It's very simple. Everyone has different opinion on players, just because he is Chelsea fan doesn't make him right. There are Chelsea fans who rates Matic highly. Fir example take Herrera as example, Few ManUtd fans rate him very highly and few think he is just decent.

Agree with you and no, you should never regard someone's opinion as higher than you own because they support that team. There are idiots the world over, and the ones who lead with the 'I'm a fan so I should know' BS are the worst.

Matic is not particularly suited to a two-CM system, but he would fare better with less box-2-box work and focusing more on the holding aspect. Unfortunately playing next to Kante it meant that he needed more attacking responsibility on occasion. Get him mopping up in front of the back line and he is world class. He reads the game extremely well, technically sound and improved his aerial game under Jose. A midfield 3 of Matic, Pogba and Herrera would be great for you.
 
Dier or Matic both played the role that we need for the top 2 last season. Either would be good and I'd like to think we can manage 1 of them.
 
I hope we wrap this up soon enough for him to get used to the team before the new season kicks off. It is absolutely crucial we sign him.

At least he is used to the league and the coaching staff so he should hit the ground running. Perisic on the other hand...

If last season was the only glimpse of a decline, then you'd have a point, but ever since the 5-3? loss at WHL in 2015, he's been on a decline. That was 2 and a half years ago. But I've said as much that if anyone could get the best out of him, it'd be Mourinho with 2 people who can help him cover ground more easily. When Conte was playing 4141 early on, he had Oscar and Matic next to each other with Kante sitting behind. We might never have gone to the 343 if he had made the simpler switch of Kante in front with Matic holding.

But defensively he was mopping up in front of the back line. That's why I'm still posting in this thread, to dispel the myths of Matic.
 
Can't believe Woody hasn't closed this deal, how hard can it be to negotiate with someone who wants to sell!

Haven't seen enough of Matic to comment from last season as I never bothered to pay attention to his general play.

3 of my Chelsea mates all said they'd drive him to Manchester themselves if we came calling, which doesn't fill me with confidence.

Mendy only signed With city today despite that being lined up for months. Transfers are in fact really difficult and take a long time.

Woody is in America for the last bit of the tour there. There is no point in Matic or whoever we sign joining up with the squad there now.

Compared to the shite posted in this thread, absolutely it is. But I can't enjoy educating people on a player you've been heavily linked with? I'd want your POV on a player my club could be purchasing. I only have 5 posts a day on here though, sooo obsessed or want to talk football on a forum that creates good discussions?
 
The more I see people shit on Fellaini more I am a fan of him.

I'm always amazed at all the scouts & championship managers we have in this forum. I mean, how dare a player like Matic even come to us, having been integral player for a team, who has one the league twice, in the past 3 seasons. Jose hasn't got a clue and should listen to the Cafè more.
 
Pogba, Herrera and Matic would be a match for any midfield in the premiership.

Any two of our centre backs with Pogba Matic and Lukaku is such a physically powerful force. Matic may be slow but he is experienced enough and efficient on the ball. He'd be brilliant at plugging the gap between midfield and defence allowing more freedom to our attacking minded players from wingers to even fullbacks. Would love us to sign him.
 
He is obviously a very good defensive midfielder, reads the game, intercepts lots and has excellent distribution, my concern is his mobility and he is not getting any younger, I would prefer somebody who can cover the ground quicker when we are in situations defending counter attacks, it will allow us to commit our attacking players forward more with confidence.
 
Matic, Pogba and Herrera with Carrick, Pereria and Fellaini as back-ups is a quality range of midfield options to be honest.

I cannot understand why people are moaning at this potential signing. Not only is he exactly the kind of player we need but he is a proven champion in the Premier League. The fact Fellaini would surely finally be a back-up would be amazing.

Getting Matic is more important than the winger and Matic would just about complete the midfield for at least this year with Carrick's replacement next year. I think Jose and team have already identified Carrick's potential replacement(s), at least one would hope/think so.

Pogba/Pereira - Herrera/Fellaini- Matic/Carrick

All the players can play as part of a midfield two if they need be with Fellaini and Carrick the ones you want to avoid in that situation.
 
I think i would prefer dier just because he is at a similar level and is at an age where he can improve even further. Also Dier can cover central defense on occasion whenever we have an injury crisis. My preference would be weigl but i think guardiola loves him and he will go for him next year.

He is an excellent link between defence and attack as well. His passing, vision and decision making are very good.
