Nemanja Matic| BBC says deal agreed

Of course Matic wants to join us - we're probably the biggest name club who'd be interested in him at this stage in his career and he's clearly surplus to requirements at Chelsea.

matic is a quality player and exactly the type of player we need.
It's as if he hasn't been a key player in 2 premier league title wins.

Mourinho's teams are always far bigger than individuals - it's a machine that relies on everyone doing their job (Pats fan).

considering the last time the club briefed was to basically confirm Griezmann was not coming, I'd imagine this one is dead until we get a proper BBC update.

Fabinho is the only one with a good source backing it now.

In a midfield 2 Herrera > Fabinho > Matic
In a midfield 3 as DM Fabinho > Matic > Carrick > Herrera

And Fabinho is cheaper than Matic if reports are correct.

I'd still go for Paredes who is cheaper and the better passer.

You can say that but these are facts:

Fellaini:
84 games for Standard, scored 12 goals and provided 6 assists
177 games for Everton, scored 33 goals and provided 26 assists
133 games for United, scored 15 goals and provided 9 assists
77 caps for Belgium, scored 16 goals

Total: 471 games, 76 goals and 41 assists

Average per game is: 0.16 goals and 0.09 assists

Matic:
29 games for Vitesse, scored 2 goals and provided 3 assists
56 games for VSS Kosice, scored 3 goals and provided 2 assists
97 games for Benfica, scored 9 goals and provided 1 assists
154 games for Chelsea, scored 7 goals and provided 20 assists
31 caps for Serbia, scored 1 goal

Total: 367 games, 22 goals and 26 assists

Average per game is: 0.06 goals and 0.07 assists

But keep pretending Matic is far superior to Fellaini in offence. The career stats tell a totally different story but who cares about facts right ?

No to turn this into a Fellaini bash but 133 games for United

The best players for a team are not always the best players.

IF, and it's a big IF, Jose thinks Matic and Perisic will best execute his title winning plans, then Matic and Perisic might just be the best players to get. If Jose gets it wrong, then his reputation takes a hit and he'll probably end up getting fired someday.

When was the last time he got two transfers wrong in one window?

make you wonder if Matic/Dier were on the Europa list (easy buys that add to the squad)? and now journo's are just milking clicks by using some of the names?

I'm not sure about Dier as he's young and English and owned by Levy so he would never be easy, but Matic definitely feels like a Europa signing option.

When was the last time he got two transfers wrong in one window?
2015/2016 with Chelsea: Abdul Baba Rahman and Asmir Begovic.
2014/2015 with Chelsea: Filipe Luis and Juan Cuadrado

Baba Rahman and Papy Djilobodji count?

2015/2016 with Chelsea: Abdul Baba Rahman, Pappy Djilobodji, and Asmir Begovic

To be fair Djilobodji was clearly a player he did not want, he was signed by the board wasn't he?

Begovic was one of the best back-up keepers around and Baba Rahman didn't work out but I remember people on here saying we should've been in for him at the time.

£40 million is the figure being reported (which is most likely journalistic bullshit).
Good lord. We could easily have Fabinho for that price. £40m for Matic would feel worse than £27.5m for Fellaini IMO. Horribly uninspiring signing.

Pogba is great for attacking. Seems you haven't been watching us. Pogba would have 15 assists or more had Ibra and others decided to put away some of his final balls.

I have watched every game we played, Pogba is a great player but he is not a 10. And it is not so simple to say he would have had 15 assists if our attackers had put away some of his balls. There are alot of possible reasons those balls were not converted to goals, our striker being bad is just one of them and it also the easiest one. Reality is he had 9 goals and 6 assists and that is pretty lame for a worldclass n10.

Also putting the same forwards infront of Pogba and hopping next year it will all be better would just be absolute lame management. There is a reason we are lacking for goals, forcing Pogba to play as a 10 in a MF 3 whilst he isn't a 10 is one of them.

But, with Chelsea aren't they all Emenalo signings?
True and you can see that Conte was also having issues with their transfer operations as early as January. But in this case Mourinho admitted that he didn't know the player at all.

he was shite, many of Chelsea's fans really happy when Bournemouth bought him.

Chelsea fans really got on Matic's back last season. So slow.

I don't think you want him

But if Jose wants him, that's what really matters. It will be up to him to prove himself.

And up to Jose to make sure the signing and player is a success at the club.

I hope Chelsea keep him and Jose gets/has some better ideas on how to improve us.

You can't know there is a 'better' idea or not yet. Let him buy who he wants to buy. We'll judge by the middle or end of next season. Fortunately, results don't often lie.

For now, I am more than willing to trust the judgement of a manager who has proven to be one of the very best in the business and who has an incredible second season record when it comes to building winning teams.

I can't. Neither can Jose. That's the point of having an opinion. I trust the manager but not blindly. If I don't like who he is signing I'll express it. I can't be positive or excited at signings/potential because of Jose.

Maybe Mourinho wants to self destruct by signing these shit players this window.

I don't think I have ever known a transfer window where the managers priority signings have been so uninspiring.

Even that twat Moyes went full muppet and chased Bale and Fabregas like a dog chasing his tail :D

You're not allowed one, apparently.

Matic is 6"4. We really are a team of giants if we add him.

Except for at the back, weirdly, where nobody can really head the ball. I was sure Mourinho (of all people) would go for a tall, aerially dominant centreback this summer... Anyway, as you say, we could potentially field a Matic - Pogba - Fellaini midfield 3 at some point next season... looks like a basketball team.

Please dont be true. Matic is not good enough. Imagine Matic and Perisic. Talk about uninspiring.

We won't be getting much change out of £100 million for the two of them as well.

Mourinho is putting himself under a hell of a lot of pressure next season if these rumoured transfers become reality.

He's at his fecking peak!

Only difference is you know Mourinho is a winner, and Moyes would still have won jack sh!t even if we'd signed Fabregas, Bale and Ronaldo that first summer.

A guy who was a consistent starter for the champions isn't good enough for a team that finished 6th.
Alright then.
