If we pay 50m for a 28 year old Matic we really have lost the plot

29 year old and he will be 32 in 2 years time, crazy shit. Rather add 20 more mil or more and go for Dier, who is English which is huge bonus.

He will be 35 in 5 years. Crazy. Rather stick to Carrick.

Amazing how much of an impact FIFA has on how people rate players in real life. Being quite slow and almost 29 means Magic is pretty much finished in a FIFA career mode and people genuinely seem to translate that into real life and ignore the fact that he was a key part of the title winning side in two of the last three seasons.

He's not even 29 yet and he's 32 in 2 years?

This modern insecurity about age is weird. It's as though every player is finished post their 25th birthday. Experience is a great quality.

Crazy how we are paying 63m pounds for a 33yr old.

It is not just his age. It is the fact that he has already shown serious signs of decline.

Matic and Pogba would be extremely powerful combo that could go through whole season without too many stops for a rest.

From last season. Granted youtube vids make everyone look good, but if this was a player we were linked with that we didn't know much about I think people would have a much different opinion.

Nothing new in that vid. He's got a very accurate left foot and can pick a pass. He's a quick thinker and also tactically very aware. He's still a very good DLP, undoubtedly. But the rest of his game is not really exciting and you can kinda see his decline.

He has effectively stopped tackling and getting "stuck in" like he definitely used to, you can even see that form the video. And he never has the turn of speed to chase down or get away from a player, like Yaya did/does for example. Or that bit of trickery some players like Busquets have to escape a situation.

It feels to me like we're basically signing a Michael Carrick circa 2012. Still a very good midfielder but not amazing and not the force he once was. That's the feeling I have with him. He's not gonna decline remarkably fast or anything, I don't believe that, but he'll decline year on year based on the trajectory he's been on. Like Carrick did from 2012 onwards.

Watch Fabinho highlights to see probably one of the best tacklers in his position at the moment, with speed, agility and athleticism and also a very accurate right foot (set piece taker for Monaco, after all). Not as good at play making as Matic yet, the Serb is more probing and quicker to spot a pass. But he's only 23 on his first full season in midfield. I just wish we'd throw £40-£45m at Monaco and be done with it.

Even more on?

The irony here is that despite Chelsea having obviously given up on him staying (hence no pre-season) and having already purchased a replacement and the player wanting to leave... we'll still managed to get fleeced.

As if there aren't any other options for us in the market and instead there are many teams who'd pay that kinda money for Matic.

I don't really see any comparison between him and Alonso/Carrick, both were cultured Deep lying playmakers who used the ball superbly in setting the tempo for the team, they were also more mobile than Matic who is practically a statue at this point.

He might be built like Ibra but just like Ibra his mobility is poor and unlike Ibra he's not athletic so he can't make up for it, he moves like a tanker and can't cover the ground to protect a back 4 anymore, he'd just be another grotesque waste of money IMO and another player whose limitations force Herrera and Pogba to curtail their game to operate as legs for someone else.

This attitude surprise me. Nemanja Matic not athletic? Wow! "Can't cover ground" and "moves like a tanker". This is one of the most influential players in two PL-winning sides in the prior three years.

Furthermore, I don't agree Xabi or Carrick was more mobile than Matic. Better playmakers, but I struggle to ser Carrick do the job Matic did with success this year exactly because of his mobility.

I think some of you are in for a surprise.

Roman will laugh all the way to the bank. Don't get me wrong, he's a good defensive midfielder but certainly not worth £50m especially at his age.

0 resale value, already signs of a decline.

This transfer is a must for Mou. He must win the league this season or next at a stretch hence these kind of transfers.

He wasn't influential last season, that is why they are quite happy to get rid of him, he's not athletic and he's slow and barely mobile, Kante just covered so much ground that he could make up for the fact Matic is stationary, buying another slow, immobile CM when we already have two is pointless IMO.

I know you rate him - but don't exaggerate...

That has nothing to do with his mobility or stamina though. Kante was doing all the chasing and harassing in that midfield. It wasn't Matic.

I actually rate him highly as a playmaker. Not far from Carrick/Xabi Alonso player imo.

He wasn't one of the most influential last year, was one of the worst performers actually. But lets keep making things up to fit your story.

The influence of the ABU media... All these articles about how Matic is scared of Bakayoko taking his place etc is just the PR spin and team planning that happens to every player who wanted to leave the year before they actually leave. Every club does it and its far more common than people realize.
Matic wanted to join us last summer but wasn't allowed to. Kante covers more ground but Matic is just as important to the team and they would not be signing Bakayoko if Matic was to stay. A Matic Pogba parternship would be the best in the PL and Chelsea know it.

Talking of PR spin, you sound like his agent or Dad, I don't take any notice if the media's opinions and puff pieces designed with agenda, I just comment based on the player I have seen with my own eyes, and Matic was easily the weakest link in that Chelsea team last year, it's why they are fine with selling him to us, if they thought he was a genuine threat they would simply hold him to his contract or drop the fee for Juve. Also if he comes it would have to be a midfield 3 as Herrera will need to do all of Matic's running like Kante did.

Nonetheless, it proves that people can be right when they question the manager's decisions. Which makes the argument that we should all blindly agreee with whatever Mourinho does quite obviously a silly one.

This is true, however a lot of the people that question the Matic and Perisic signings don't actually have a plausible alternative option. They just say things like "we should throw it all at Dembele", as if it's as easy as that. So it comes across as pointless whinging.
