I agree with you mate.
Juventus bought Pirlo at age 32. He gave them four incredible seasons while mentoring and inspiring young lads like Paul Pogba.
Who knows, maybe it'll turn out to be a brilliant signing (if it happens). But as it stands - it feels just incredibly lazy of the Ed's camp to sign Jose's ex-player for this amount of money. Hopefully, I'll be proven wrong.

When did the internet decide Nemanja Matic is rubbish? I can remember a time when the CAF loved Matic. In fact it was only two years ago that, on this very message board, people would declare Matic one of the best holding players in the game. When did he lose his rep? He's just won the title with Chelsea for the second time in three years, and for most of the season he was keeping Cesc out of the first XI. So when did it become a thing to say we should aim higher than Matic?
I do not know if there is truth in the rumours or not. However, if we do sign Matic I won't be complaining. He knows our league inside out, he's shown he can win in our league, and he is undoubtedly a very good holding player. I genuinely don't see what there is to dislike about this move. Is it just the fee?

No way, in form he's better than Herrera both as #6 and as attacking #8 in 4-3-3. Overall, again, depending on form, he'll top Herrera in a midfield two with Pogba. He's a very slow starter, so if we're out to get him we have to do it before pre-season.

Jackson and Ogden have awful track records. Ogden seemed to have sources at the club under Moyes but doesn't anymore and Jackson is a joke for good reason. I suspect if you look at their articles last summer you'd be impressed at how wrong they both were about who we were signing then.
There are good United journalists out there (Ducker for one and Castles with Mourinho as manager for another) but these two aren't them. Maybe I'm wrong and we will sign Matic within hours but I find it very hard to believe anything this pair say.

I dont agree with this but thats by-the-by, Herrera will still get plenty of game-time as he's a different player to Matic. Matic is surely a replacement for Fellaini.

We've finished 7th, 4th, 5th and 6th in the league since but yeah.
For some weird reason we'd probably finish higher next season than we have since 2013. We've had 3 successive summer windows which at the time were hailed as the best ever, only to be followed by underwhelming seasons. In a perverse way it could be that signing 4 unsexy workhorse type players are exactly the ones needed to do the much needed leg work and actually put in some welcome effort and graft which sees us become a more balanced side overall.
I cant pretend that names like Matic and Perisic excite me. But if this is who Jose wants he should get them

I feel that you can't judge this transfer alone until you've seen the full window. If he's a squad filler then you can make a case that he's a good option to have, he's had his moments at Chelsea for sure, and he's used to winning. If he looks like he makes it into your best 11 come the end of the window then it's probably hard to get really excited about.
Either way from Chelsea it's smart business to walk away with north of £35m for Matic. But that doesn't make it an immediately bad buy for United.

The 3 defenders didn't help him against the likes of Ozil and Eriksen and Kante, contrary to popular opinion, is only one person.
What I meant by working out well, is that he's integrated well and has become a solid and reliable player for us, he's a fan favourite and seems happy, I hope that clears things up. Basing league finishes on one player is ludicrous.

How can ppl compare Matic to Pirlo? Pirlo is a deep lying playmaker; not a destroyer. You can buy those kinds of players at 35 and they'll do a job.

Meh...the amount of 'big name' signings we've had that people have jizzed over and have turned out wank recently. Would be good to actually try and get players to fit a working system.
