People here also do not want a consistent starter on the team that finished second.

We do have some shocking posters.

So far I've seen people dismissing Dier and Matic.
Saying Bale isn't worth it.
Saying Ronaldo isn't worth it.

It's a hard climate then to say who would be worth it!

Marotta may ask for Matic as a partial cash rebate for Alex Sandro, some insiders are saying here in Italy.

Tbf Chelsea winning the league doesn't automatically mean that each one of their regular starters would improve us. It's not much of an argument in anyone's favour really.

Could work in our favour, maybe Fabhino was 3rd on Jose's list, but Dier and Matic are sadly out of reach..

Only difference is you know Mourinho is a winner, and Moyes would still have won jack sh!t even if we'd signed Fabregas, Bale and Ronaldo that first summer.

I can't disagree with that brother!

Matic is 6"4. We really are a team of giants if we add him.

De Gea - 192cm
Valencia - 180cm
Bailly - 187cm
Lindelof - 187cm
Rojo - 187cm
Phil Jones -180cm
Chris Smalling - 193cm
Axel Tuanzebe - 185cm
Darmian - 182cm
Luke Shaw - 185cm
TFM - 185cm
Carrick - 188cm
Herrera - 182cm
Fellaini - 194cm
Pogba - 191cm
Matic? - 194cm
Martial - 184cm
Marcus Rashford - 180cm - I don't think that's right. There is a picture of Rashford beside Henry who is apparently 188cm where rashford is taller. I'd say he's more around - 186cm.
Morata? - 189cm
Perisic? - 187cm

We've got a couple of halflings in Mata and Mkhitaryan but if we have that squad next season we would really be a team of giants. Proper Jose team.

Javier Ribalta is.

Luke Shaw is taller than Phil Jones? Really? So is Herrera? Surely not.

Goodbye greasy persistent Matic rumors. We are so getting Fappinho!!

Bit small for Man Utd CBs. Ferdinand and Vidic were 1.89m and 1.90m respectively. Stam was 1.91m. For Mourinho CBs, it's about right though. For example, Terry and Carvalho were 1.87m and 1.83m respectively.

Ferdinand is well over 1.90, another case of player height documented wrongly. He is also taller than Vidic as nearly any picture or video with them together in whatever perspective you want will show you.

Off topic but this has been a pet peeve for me for a while now. Carrick used to be 1.83 as well until the official united site wised up.

I have not watched him enough.
Is he
1) A taller and more defensive minded version of Herrera
2) A more mobile version of Carrick
or something else all together?

Di Marzio's group of journos reporting again today that talks are ongoing for Fabinho. This one seemingly has no legs to it, or never had legs. Might be time to shut up shop until something else breaks?

Personally, I'd be very happy if we fooled Chelsea into giving us Matic as they 'upgrade' him with Bakayoko. By mid season they'd be cursing.....
From what people are saying Bakayoko haven't been impressive so maybe he's not really better that what they already have?

I really wouldn't get excited about Matic. He's an average player at best in my opinion. Would rather see money spent strengthening other areas.

One argument I'm finding hilarious on here is 'If team X doesn't want the player, we shouldn't either'. It totally ignores the obvious fact our needs aren't theirs.

Yep. Most ludicrously seen when it's Real Madrid, a squad packed with terrific players.

Instead people would prefer to see us plunder the likes of Everton, despite criticising us doing just such a thing with Fellaini

Out of position? The guy has played there for the most of his career, now he's out of position if he plays right-back? You people…

You're right, that was poorly worded - not out of position (as you point out, he's played RB for longer than CM) - but I've been far more impressed by him as a CM and given what we need I think it'd be a waste to sign Fabinho and not use him in the centre. Of course, having options and flexibility in the squad is always good - but I'd rather sign Fabinho for CM and a dedicated RB to support Valencia

I understand your point, but unless we're getting rid of Young, it seems like a luxury to go for Fabinho and Semedo (for instance) this summer.

1 - i'm lazy to check stats now but i would not be surprised if Herrera had better defensive numbers than him.
In fact, anytime you look into stats you realize that Herrera is kind underrated by fans.

2 - He's close to Carrick in theory, but he is not that mobile tbh... has a very good positional sense, a good shot, his passing is decent, he is a winner, and should be rated higher imo.

The fact that Conte apparently want to replace him with Bakayoko is probably due to the adaptation to Chelsea/Conte style, more than an upgrade in individual quality; i dont think Bakayoko is better than Matic at all.

Get both Matic and Fabinho, we need depth in the midfield. We'll likely play maybe even more games than last season. And just take a look at december/january fixtures congestion due to World Cup...

Much clloser to Carrick than Herrera. Mobility certainly isn't one of his strengths though.

That would be my thinking. We are short in midfield - look what happened when Pogba was injured. Players need rest and Jose needs to rotate a bit more. Plus these two would give greater tactical flexibility.

Anybody that eats into Carrick and Fellaini's playing time next season is alright by me.

I think the main issue we had during Pogba's injury layoff, was a total lack of creativity in central midfield - our passing game simply collapsed. I agree we need more depth, but two #6s seems overkill - I'd much rather see a #6 and a #8, with the latter to rotate/compete with Pogba and Herrera.

Allow me to interfere. I agree on your point overall, Pogba has no pure replacement in the team and it sucks, but I think if Mata was present at this time, the things would have been much brighter for us that that dull pathetic looking of the midfield. Mata and Pogba are our most creative players from the center of the field and losing both at the same time was terrible.

I think we can do next season when needed to rest Pogba by playing Fabinho, Herrera with Mata, Mikhi and Perisic in front of them and a striker. That can compensate to some extent in Pogba's absence.

But it's still better to get another number 8, for sure.

Imagine a Matic Fellaini centre mid.
I bet we'd still hardly score from a set piece though

Our main issue was we had no midfielders. This is Jose, pragmatism above all else. Two DM are better than one. Chelsea one the Premiership with this approach. I am not saying it is right, or acceptable, but Jose has form here.

Ogden, who i think is a decent journo says we are close to signing him for 40m.

Matic Fellaini Rooney midfield 3

I'll wont be happy with Matic, Fabinho is there for the taking he's younger and a all round better player who will cost the same money. It's madness if we dont get Fabinho, he's begging to join as well.

Expecting other English journos to run with this soon if true so let's see.

I'm happy with Matic. I don't really think we need a dynamic sittiing third in a midfield 3.
I never got the hype about Fabinho. I never looked at Monaco and craved their defensive structre..
