He's a good sub for Herrera when Herrera is tired or over used. You may win two trophies again with him (not the CL) but with negligible improvement to your 6th place.

I'm happy with this signing. Perisic next please. ;)

How's your signings going?

Players like him and persic won't make the headlines but what they'll offer this squad will be priceless

the fact Liverpool fans are coming here saying how happy they are all the more means it's a good signing.

He's just winding everyone up... I'm more surprised people are falling for the bait.

It's a shame because I'd like to hear genuine opposition opinions on this signing. So far I've seen only 1 Liverpool fan I think, but he'd made some very fair and valid points even if I disagree.

If only we could have pulled of the coups that is Mo Salah and Dom fecking Solanke.

I'd imagine it's like for the Lukaku signing, rivals will know we'll rise again, and they'll be able to see something is brewing.
it's take a very ABU type to not have noticed how farcical it was becoming not being able to beat anyone at home last year, that won't continue. We've signed two big strong experienced Premier league performers. We're looking solid.

I think they're aiming to play a team of attacking mids next year, Coutinho, Lallana, Salah, Mane, Firminho. Just play those 5 every game, don't worry about defence.

Agreed, but that particular poster will troll everyone even if we signed Messi.

40 million for a player soon to be 29 that has been quite average for two seasons now. Our board certainly knows how to get great deals when selling players

If you guys are expecting Matic to be a beast for you guys then your going to be very disappointed, he's slow, quite timid, is extremely one footed, doesn't really get stuck in and literally offers nothing offensively. He'll do a job sitting in front of a back 4 but I wouldn't expect him to dominate any games or to put in any standout performances.

Glad this probably means you won't be signing Fabinho now who would have been a huge upgrade on Matic. also I feel it rules out Verratti which is even better news

To describe Matic Herrera and Pogba as dour is ridiculous. Pogba is one of the most exciting and creative players in the world.

You will have dour games with that midfield either way.

Be interesting to see how long he takes to get up to full fitness. He's not taken part in any of our pre-season preparations and has been training on his own.
I'd be curious to get your opinion on Matic and what we can reasonably expect from him.

Thank you for your analysis, hope you feel better now.

Can't believe he's going to be 32 in 2021.

Didn't he record about 7 assists last year?

And it's interesting to hear you had a guy starting 35 league games putting in average performances, the rest of your boys must be red hot :)

As old as 29! Amazing! You know our current main option in that position is 36 don't you :)

I'm not excited about Matic but he'll he'll get the best out of Pogba and our full backs (if we had better ones that'd be more waiting).

Perisic next though? If we get him he'll tear your defence to shreds :)

Verratti was never on that cannot be good news :wenger:

Agreed.
And since when did we ever get a good sell on value for a player who was any good?
Ronaldo. Di Maria, Memphis.
The rest of our sales have always been when the players were "done" and we sold for low values.
Buying a player with sell on value in mind, is not something with MUFC need to worry about.
Di Maria and depay we lost money on

Which is the exact reason we bought him. Nice.

If we bought him to play in a two man MF, I don't like. If we bought him to play as DM in a 3 man with Pogba on the left and Herrera as a box to box then I'm ok with it.

Jose clearly never wanted Fabinho and Verrati was never an option so that's just silly talk from you.
At 29 Matic will give us 3/4 good years and considering he will be replacing a 36 year old that's called improvement.
Chelsea are now left with only 3 first team midfielders so good luck finding a solid replacement to sit on the bench.

From what you are saying Matic was basically a passenger, meaning that you guys won the league with 10 men. 35 odd games, with 10 men, vs 11 men and you won the title - that's impressive stuff.

Terrible post.

Wasn't it Dumbstar who couldn't wait to tell everyone how happy he was with the Lukaku signing as soon as it happened?
What's the point?

You will have dour games with that midfield either way.

This sounds more like what you'd like to happen, rather than actually what will happen.

Matic is supposed to give more leverage to Pogba, and to an extent Herrera to be more attacking and creative. In particular Pogba who is excellent at driving from midfield will benefit from being able to stay higher up and take charge during counter attacks. I agree that Herrera isn't the best going forward, but he's not the worst either. Not many midfielders can compare to Modric and Kroos, that doesn't make you bad. We also have Pereira who fingers crossed can make his mark this season. There's also a good proposition to be made to play Mkhitaryan in the No.10 role, with Pogba and Matic behind him and this would be for when we play against the 'lesser' teams at home in who'll camp outside their box. Mourinho is all about having options, and Matic adds a dimension to our squad that we just don't have. Our main CDM Carrick has a fantastic range of passing, but not the defensive ability. TFM is untested.

FWIW, Chelsea played Kante and Matic (Uninspiring as it gets on paper, with Moses and Alonso flanking) many times last season, and played absolutely beautiful football at times. Case in point - 4-0 at Stamford bridge vs. ourselves. The whole point of Matic, is to give our more attacking players greater freedom to express themselves, rather than being shackled to defensive duties.

To be fair, 40 million for a 29 year old defensive midfielder is pretty nuts.

1, he is a proven EPL league winner, joining us from the reigning champs.
2, all EPL teams these days have lots of money available to them, which means to buy a player from another EPL team, requires us to spend lots of money.

Given the above, £40M is about right.

I'm just going to post this again in hopes that the naysayers and pessimists have a moment to rethink:

And it's not a one off. He has scored quite a few crackers. Having a DM capable of that ain't so bad.
