Very undwerhelming in the context of a team aspiring to be an elite team with two world class players (Pogba arguably, and de Gea).
Yeah, we should've gone out and bought 9 world class players this summer instead. Blast!

It's not a signing to excite you but I think he's a good player who will improve us.

And if it's a case of Fellaini or Matic then it's a no brainer.

Who are the world class players in Chelsea's team? or Juve's team?

There's no point in keeping a player who doesn't want to stay and they're getting rewarded handsomely for it.

Agreed, but they're directly strengthening a PL rival. I'm sure their first preference would have been to sell abroad, and it's not like Matic wouldn't have had plenty of suitors. I'm sure a few would even match the 40m fee. According to the Sky Sports Article they're letting him come to us as a goodwill gesture for service, similar to how they did for Cech. This suggests the sale is sentimental, rather than the money. If it was the opposite situation I wouldn't want Matic going to Chelsea under any circumstance.

Not really. Our attack is well balanced now if Matic, Hererra and Pogba are the 3 in midfield. (Which will be the case for most big matches).

Lukaku and 2 of Rashford, Marital, Mata, Lingard, Mhiki and Perierra will give us many options!

Of course we have options. I am not worried about depth. More worried about width which we would need lots of if we were to play a 4-3-3 as our number 1 formation. None of the players you mentioned are genuiune wingers.

Chelsea fans do not seem happy with this at all.

Well, these things take time. Obviously we hope the likes of Rashford and Bailly become world class. We target a world class talent every year. Last year it was Pogba, this year it was Griezmann. I think its important we have a strong core and allow our players to grow into their roles.

I could just about deal with £40m, maybe even justify it in todays market but if the £50m rumours are true, thats unbelievable.

We will have no right to laugh at the £50m City paid for Walker if we sign Matic for the same price. Just being honest.

But it's not £50m so carry on laughing at City if you want.

If it was 50 million we would have finished the deal long ago. I am guessing Chelsea budged considering 40 is still great business.

Chelsea were never going to sell him to us and Jose on the cheap, especially after we beat them to signing Romelu.

What with the add-ons and everything I guess.

Wouldn't mind paying on top of the 40 mil if that means we's have won the title come 2018!

They are using MEN as source for the fee.

Oh I see. I'm not bothered about the fee personally, just wanted clarification. Couldn't care less if it goes to 60-70m as long as he delivers.

Will probably prove to be a functional part of Jose's system, but this summers transfers continue to underwhelm me

These fans nowadays played way too much FIFA and thinks that every team can have 5-6 world class players easily.

It doesn't help that people keep on imagining prices to be pessimistic. Telegraph and Sky both saying 40m fee, yet people will keep on harping about 50m for some reason.

This move will allow Pogba and Herrera to press on and attack with more purpose. This is a much more dynamic midfield than we had with Fellaini or Pogba/Herrera having to sit back when Carrick wasn't playing.

De Gea
Valencia Bailly Lindelof Darmian
Matic
Herrera Pogba
Micky Lukaku Martial

Solid player, who you would expect to settle quickly.

We need a midfield anchor. Matic fits the bill.

He'll quickly prove his worth.

BBC is saying the price is in region of 50m, not =50m. Ducker is saying it's 45m after adds on all paid so no collision here but BBC needs to be more specific next time.

Apparently it's £40 million up front with £10 million as add ons.

My God!

The fact he's picked us over Juventus makes me a massive fan already..

Well if the Di Maria, Falcao, BFS signings that sent this place into ecstasy are anything to go by it's probably a good sign when people are more reserved about new signings...

I'm happy with this.

---Rashford---Lukaku----Mikhitaryan
---------Pogba------Herrera-----
----------------Matic-------------
Shaw-----Rojo-----Baily---Valencia
---------------DDG---------------

That's a pretty damn good team.

What happened to the £10 million Lukaku nicking fee that would've gotten added om according to the all knowing media?

That's true. But genuine wingers in a 4-3-3 is quite a risky approach (as their goal output is not as high). The pressure will then be on Lukaku to score even more. I'm not convinced we need one. There may be a few games in the season where a genuine winger may be a better option but getting someone like Perisic in will not be worth the cost of Martial + Rashfords development!

From Chelsea fan forum:

"This would be a monumental mistake. Firstly, we're short of midfield options ourself, and secondly we would be making United a hell of a lot stronger whilst making ourselves weaker. You really have to wonder what's going on for the board to allow this. If he has to be sold then sell to a completely different country. I'm sure there's other teams out there that are interested in him, it can't just be United"

Chelsea fans not happy at all.
That's a solace to me.
I obviously hope he works out wonderfully for us.
