What I meant by working out well, is that he's integrated well and has become a solid and reliable player for us, he's a fan favourite and seems happy, I hope that clears things up. Basing league finishes on one player is ludicrous.

He hasn't been that impressive though. He's been alright - not our worst player for sure but Chelsea did much better after getting rid of him. Two titles and much more pace while we slowed down considerably after signing Mata and Fellani.

I would've preferred Fabinho but I think Matic can do a job. He's quite limited but we need numbers in the midfield as much as anything. He knows the league so that's a bonus I guess.

One thing I love about United fans is that despite the varying views on Matic. Despite many people saying buying him will be a bad move and that he is a poor player, once the guy signs up for the club, almost everyone will get solidly behind him.

See this is what I was talking about earlier-Matic's tackling numbers are absolutely shocking now and have been shocking for some time now since Ashley fecking Barnes nearly shattered his leg. He just doesn't put his legs in compromising positions anymore. This is a man who averaged nearly SIX tackles per 90 in 2014/15.

If I were a United fan that's what would concern me above all else-age ain't nothing but a number, but it's the decline of his actual numbers on the pitch that's most problematic.

I added carrick in, he is no improvement over carrick

Matic can definitely do a job for us as the deepest CM. Not my first choice option but Jose seems keen and he's obtainable.

I can't deny the fact Chelsea are much more pacey than us, Fellaini is just Fellaini - something I try to forget about. I feel he's been solid, and never angrily sigh when I see him on the lineup (something I do with Fellaini).

I just think this thread is turning into a bit of a hysterical joke. People are losing their shit by the minute. Matic is definitely not my first choice, but if it's who Jose wants, then he knows what he needs and what Matic offers. He certainly has cons (slow, lacks creativity at times) but he has pros (experienced for younger players, knows EPL, worked with Jose before).

The guy needs a chance. If he turns out to be shit, then I've no problem with folk going mental.

In my view this transfer is far from ideal partciularly with other players available. Potentially ending the window with morata, matic, perisic and lindelof is not going to win us the league. We looked out of ideas in our attacking play for a number of games last season and these signings will do nothing to change that. Matic is not a game changer the fact Chelsea are willing to let him go and feel better replacements are available for lower fees is not a great sign. Many will point to the Mata signing but that was due to a player not fitting in with a managers style however in Matic's case they are simply upgrading.

according to key stats, he adds nothing over carrick. while i completely agree we have no say in this and i'll back him if he joins. Shouldn't we be trying to improve on a end of career carrick?

'Don't read too much into stats' etc etc, but that tackles won stat is hilarious

The mistake that a lot of people make is putting his three seasons as a sum and saying he was decent overall. Rooney also had a good United career overall, but his last 4 seasons were dogshit. Matic's last 2 seasons were poor. He started for Chelsea, just like Rooney started for us last season, but he is easily replaceable, as we see right now at the first opportunity (Bakayoko). It is not just a blip in form, Matic is slowly regressing and doubts remain if Mourinho can get the best out of him at this stage now.

It's also generally accepted that Matic is passed his peak, especially by CHELSEA FANS. But what would they know? Let's refer to an arbitrary time window to be safe.
Yet JOSE MOURINHO, a man who has worked with him intimately for a number of years, thinks he's good enough to take us to the next level. But logic is overrated, right?

Meh...the amount of 'big name' signings we've had that people have jizzed over and have turned out wank recently. Would be good to actually try and get players to fit a working system.

Agreed. People were saying that Zlatan was passed his best and he pretty much saved our season. Pogba was having people in orgasms but had a tough first season in relation to expectation. Mourinho is not stupid, knows him well and obviously has a plan for how to use him within the team. If it happens, I really hope the disgruntled fans on here give him a chance and back him.

People are not going Mental over matic as per say, they are having problems with united not being intrested in fabinho much more. no one knows the exact situation.

Seems to have momentum this one. Perhaps not the most exciting of signings, but if it frees Pogba to drive forward then it'll improve us.

Mourinho commented on the way he handled him, ie relegating him to the reserves. He didn't say he should have kept him or played him more.

Personally I'm not entirely blown away by Fabinho, so i disagree again. It'd be far more convinced of what we were getting with Matic who i believe still has a lot to offer. Some of the comments regarding him on here have been way wide of the mark, to the point I'm convinced some probably have never really seen him play.

This.

Who said that? Zlatan scored 50 goals his last season in Paris.

Yeah, I mean if it's true that Mourinho is not interested in Fabinho there must be reasons. He's a dam good manager whose pretty shrewd at buying players and perhaps feels he doesn't suit his plan within the context of the players he wants to use and way he wants to play. We just don't know yet.

I think we'd struggle to get top 4 tbh. Our squad has 0 killers and we have the works flanks in the top 6, a solid core isn't enough against the bus parkers of the league. We don't look like addressing our biggest problem from last season, goals.

In a way I agree with that, BUT - we do have some young talented players. Another season of: experience under their belts,
gelling with each other; and
working with Jose, would IMO improve our killer instinct.

People thinking he'll free up Pogba clearly didn't watch him last season, he's an oil tanker that will require Pogba to sit deep and cover his grass.

Probably one or two posters always have to complain about something. We also got Zlatan on a free on a one year contract, there were almost zero risks.

I think some wanted us to build around Rashford I do not think anyone was saying he was past it.

Is it possible Matic was our second or third choice, reports indicated we tried for Babayako but it is obvuous he wants Chelsea so hence the bid fir Matic.

To be fair he is a decent player and will be interesting what the actual fee will be, i guess anything above £30m will be disappointing.

Won the title with 93 points, Owned each and every midfeild in the new system, except at oldtrafford. He will be a good fit for sure, But i prefer we sign both including fabinho and sell fellani.
