?

  15. Youngrell
  16. Edgar (Unless someone else wants to take his spot)

I don't really like the pick time limits that we see more often in drafts. You have 8 hrs to make a pick and that covers for timezone difference. I can understand the intention but there must be better ways of going about that. Having reinforcement order based in that is imo taking it a tad too far.

I wish we'd go back to having an 8 hr limit with no penalties for using allotted time. Our drafts are fast enough without needing more tweaks.

Just encourage leaving picks via PMs without counting time.

But you can't deny the picks times are way better and ridiculously fast when pick times come into play.

Is this the roll order? Or just the list of participants?

In, by the way.

I got all giddy with excitement when I saw we were second but it seems to just be the list of participants. In fairness I'm not sure if it will even be advantageous to be at the top of the picking order in this draft.

@Indnyc Confirmed.

What's this about pick time? You get rewarded for picking fast?

Seems pointless to me. I agree with @Edgar Allan Pillow. Punishing people for missing the deadline, that's a given - but rewarding people for being either lucky or obsessive just seems bizarre.

I invented average pick times as a way to break ties in games. It's a very marginal advantage but it does really increase pick times and it also rewards leaving picks too.

If that's what it's for, I have no issues with it - better than pens or flipping a coin, certainly.

I was thinking more along the lines of using it for deciding the picking order in reinforcement rounds, etc. Which would be more than a marginal advantage.

I'd forgotten it was used for reinforcement pick order. That's too much of an advantage.

Avg pick time works great, agree it should only be used to decide ties though

Any other suggestions?

I remember we discussed this at one point:

Have a draft committee rank the squads (1-16) after the drafting is done. Then use said ranking in the event of draws.

The upside to this is that the decider is based on something more or less relevant and concrete (the presumably somewhat informed opinions of the committee members).

The downside is that someone has to do the actual ranking (which could be tedious enough – but then again, this isn't something the committee would need to spend a lot of time on, it could be done superficially and still be better than just flipping a coin).
