How much success have we had since he came to us? We've made alot of mistakes in he market since then, hardly great competition of players for him eh? He was hailed as a superstar on the caf with a superstar reception (ddg and herrera standing next to a heartshaped helipad waiting for his landing in james bond suit and sunglasses), reality is he's not a player that can get us to the absolute top again as we have seen.

He was anonymous in that game. Just saying. We shouldn't make this a Mata debate but I have to agree he's not a title winning/champions league finalist number 10. Everyone that follows us deep down knows it. But top 4 team perfect.

Not winning the league or CL isn't a fault of one player, or you then consider Zlatan and Pogba not a successful signing because they finished 6th with us last season ?

Winning the league needs a system connecting players that link with each other well not just a fault of one player here and there. Mata did his job with us perfectly and I can't blame him for anything.

Anyway it's up to you.

Still a CL win and that's what counts for them, and still he was a starter in this team.

So we're moving from him being a starter to him being anonymous in the game or not ? He was a starter in a CL winning team and that deprives this point.

Those are the facts yeah, let me word it in another way, if we want to become elite like Real, Barcelona, Bayern, Mata wont be good enough in the long term even though he's one of our better players momentarily. Got too little to his game, no pace, no strength, no dribble and beating a player and he's more tidy and neat than really creative. Very good finisher though but wont ever be prolific enough to be a second striker either. Nice player to have a team but also not a game changer.

Not all players have to be pacey and dribbling all the time to be considered a great one. Have said this point a lot in James but it seems there's a general idea here that pace is a key element in any great player.

Clubs letting important players run down to two years? Yeah fairly normal, negotiations tend to start with two years left.

Clearly though Matic isn't a pivotal player. He wouldn't be for us either. We would have to pay upwards of £80m for a pivotal player from Chelsea.
 
Anyway, I don't believe we are signing Matic at all so we're fine. ESPN article from a has been who has lost his source at United.
 
Dont want him. He should be our 5th target for that position, and not in the top 2 or whatever he is. He hasnt been very good for quite some time, his legs will be completely gone in 2 or 3 years, thats just the way it is with big midfield players in the PL

Exactly. So why should I be excited about buying a meh player from chelsea doing a meh role for us?

Chelsea know what they are selling and we are buying someone to do a job. Again. Too many job doing players just might have been the reason why we are so far away from the top you know.

Is there any chance we wanna sign Matic and another midfielder, like Fabinho? Then get rid of someone like Fellaini.

Maybe Mickhi.

Matic if he will be signed will do a job, a job of a DM. In that position he was pretty good. I mean he doesn't need to be flashy and sexy, a job to do is nothing strange.

Not every player is suited to all managers. Matic may be better utilised under Mourinho than under Conte.

But, there is other midfielders we can get who are much better at doing that job. They are also younger so they could do that job for a longer period.

Did I say it was about his buys last season? We simply have too many of those players in our squad. Darmian, Mkhi, Lingard, Smalling, Jones, Blind, Carrick. Rojo has been a revelation but he still has to show it wasn't a purple patch. We have too many of these and say that hypothetically we want to add Perisic and Matic to that.

Screams work horse squad to me.

Let's hope that season where he flopped together with the rest of the chelsea squad was an anomaly then.

Either Jose knows why he wants exactly Matic or he's crazy and he'll be a terrible signing.

Or maybe we're not buying him at all.

I agree there are better options but Matic is hardly that bad people are portraying him to be.

When Chelski won the title in 2015 he was immense and I always did rate him he would definitely be an upgrade to our midfield for a few years at least proven premier league winner knows how mourinho likes to play so gotta say id be happy enough with Matic as our DM freeing up Pogba and to a lesser extent Herrera, looks good on paper anyway.
 
Matic, Herrera, Pogba midfield sounds very good imo. Also we have Pereira coming back, most people forget that.
