Mourinho does know better. He's actually managed bith players too which gives an even better insight for him. Whatever he does, whether that is sign Fabinho or Matic, I will be willing to give them a chance as I trust Jose and can see the benefit of bith players. I suspect that Matic will be a gatekeeper for the likes of Fosu Mensah or Tuanzebe for a few years.

Don't really get the hate here. Defense wasn't a big problem for us last season, despite the limitations of the players we tried in deep midfield, so I don't see that we need some world class figure in there to completely change our fortunes (like we probably do up front tbh). To my mind he ticks enough boxes - he's proven in this league, he's better than what he's replacing (Carrick and Fellaini), he knows the manager and he can fit into enough midfield combinations to let us play a few different formations well. £40M is stupid (if true) but its more a reflection of the transfer market than the player.

Wouldn't Chelsea be a tad short of CM options if they let Matic go?
I know they are signing Bakayoko, but Bakayoko, Kante and Fabregas isn't much depth, and neither Chabolah or Loftus Cheek have played much in the first team under Conte.

We all have eyes, we all knew schweinstiger was beyond his peak. The fact is though, a lot of us thought he had value to add when used sparingly, and didn't like the idea that he got dropped without a proper reason. Mourinho actually conceded to agree, so I don't know why you're still claiming there's actually a point to bolster your argument with when referring to him.
Back to Matic, all of us want to give him a chance. Don't confuse our eyebrow raising with an unwillingness to accept he can be good for us. Every single fan here will support him and will give him as much chance as any other signing to impress. The fact is though, we know he's declined and he doesn't look as good as Fabinho, so we will have our reservations. The logic that we shouldn't highlight them because Mourinho knows better is just daft. You may as well stop discussing football related matters all together.
Looks like this one will stain the bowl permanently. Let's pray to God we at least sign the upgraded version of Perisic whoever that may be.

I really rate Matic though - don't know which Chelsea games the caf has been watching if any. Having said that, hope we sign both him and Fabinho.

There's a reason Matic is Chelsea's highest rated CM on squawka (yes above Kante). Plus he will hopefully give us extra aerial protection given his height. He's a very tidy player and his loss would massively weaken Chelsea.

Personally I'm not entirely blown away by Fabinho, so i disagree again. It'd be far more convinced of what we were getting with Matic who i believe still has a lot to offer. Some of the comments regarding him on here have been way wide of the mark, to the point I'm convinced some probably have never really seen him play.
I think we'd struggle to get top 4 tbh. Our squad has 0 killers and we have the works flanks in the top 6, a solid core isn't enough against the bus parkers of the league. We don't look like addressing our biggest problem from last season, goals.
All we needed to do was get a DM that is mobile and can coiver the ground in behind Pogba if we weren't going for a DLP, and instead we get a guy that is neither, just a big immobile sloth who's best days are behind him, and Chelsea will laugh all the way to the bank.

Signing two 29 year olds in Matic & Perisic is literally the worst summer you can have after qualifying for UCL. If that's the case, what is the alternative list that Jose gave had we qualified for Europa? Joey Barton & Wilf Zaha?
At the end of last season Chelsea played better with Kante and Pizzaboy than they did when Matic played.
We rely on Mourinho to get 200% out of these players, because we won't have anywhere near the best team on paper this year.
One World class attacking player could change that though.
