Would be very disappointed with this signing on a lot of levels.
Can't blame people for feeling this way. Matic is a very unsexy player who sticks to the basics.Would be very disappointed with this signing on a lot of levels.
Not exotic enough. He was praised here not so long ago but today he's not good enough and he's boring and whatnot. Can't blame people for feeling this way. Matic is a very unsexy player who sticks to the basics.
A solid and main stay of two title winning side here, though, so I'm not sure why United fans don't want him.

You just can't take a different view. And for the record both the players you listed are shit and thankfully we are not linked to those level of players. So pick another argument.I swear we could be linked to Borini and Rodwell and some will use the same argument, "Oh, he's a player that fits into Jose's plans, he'll bring balance, he's hardworking, who needs all those FM/FIFA players?"
We finished 6th, crawled over the CL line. We need quality players if we ever dream of going back to the top.
Matic wasn't really a DM for us this last season either. Both he and Kante were essentially box to box mids. Matic got forward quite a bit and racked up a nice assist total. Not sure you'll put him up for sale even if you sign Bakayoko, Bakayoko is supposed to be more a b2b and not a dedicated DM like Matic.
Hope there is nothing to it since imo we can do better for the price you'd demand from a PL rival. Nearly £40m on a 29 year old Matic isn't tempting.

As for Matic the only thing I'm against the signing is his age. 29 next August and would cost a lot. I would rather have Fabinho. But he's a good player. Won the league twice in the last 3 years playing regularly at the heart of Chelsea's midfield. Hardly Borini/Rodwell level or squad level like O'Shea was for us.
The answer is there in your post. Will be 29 in August. That and there's a few new shiny toys out there at the minute like Bakayoko and Fabinho. Can't blame people for feeling this way. Matic is a very unsexy player who sticks to the basics.

I don't know. We've shown recently that we have no issue selling good players to teams that can harm us. Mata, Cech, Lukaku...The answer is there in your post. Will be 29 in August. That and there's a few new shiny toys out there at the minute like Bakayoko and Fabinho.
Personally I don't think Chelsea will get rid of him anytime soon unless they get ridiculous amount of money for him. Back in the CL you guys need plenty of bodies to last the season. Kante, Matic, Bakayoko, Fab.. Who else you guys have that can play in midfield?
HmmmThis signing could be announced early next week.
Yeah, was a journalist for 13-years...only left last year. Worked in Dublin for most of that, writing about United, so getting to know the lads on the Manchester beat then I moved to London, but was still heavily involved with United. Been a United fan since I was a kid.
I've worked both tabloid and broadsheet.
Can tell you, hand on heart, that football journalists have zero influence anymore. I think I posted about it on here before. Clubs/managers/players no longer need journalists as middle men. Media (which means 'middle') has evolved so much, that newspapers have become almost obsolete. All of these guys thinking they have 'insiders' and writing bollocks about transfers are taking daily guesses. I've taken guesses myself. It's how modern newspaper journalism goes.
I stand back and look at the tweets of people like Miguel Delaney, Neil Custis, Ducker..De Brun etc and just cringe for them. I know for certain they are all guessing.
What's always interesting is that nobody ever brings anything new to the table. Marca confirm United's interest in Morata and then - and only then - do all journalists on the Manchester beat suddenly know everything about what's going on. They didn;t know the story in the first place, but now that it looks likely to happen, they suddenly know every tiny detail...wages, fee, when he'll sign, where he'll fit into Jose's team etc...Absolute bullshitters. Last summer's falling about over Pogba was hilarious to read. It was really embarrassing for British journalists, they amount of guessing and fecking up they did was like a Laurel and Hardy movie. They got every detail of that transfer wrong all summer. British journalists don't get fed information. They have zero influence or power. They are now just a laughing stock. And take it from me; United don't leak a thing! They just don't. United are probably the most difficult football club on the planet to get any heads up from. They keep everything in-house. Football news has changed dramatically.
Years ago, if a football club wanted to inform fans of information, they would use what is called a middle man (media). They'd ring a journalist or put out a press release to sports editors and they would write a story, blah, blah, informing the fan. Now, clubs/players etc no longer need a 'middle man'...if they want news put out there to the millions of fans around the world, they can do it with the push of a button (social media, club's own website etc). A newspaper journalist is no longer needed. A newspaper journalist is obsolete. Hence, why I am now writing books and not lying to everyone else - and even myself - for a living.
Don't you all find it hilarious that nobody - not one journalist in the whole of the world - knew anything about Ronaldo yesterday morning. Then suddenly news breaks in Spain of his ambition to leave Real and suddenly EVERY journalist knows everything. Where he wants to go, how much he will cost, what he told his teammates, two hacks have even reported that Mourinho has already told people he doesn't want Ronaldo, even though Mourinho was on along-haul flight most of yesterday evening, these journalists now report that he held secret talks with PSG a month ago - yet didn't report it at the time. You couldn't make this shit up.....except they actually do! Football reporting is only one of two things these days; it's either embarrassing or funny It's nothing other than that. It can not be taking seriously.
Reverse psychology, nice.I don't know. We've shown recently that we have no issue selling good players to teams that can harm us. Mata, Cech, Lukaku...
Wouldn't put it past our board to sanction Matic to you guys.
Reverse psychology, nice.
Not going to work though, you guys keep him.
I think he'd hold us back from making an evolutionary step forward. Can't blame people for feeling this way. Matic is a very unsexy player who sticks to the basics.

