Next 7 league fixtures - acceptable points total?

Predicted 14. Revising it to 3. One win or 3 draws a real possibility.

If we set our expectations that low at least there's a small chance we could end up pleasantly surprised.

Makes up for the Forest result, at least, so potentially a decent points return is back on the cards.

3 points from Arsenal, Forest and City is exactly what I expected but just didn't happen the way I expected. This was more fun though.

Bournemouth Wolves and Newcastle has to be 9 points. Shouldn't be fearing any of those sides.

That’s 3 of the 7 fixtures discussed in the opening post, completed.
Only 1 win (3 points) from those 3 games.

The next 3 PL games are vital, because they should now be winnable.
Bournemouth (H)
Wolves (A)
Newcastle (H).

All three will be tough, including Wolves who may be getting a new manager bounce, by Boxing Day.
However, if we can get all 9 points out of these matches, we can go to Anfield (the last of the 7 fixtures) in a positive frame of mind and give it a good go, without worrying about losing.

We currently lie just 6 points behind Forest in 4th place.
Get those 3 wins and our season’s fortunes can be turned around.

Back to the start of December.....

Arsenal (A) - Loss
Forest (H) - Loss
City (A) - Win
Bournemouth (H) - Loss
Wolves (A)
Newcastle (H)
Liverpool (A)

W-1 D-0 L-3

3 points from 12 so far.
3 points from 21 points on the table for these 7 games.

At this rate, we'll be lucky to get 1 win or draw from the remaining 3 fixtures in this run of games.

Other than a win against Wolves, I don't see how we could get more.

It'd take hilarious levels of delusion to see anything bar a L for Liverpool away. Newcastle could easily go either way, so we're relying on facing a shocking Wolves side.

But is anyone confident at any league away game right now?

Even that's looking doubtful after today's results.

Wolves have by far the worst defensive record this season, but we can't score goals anyway.

Wolves also have a top half of the table scoring rate, but our defensive record is getting worst every game.

On that form, Wolves may be getting a rare home win on Boxing Day.

Earlier in this thread, most were predicting (or hoping for) 10-12 points from the 21 on offer from these 7 games.

The wildly optimistic predicted 13-15 points.

4 games in and we have just 3 points out of those 21, with 3 tough games left.
Anyone willing to predict we'll end up with as little as 6 points out of a possible 21 from this 7 game run?

.

Hard to see where the points come from in those last 3 games if the Bournemouth game is anything to go by. Despite the improved general play, we still make just too many silly, costly errors.

Actually I think we will beat Wolves and Newcastle, and probably lose to Liverpool very comfortably as they are in top form.

It might even be only 3 points. We are a total mess at the moment. Wolves have a new manager. Liverpool will destroy us. I wouldn't trust us to beat any team at the moment.

The feeling of doom is overpowering at the moment. After the city game I felt incredibly happy and so optimistic, the Tottenham game was a setback but I wasn't particularly bothered as long as we had a good showing today but it didn't come.

I think we could beat Wolves though, they are absolutely rubbish. Their mentality is even weaker than ours so if we get a goal and keep it tight at the back I think we come away with a narrow victory.

Newcastle I think is a loss or a draw.

Liverpool is definitely a loss let's be real.

Maximum 4 more points.

Not even confident of a home win.

Spurs put 4 past us the other day and made us look like monkeys.
Today they were thrashed at home by Liverpool, who put 6 past them.
We are going to get an almighty pasting at Anfield.

Wolves is a difficult one and won’t be easy.
Their defensive record is abysmal, but we can’t score anyway.
At the other end, they are a high scoring team and our defence is getting worst each game.
That doesn’t bode well, unless we get a grip and turn things around quickly.
Had we won convincingly today, I would be more confident.

In the OP I said I’d be happy with 10+ points. As of right now I’d be fecking delighted with 10+ points.

Realistically I’m hoping for 7.

I don’t give us a prayer of 7, but I hope you’re right. Before today’s game it felt like a must win for many reasons. Right now I’m thinking we could easily lose all 3. Today was a damaging result and performance and I think we might end up in trouble this season.

Predicted 10 but currently on 3 with a chance of finishing on 7 (beat Wolves and draw with Newcastle).

But even that’s going to be tough if Wolves continue their new manager bounce.

I'm confident we'll beat Wolves and we might just as well beat Newcastle at home. I don't see us without chance for a result at Anfield but it's not likely. 9 points it is.

Wolves is an absolute must win because I can't see any other wins in these fixtures. But then I said that before the City game, so let's hope a couple of them have a bad day at the office like City did.

This side is unpredictable same as the starting 11 is , Wolves away Toon And Liverpool next 3 . I honestly couldn't say what to expect, stats show results aren't what they supposed to be. But lost to Forest and Bournemouth at Home and conceded 3 in both.
Could win them all or easily lose them badly

We'll get nothing at Anfield (possibly not even a shot of any real threat) and are going out of the FA Cup. Don't trust us not top cock things up at Molineux and who knows which United and which Newcastle will tip up on 30th

This thread is fun, perhaps we can create a game where we all try and guess our points total in every set of games (almost like the score prediction league).

38 game a season and we predict the points total for every 6 set of fixtures** (the final set of fixtures being 4 each) and the participant with the closest or exact point total to the club’s actual points total after 38 games wins.

Might be a fun exercise, considering everything is pretty miserable yet kind of unpredictable right now.

**Or the fixtures be separated monthly or any other way, doesn’t matter.

Not expecting much as we are still in “preseason” but the team needs to start taking these league games more seriously or risk losing fan support quickly. The 3-0 score lines can only happen so many times before people stop caring about xg percentages instead of actual wins. Yes the city result was nice but that came down to two moments of brilliance from one player.
