Neville - ‘’no style of play’’

Of course Ole should get to the end of the season because if we change the manager every 8 premier league games when they fall below a 50 percent win ratio then we are screwed.

The people who come back and cry about style of play, did we really have a style of play in the 8 years before this, I’d say we’ve had a boring style of play since 2010. There has been glimmers here and there especially through the Christmas period last year when I thought we could go and do something. The thing is Ole knows what he needs as we all do and that’s a midfielder.

Yes we need more of a style of play but we now have to adapt it for a 37 year old Ronaldo not to mention the tactical problem that Pogba causes the team. I said previously that Ole has reshaped the club and he definitely has done and he has brought some sort of order to us, this summer I said I would give him until the summer of 2023 by which time he must win us a league and I still stand by this.

I think we will see a resurgence in our performances if we can consistently play Rashford and Sancho on the wings with Cavani, Pogba, Greenwood coming off the bench.

When have we ever done that. We were crap at the end of last season, crap at the beginning of this season, with no indications of improvement.

If you think the call for Ole to be sacked is happening based only on 8 games, you mustn't have kept your finger on the pulse!

But, rather importantly, what Carragher did say is that it is not just Paul Pogba being selected in midfield that's the problem, but then the selection of "five attacking players", as he refers to them, when Paul Pogba is played in midfield. That's a important distinction. United are defensively frail not because Paul Pogba is in the double pivot, but that they are vulnerable because the four players in front of him offer no real first line of defence, as can be seen by the MotD analysis, the MNF analysis, or the the Michael Cox article in The Athletic. It's why we are still easy to progress against even if you play Fred and McT there.

I agree that's a huge problem as well, but we do look more solid with Fred/Mct and 4 attacking players in front of them. We certainly had our best run last season with that selection.

We currently have 2 of the top 10 strikers, 2 of the top 10 teenagers, 2 of the top 10 midfielders and 2 of the best top 10 defendersv (Im not including GK, LB , squad players). This is enough reason to sack any manager.

In my eyes if we have the right recruitment in the summer then he has his squad. Chelsea have a wonderfully balanced squad as do Liverpool and Man City (less a striker), Ole had the fourth best squad in my eyes last season and managed to finished second.

I think some people are forgetting just how horrendous our squad was 2 years ago and now it’s like night and day and most of that is down to Ole, he’s been smart enough to get us this far, I’ve always believed it would take 3-4 years to bring the team and squad up to championship winning level, in my eyes we would be stupid to get rid even next summer.

Just because we have signed a 37 year old Ronaldo everyone thinks he should win the league, it’s the feckin premier league and everyone needs to work hard. I believe this is what is causing the dismay, he needs to be given until summer 2023.

Regardless of what happens I can’t see the board getting rid until at least the summer.

Wonder Why Klopp didn’t get sacked last year, he probably had a world 11. Guess you don’t mean any.

This just isn't true though is it, our biggest problem is that we're far too gung-ho and have no control when the ball is turned-over.
You can’t let actual reality get in the way of a rant. The entire “we have awful coaches” thread has been banging on about buzz words like patterns of play all season when by far our biggest sodding issue which is very much about coaching is our inability to win the ball back after turnovers meaning we can’t sustain attacks or build momentum, the space between our CBs and CM and our lack of defensive structure in transition. You have to earn the right to play by doing the basics well through solid foundations and we’re so unbelievably easy to play against it’s untrue. The idea we’re defensive when we play Pogba, sancho, Greenwood, Ronaldo and Bruno in the same team and push both our fullbacks high is so insanely batshit mental I have no words to comprehend it - but hey mark goldbridge says we are so the sheep all follow.

Klopp won the Champions league and PL in the last years. Last year he had half his squad injured ( most important players). I dont think he is a good example, neither Pep or Tuchel. Pochetino might be a good example that you dont get sack with a good squad but it was too soon for him. Ole has no excuses left.

To which Neville replied an FA Cup and top 4 finish would be success. Jesus
Not sure he worded it like that. Didn't he say it would be a building block and you couldn't sack him then?

Did he actually use the word success

"A manger in place for over 3 years"

noun: a long open box or trough for horses or cattle to eat from.

Things are getting out of hand!

Fantastic data driven video into what we're failing at. DDG comes out of it worse than I would have guessed.

I don't agree with Neville on the Paul Pogba midfield situation. Carragher had it right, it's never worked for us and Ole had a mare trying it again vs Leicester.
Think it's the opposite. Neville is right. Pogba is not the major issue here. Not by any stretch of imagination. It's our coaching. Can't have 4 players up front that do absolutely nothing, or in case of Bruno, do whatever they please. It will leave you exposed no matter how good your CMs are.
They're both right in a way.

Pogba in a deep midfield role is something we've been trying to make work for 5 years and it just isn't there. Bruno/Pogba are both high risk, high turnover players - you can get away with 1 of these types of players in a midfield 3 but not 2, we lose the ball too often and the effectiveness of Pogba's defensive work isn't good enough.

At the same time, Neville is correct that the workrate and pressing of our front 4 is pathetic and is leaving us exposed, they need to work like City/Liverpool players do. We're a team that lose the ball too often in easy possession, and are also dreadful at winning it back. It's a recipe for disaster, it's actually funny we're 3 years into current regime and we can't even play as a team in or out of possession.

Outside of working harder, they need to be coached on how to press effectively and cohesively, otherwise we end up with a bunch of headless chickens getting played around with ease like we see every time we do attempt to press aggressively.

