This is up on bbc sport website now. The headline reads

Nemanja Matic: Man Utd close to signing Chelsea midfielder

He'll bring the right balance to the midfield, I expect we'll play 4-3-3 more this coming season then?

The one transfer I like is the one people don't really like.

British journalists have maintained for months that we wanted Matic or Dier. I guess they aren't completely clueless afterall.

I will try and put this in simple terms Chelsea buy Matic's replacement for 40m he is 22 we buy Matic's for 40m he is 29 next week.
Bakayoko is nowhere as proven as Matic. Also the roles expected from them are totally different. Don't get this comparison at all. Bakayoko is more suited to Contes tactics, while Matic is not. For instance, Bakayoko would not be good in our team, which needs a proper DM. How hard is this to understand ?

United have allowed 1 of there biggest rivals in the country to mug them off lets remember this is a player Chelsea do not want so what do we do we give them 40m for him when they have already bought a replacement for the same money and he is 6 years younger brainless. Fabinho was the 1 for me done well at Monaco played in champions league semi final good age and can also play at right back i think 40m would have got him.
Alright Dave.

I love how there's always some sort of leak with our signings. United are never the first to confirm it

Happy with this signing if it's true. Just the kind of no fuss footballer we need to free up Pogba for a more attacking role if we play a 3 in midfield. Will also allow Herrera to play much higher up the pitch and get the ball back. Sure Jose said last summer he wants his team pressing to get the ball back within seconds to release quick counter attacks. Trusted, knows the PL, knows the boss, knows the players. Ticks more boxes than he doesn't in my opinion.

Also worth noting Chelsea tried to tie him down to a long term deal all last season under Conte. He is not the cast off as some would like to believe.

Without having 1 genuine wide player which worries me a lot. Would not be ideal to move Mikhi to the wings too. Our attack looks as unbalanced as it was before the end of last season tbh

Same as how Rooney, Walker, Sterling, Bale, Modric et all were available.

'Hi is Kroos available?'
'No'
'Oh ok mate, just checking, k thx bye'
Yeah why stop at Kroos though ? Let's get Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo while we are at it.

Best part is all those news we had to pay the lukaku tax and shit and in the end got him for less than the £45m initially reported

Mata was a cast off. Hasn't been too bad IMO.

Looks like a done deal! Fair enough, rather than beating a beating a dead horse we should focus on the positives and what Matic will bring to our team. He will be physically strong, an aerial beast and he has a pile-driver of a left foot. We need that steel in midfield to help us with ball retention, something we are currently not so good at and we struggle with pressing as a result. Of course he also gives Pogba more freedom to roam through midfield so he directly and indirectly improves our team.

I have to say that I'm surprised Chelsea are sanctioning this deal though. They're strengthening a direct rival not to mention we beat them to sign Lukaku. Then again we are paying 40m and I believe his contract runs out in 2019 so I guess it's a good time to cash in on a player deemed surplus to requirements.

There's no point in keeping a player who doesn't want to stay and they're getting rewarded handsomely for it.

From Chelsea fan forum:

"This would be a monumental mistake. Firstly, we're short of midfield options ourself, and secondly we would be making United a hell of a lot stronger whilst making ourselves weaker. You really have to wonder what's going on for the board to allow this. If he has to be sold then sell to a completely different country. I'm sure there's other teams out there that are interested in him, it can't just be United"

Chelsea fans not happy at all.

If zlatan really did sign in January it will be a heck of a tall physical team.

Yes, this is true.
But my friend, being tall and physical is not what we should be aspiring to.
If you look at the top teams in the World, they are (generally) not physical.
We need to focus on players who actually play football, well.

I imagine have Perisic out on the left will help keep the pitch stretched. The right side of our attack has always been drawn infield, with Valencia overlapping.

Not really. Our attack is well balanced now if Matic, Hererra and Pogba are the 3 in midfield. (Which will be the case for most big matches).

Lukaku and 2 of Rashford, Marital, Mata, Lingard, Mhiki and Perierra will give us many options!

You bet they are. They're getting a shed load of cash, AND ensuring one of their biggest would-be rivals will not challenge them.

I'm happy with this deal. We'll get at least four seasons out of what is essentially the closest player available to a Carrick replacement and most importantly, another piece is Jose' jigsaw. I wonder if this is the end of Fellaini?