Not all players are the same. And a few niggling injuries at that age is a killer. Why is age also considered a factor with cdms, the best cdms in the world has gone on to play on high levels till 35- 36 years of age.
We limped over the line. Thank god Pogba and a couple of the CBs were fit towards the end. Without them we would be literally fecked.
Seriously, I hope we do keep him. You guys were the perfect warning last season for what can happen when you play 60 games or whatever it was. We need all the bodies we can have.
We finished 6th, crawled over the CL line. We need quality players if we ever dream of going back to the top.
Serious lack of attacking intent in that midfield. Brilliant for a team that struggles to score goals.
We should sign both Maticand Fabinho since he would be a cover for RB as well.Although Valencia is a tank but we saw last season that he began to tire at the end of the season because we did not rotate him enough. In games we could play Matic in midfield and Fabinho at RB + the injury record we have is not that good. We already saw that once Pogba is out we don't have midfielders to cover for him. With Periera coming in next season,Pogba,Fellaini, herrera,Matic ,Fabinho(cover for RB as well) our midfield would be one of the best in the league. That is just my thinking though, not sure if Mourinho thinks this as well.
Are you for real? We have pogba and Herrera for attacking in there. What rubbish you talk
Matic has good passing range And vision and some destroyer qualities in high pressure , it won't be anything like you except. He ain't a braindead like fellani who always play safe sideways not forwards. Matic plays forwards .
By the way if it's between matic an fabinho I would also prefer fabinho for his mobility, but matic would be a great second choice over dier.
Fabinho thought has one disadvantage vs matic is that he may pick up yellows an reds for his brash tackling style as he is not so positionally diciplined like matic so he has to scrape and make tackles and can get caught sometimes because of his mobile nature. Matic on the other hand rarely gets caught out positionally defensivly.
Pogba and Herrera are CM not AM. They are not great for attacking.
You call Fellaini braindead but he offers more offensively than Matic.
A midfield three will obviously have only midfielders. You can't put strikers in a midfield 3 just because they will score more.
the only thing I can think off who offers less offensively than Fellaini is a filing cabinet
the only thing I can think off who offers less offensively than Fellaini is a filing cabinet
No but you can put a n10 there and why is there such a fetish to play with a midfield 3 ?
Not that I agree with the idea that Magic is a better goalscorer than Fellaini particularly but you'd have to factor in the fact that Fellaini played up front for Everton at times and how often in his career he's thrown on just to mill about the box. Those stats for Fellaini are fairly shit when that is considered. You can say that but these are facts:
Fellaini:
84 games for Standard, scored 12 goals and provided 6 assists
177 games for Everton, scored 33 goals and provided 26 assists
133 games for United, scored 15 goals and provided 9 assists
77 caps for Belgium, scored 16 goals
Total: 471 games, 76 goals and 41 assists
Average per game is: 0.16 goals and 0.09 assists
Matic:
29 games for Vitesse, scored 2 goals and provided 3 assists
56 games for VSS Kosice, scored 3 goals and provided 2 assists
97 games for Benfica, scored 9 goals and provided 1 assists
154 games for Chelsea, scored 7 goals and provided 20 assists
31 caps for Serbia, scored 1 goal
Total: 367 games, 22 goals and 26 assists
Average per game is: 0.06 goals and 0.07 assists
But keep pretending Matic is far superior to Fellaini in offence. The career stats tell a totally different story but who cares about facts right ?
You replied to a post that said 'a 4-3-3 with Herrera-matic-pogba is a balanced midfield'. To which you replied 'there's no attacking intent'. Now you ask why is it a fetish to play a midfield 3
It's also wrong to say that pogba and Herrera aren't attack minded. Even when he played as a deep midfielder, Herrera has a fair no. of assists.
Pogba is also as creative as any no.10 in the PL.