Until summer 2023? That "awful" squad which he inherited had 81 points in PL and won 3 trophies.
Ole in 3 years upgraded that squad with dozen HIS players, spent over 400 mil euros and is nowhere near what Jose did. You are right; night and day.

Sorry, i forgot good mood. He won good mood trophy. That is huge trophy.

2023. What are we charity FC now. Ole has run out of time and excuses. He now has a squad capable of challenging for the league. No more top 4 Ole, no more progress FC. It's time to deliver and if you can't then it's thank you and goodbye

Best group of players we've had post Fergie, yet looking the most disjointed. I do not have the answer to who can get this group running well, but if Chelsea can make the call early in the season and get results going, surely we can think of the right candidate?

I’m sure he said would be a success or successful season. I know Carragher said even if he won a trophy like FA Cup he should still be dismissed as simply not good enough. It was a baffling take where I felt Neville lowered his expectations compared to most other fans.

Wonder Why Klopp didn’t get sacked last year, he probably had a world 11. Guess you don’t mean any.

If you can't tell the difference between a guy who just won a champions league and the league against a mighty oil team, who had insane centre back luck in a weird season with no fans in a packed in closer than usual season, and Ole, I despair for you.

Neville is right about the forwards, too many who want to watch the rest do the work. At Utd we were so lucky to have flair players likes Giggs and Beckham who gave fabulous quality but also outstanding work-rate, hard runs and discipline when it was needed.

So sacrifice a few.

I think you have completely missed the point.

Conte. It’s really easy.

No. We signed Varane and Sancho. Had we used the Ronaldo money to sign Rice, we could, and should, have challenged.

Ronnie was the cherry on top of a cake that wasn’t finished.

Im not saying Ronnie isn’t brilliant to have but it really seems to me that it was one of Woodward’s Falcoa, Di Maria parting shot moments.

Regardless, if we win the league this season I wouldn’t be surprised.

We have more chance of finishing 6th than 1st.

Agreed (something I never thought I’d type in a response to you) but yep it just seems so obvious now. Start planning with Sancho/Bruno/rashford and greenwood. The guy who’s blatantly going to leave on a free in the summer obviously shouldn’t be first choice.
Even if we do that which I agree is reasonable, Bruno has to change the way he plays. The guy plays way too forward and leaves the midfield bare with just two players and this is made worse with our wingers that are very attacking and add little out of possession or build up play.

Because he’s earnt the right to get time and had his best defender out the entire season?

This idea that keeping hold of a manager long term will suddenly mean we win trophies is nonsense. You need the right man in the first place. Ole certainly isn’t that.

What does his nationality have to do with it?

Do you think Haaland is average?

Are you dumb? Think before you type.
It's not really dumb though, cant remember any decent Norwegian manager in recent memory and generally Norwegians aren't really great at football though, using Haaland as an example of 1 in 1000 doesnt change the fact.
That said, his point was not really about Ole being Norwegian although your point is well noted.

Gibberish, wont be bothered to reply.
If you're poor at your job you should get sacked, that's not rocket science.

Hang on hang on. If Haaland hung up his boots now He would be miiiiiles behind Ole as a footballer. Ole was a better finisher, passer and achieved more. Haaland will almost certainly be the best Norwegian footballer of all time, but he’s nowhere near right now.

I actually do not care who is better between him and Ole, Norwegians on average are not great at football and that's a fact!
The point though is that Ole is not a good coach, doesnt matter if he is Parkistani or Spanish.

Noway is a country of 5m people. They produce as many top tier footballers as the UK.

Ole is not a great coach. I wasn’t suggesting he is. He’s been good for the club for 2+ years. We need a top manager to realise the potential of our squad.

Stop. Acknowledge what Ole has done. He healed us, Post Jose and LVG. He’s been a positive and should be retained by the club. But a better coach is needed to take us forward.

Where exactly are these top tier footballers? Anyway that's not the point.
He isn't even a good coach by premiership standard, how is he great?
Hussenhutl and Potter are good coaches, Ole is not.

Finished 4th, after winning the Champions League and Premier League in his previous seasons, one of them after a 3 decade absence. Had his best defender out all season and multiple other injuries at CB, his club owners gave him a Schalke reserve centre back on loan to fix the problem. Spent just €80m too that summer.

Ole has no injury problems, no Champions League title, no Premier League title and has spent just 50m less in three years than Klopp has in six. Just this Summer alone Ole spent €140m.

I mean, it’s almost the same dal.

Hussenhutl and Potter are good coaches, Ole is not.

They are a country of 5m. By year/per capita I think they’re above most countries in terms of PL winners. Higher still by sheer medal count.

Ignoring your point on Oles coaching credentials. Im not promoting him. At all. Moyes is a better coach but failed here. Hussenhutl and Potter would too. It’s a bit, tough job. Ole has done a great job to set us straight. Cleared deadwood, signed young players, got everyone on board. Don’t ignore his successes just to say someone better is needed. I agree. But Conte/Klopp/Guardiola would Not have done a better job in 2.5years post Jose. He’s done us right.

Yeah I did. Did he need to imply all Norwegians were mediocre because they’re Norwegian?

This kind of stuff is way too normalised on here. We need to stamp it out.

People just type whatever shite they want like there are no consequences.

If you think my reply was harsh then you’re probably part of the problem.
Proper post

Who the hell would hire him.

We're the only club in the league that rewards mediocrity.

We have Pogba, Ronaldo, Bruno yet we're sitting with a championship level manager.

We won't win the league or anything this season so how is this man still in a job.

See : Gareth Southgate

Talented, but ultimately limited, Useful Idiots.

England and United have the same problem.
