Nemanja Matic| BBC says deal agreed

Fair point, tho I still feel talent (and goals) wise we are still a fair bit off what we need to win the league. The collapse of the Griezmann deal has buggered up our entire offseason

I do think the Griezmann debacle did ruin our summer to an extent, also showing a potential lack of flexibility with our targets. If it had gone ahead though, our summer would have looked much better:

Griezmann, Lukaku, Lindelof, Matic

I think far fewer would have been complaining had this been number 4 instead of number 3.

Mourinho is wumming us, just like he did when he sold us Mata, except this is an even worse value for money, and it's being done from the inside

A supporter "cannot wait" for a player that plays for his club to fail so that he can criticise him on a football forum.

Amazing new low hit successfully.

At least one saw something wrong in that post.

Good signing. Both Pogba and Herrera should benefit a lot from this signing. Matic perhaps isn't the best value for money but ultimately he'll improve us and that's the most important thing.

We are going to be impossible to beat  Our defence + the best pure DM in the premier league is going to leak next to no goals, and I can already see the matchday threads fawning when he and Bailly pound players around.

Pogba is going to absoloutley love this, I'm expecting many late runs into the box from him now.

Can also see us getting value for money here, Matic seems the type of player to me where his game really wont deteriorate much as he gets older, can see us getting at the very least, 3 top quality years out of him.

I'm looking forward to this. Not only is he competent on the ball, but he'll allow players like Pogba and Herrera to move further up the pitch and get involved in our attacks more. He may not be a muppet signing like Fabinho or Cockdecker or whatever player some folk appear to have just heard about ten minutes ago, but if Mourinho can get the best out of him then we'll have a very solid DM. And for me that's the most important thing; what Mourinho can get out of him. Time and again players have come here with big expectations and not met them, but Jose has worked with Nemanja before and if he thinks he's good enough for us then I'll take it.

It's a 3 man midfield, meaning there isn't a strict number 10, just like Real Madrid. What on earth are you talking about?

There is a world of difference between what Modric and Kroos offer going forwards than what Herrera does.

I think playing pogba as the furthest forward midfielder is a waste of what he offers that is somewhat unique - The creativity and skill of a top attacking midfielder from a deeper position, whilst also doing midfield chores. basically gives you an extra attacker without sacrificing a midfielder.

Pogba as the furthest forward midfielder is good, but hardly unique. Except in that sense that you won't find a 10 at that level who gives you more defensively than he does.

You're implying Pogba and Herrera in a 2 behind a #10 will have the exact same freedom and responsibilities as they will when playing in front of Matic. Obviously they will have more freedom to create.

I reckon you'd rather have a more creative player than herrera given that freedom though.

You've won titles in Carrick and Scholes in midfield, ffs. I'm a bit flabbergasted so many think you now need two defensive midfielders and a box-to-box midfielder to be balanced.

Not at all just because we were known to be very keen on the lad that is all. Some people on here are very touchy
It's probably the insistence on turning every situation to one of despair by a large section of this forum.

Excellent signing, ignoring the hyper-inflated fee. He'll provide a solid base to midfield that was sorely missing last season, will allow the others to shine.

Will be pleased when this deal comes through, Jose believes in the lad that's good enough for me to give him the benefit of the doubt. If this was two years ago I would have been over the moon, now I'm just cautiously optimistic that he'll do well for us.

Pogba can now play in his beastly Juve position as inside left and Herrera has the freedom to patrol the midfield further up to disrupt play.
Basically our formation from late November to mid January

Mid 3 of Matic sitting, Herrera grafting, and Pogba license to do what he wants sounds pretty ace on paper, lets wait and see how it turns out.

Rooney had more I think.

He was just saying in Premier League I think. You're right though Rooney had 8 (5 in league). Herrera (7 total) and Martial both got 6 assists in the league and that was our highest. Ibra also got 8 assists in total.

I searched and found one poster using that term once and the a bunch of posts by r'holler complaining about people using the term.

I also used term and similar term for Fabinho, got warning from mods and informed that my post might be deleted, so yea.

A lot of our titles were with Keane and scholes in midfield to be fair. Or scholes and fetch etc. Don't recall that many with scholes and Carrick as starting central mids.

But agree we definitely don't need two dm's. Glad we're getting matic as there are a few youngsters who might come good in that spot in a few years too

Terrible value for money indeed. He's an experienced player who will improve United's midfield but he'll need replacing himself in 3 seasons. No sell on value at all. I would've preferred Dier
