Fair point, tho I still feel talent (and goals) wise we are still a fair bit off what we need to win the league. The collapse of the Griezmann deal has buggered up our entire offseason

I think he'll turn out to be a really good signing for us. Has won 2 of the last 3 titles, is known by Mourinho and fills a gaping hole.
Hes very good defensively and tidy enough on the ball and whilst not being the most progressive he will help to free up Herrera and Pogba can mitigate that. Will be a solid anchor for us, and adds to the ever increasing physical nature of the team.

Or they wanted to sell him because the manager doesn't want him just like Costa, easy as that.
Anyway, whatever the cause they wanted to sell him for it doesn't change that there's nothing called funding a transfer for another club. If you applied it for us then you have to apply it for any club paying any player.
We wanted a player they had. We negotiate and paid the price. What they do with the money, either putting it in their pocket or paying it for any player, is non of our business.

If we want to go narrow, then I rather go with a back four, like in a 4132 formation or a diamond, sacrificing one CB for the no.10. After all, Matic will be sitting close to our CBs, almost acting like a 3rd CB when needed.

Conte and Matic don't seem to see eye-to-eye. His recent comments show that. I think Conte is as combustible a character as Mourinho is, only difference is, he is winning in the battle with players at the moment, while Mourinho was binned.

Don't think it was Conte's decision. It seems the player has been given the freedom to choose his destination similar to how Cech was as a sign of a goodwill.

It's been said that Conte didn't want to sell him. They offered Matic a new contract which he turned down. Apparently Abramovic stepped in and allowed him to join us as a gesture of goodwill for what hes helped them achieved. Same happened with Cech.

He has a contract with the club. Had it been United I wouldn't have wanted us to strengthen our rival and weaken us at the same time. Should have sold him to Juventus even if for a lower fee.
The level of balancing required depends on the revenue of the club. Chelsea have always sold players to fund new signings Mourinho did it to us with Mata when he was there.

Should have seen this one coming. But, at least he is a better footballer than Fellaini. We should have gone for Adrien Rabiot, who has far greater potential and a better footballing IQ. Nevertheless, Matic is better than what we have in this role, which is not really a compliment.
His defensive awareness is pretty awesome though, wouldn't surprise me if we are right up there with Spurs for best defensive record this season even with Jose loosening the shackles more to get some goals.
