Nemanja Matic| BBC says deal agreed

Was out last night for my birthday. A complete stunner gave me the eyes at the bar. I'm guessing she was around 25. Had to give her the brush off. I said to myself in 30 years she'll be 55! Lucky escape.

He wasn't influential last season, that is why they are quite happy to get rid of him, he's not athletic and he's slow and barely mobile, Kante just covered so much ground that he could make up for the fact Matic is stationary, buying another slow, immobile CM when we already have two is pointless IMO.

Is it?

The Serb also wants to leave the Premier League champions this summer and is keen to play under his former manager, Mourinho, after not joining the Chelsea squad on tour.
Chelsea are happy to do business with United if they agree on a price and Abramovich has given Matic his blessing to move to Old Trafford, as a reward for the 28-year-old’s part in helping the club lift the title twice in the last three seasons.

The midfielder has made it clear he wants to leave Chelsea and Conte has decided that Matic will be better placed in England to secure a move away, rather than flying with the travelling squad on Monday.

Matic had been hoping to join Manchester United, who remain in the market for a midfielder of his type.

But that is unlikely to stop Matic leaving and sources close to the Serb remain convinced he could still move to United, despite the Lukaku saga making such a transfer seem unlikely.

Despite wanting to leave, Matic attended the first day of pre-season training but spent the afternoon running on his own with a trainer.

Chelsea’s players took that as a sign that Matic will soon by leaving and it now remains to be seen whether or not he goes to United or elsewhere.

But despite Bakayoko’s potential absence at the start of the season, Nemanja Matic is desperate to force his way out of Chelsea. It emerged that Bakayoko’s £35million move from Monaco had been held up by a knee injury that required surgery at the end of last season and a disagreement over the payment structure of the fee.

Matic wants to join Manchester United, but Romelu Lukaku’s move to Old Trafford has complicated that scenario, while Inter Milan have also been credited with an interest in the 28-year-old.

Chelsea have unsuccessfully tried to negotiate a new contract with Matic for the past 18 months, but now seem prepared to cash in and value the player at around £40m.

All from Matt Law's reports for Telegraph. He made it clear more than once that it's Matic who wants out and want to join ManUtd. It's not Chelsea who wants him out as they tried to negotiate new contract which was rejected.

How dare you be factual. It doesn't fit with the doom and gloom merchants narrative that we're buying a Chelsea reject.

He wasn't one of the most influential last year, was one of the worst performers actually. But lets keep making things up to fit your story.

I should probably have written one of the "most involved". That is undebatable. In my opinion, a player that much involved at the centre of the pitch is influential, but I do not see the point in arguing over that.

As I said in another thread, Chelsea fans are delighted we are funding their run on Mendy or Sandro. This literally makes no sense to me

That's just PR guff, like the stuff Chelsea put out once it was clear they weren't getting Lukaku, about him only joining us because of Raiola.

What PR is this when it says player wants to quit Chelsea?

Let's not pretend that we are not concerned about the age. It's not rocket science, this is business. Investing 50m on a soon to be 29 is obviously a bad business. I can understand Jose want to do this on on player but the concerning part is this is happening for perisic as well and one of our young players is rumoured to go the other way.

Make it straight - the problem is not about spending 100m on two average players but we will be forced to be back in the market in 3 years for replacement players who will cost much more than this. And to me , that is not a sustainable business model.

All said, I would be pretty happy about these two signings though.

Matic wouldnt be my first choice, but to say that and honestly believe it is baffling. He obviously would.

Same here, Any signing will improve us at the moment , But how much is dependable on the player.

This is true, however a lot of the people that question the Matic and Perisic signings don't actually have a plausible alternative option. They just say things like "we should throw it all at Dembele", as if it's as easy as that. So it comes across as pointless whinging.

Whut? Are you wumming? Perisic maybe, it's hard to find natural left wingers. But DM? There have been at least 4-5 viable alternatives to Matic mentioned in this thread alone.

I don't think Matic will cost £50m, but it's what Chelsea are briefing that they want. I reckon we can get him for a bit less. I think he would be a good signing, so it's probably better that the £50m fee is banded about on this forum, as fans will be a lot happier if we sign him for less.

This is our PR guff, that was there's, just planting stories in the media to put the spin the situation.

I am curious since Fergie retired all we see is negetive stories about united in the media. Why is Our PR gone stale and letting this happen.

All this talk about him improving us. By that do you mean going from sixth to fifth?

I am curious since Fergie retired all we see is negetive stories about united in the media. Why is Our PR gone stale and letting this happen.

Two main reasons are that we were constantly successful under Fergie and he was respected and feared in England, since he went it's been open season on United for all the years they held back due to fergie.

 You don't have a clue.

Yeah, how could I question the integrity of an English journo, Matic is dying to leave the Champions to come to a team that has scraped 4th once in the last 4 seasons, and Chelsea are desperate to keep him as he's so good....I would say your post applies more to you. :wenger:

So We were too dependent on fergie and are now without a Plan for the future without fergie.

No he wants to leave Chelsea to join the biggest and most successful club in the country. Stop being so fecking miserable.

Chelsea are not desperate to keep him, Matic wants out and Roman is ready to sell him for the price set by him.

You made a rubbish point and now all over the place when proven false as reported by Matt Law.

He would not improve us much at this point.
we have no DM. So yes I would say he would massively improve us. Imagine playing 4 3 3 and

a) not having to use fellaini in a 433
b) not having to use Herrera as a #6
c) having a Pogba free from alot of defensive duties
d) having him come on to keep hold of a lead in massive games

that imo massively improves us. is he the best DM in the world no. Does he have his issues yes. But he's a player that we need. And before you run and say Fabinho this or Verratti that they are clearly not avail or would have been sold already as massive clubs like us were in for them and were told to feck off. At least Chelsea are entertaining the idea of selling him.

Hey, as I said previously in this thread, if Matic and Perisic are our only other signings of the summer we ain't finishing in the top four.

We finished 6th due to lack of balance which resulted in attacking united being blunt as a whole unit and too many home draws which took points off us. We were 25 undefeated. If the balance is fixed the draws will be converted into wins Out of 15 draws if we win 10 of them we straight away get 20 points more which would have put us in title race straight away.

Van Persie joined United when he was 29 years old. We won the title with his help. Thank god good managers don't think like some of you cnuts on here.
I agree with your point about age, but tbf RVP was coming off a better season than Matic is. The only worry I had about RVP was injury (well, that and the fact that we kept signing strikers but no midfielders!). Matic would be fine but if its at a price that prevents us making any more signings this summer, then I don't think he's worth it.

I think as fans we should be least worried about price. The market has changed and has gone batshit crazy, but there's a reason for that - teams are earning more revenue.
