uninspiring but probably needed. We still lacked a bit of bite in mid at times last season. He'll be effective in that he'll allow others to shine while he does the donkey work. Personally wouldn't have been my choice but Jose must rate him.
 
I spoken with 4 Chelsea fans today/yesterday and all 4 were laughing at the prospect of us buying their weakest player for circa £40m. You know the usual stuff like I'd pay his taxi to the north west !

Conte has spotted the weakest link in the team and is upgrading it. We're looking to sign him for a ridiculous fee, that frankly at 29 would make the pogba deal look cheap.

There are far better players available for less money and tbh I believe what we have in Fellaini to be a better option for a squad player, he can do the dm role but he also offers other options when plan A is not working.

We need to give this a huge wide birth or we will be seeing even more slow build up, crap football and only have ourselves to blame.

Maybe they were laughing at you for assuming the price would be £40m?
 
Matic is Premier League proven. He was poor the season before last, but so were the others. Hazard, Costa, Fabregas, etc, were all shadows of themselves.

This season; however, Kante has got all the plaudits, but Matic has also done a very good job and has gone under the radar because what he does often doesn't get noticed.

Matic is a proper holding midfielder. He is the one that sits in front of the back four and snuffs out any opposing attacks for Chelsea, hence why Conte would play either Kante or Fabregas next to Matic. It was very rare you saw a double pivot of Fabregas and Kante, because neither are holding midfielders.

This is why the rumours of Bakayoko going to Chelsea to replace Matic confuses me. Again, Bakayoko is not a holding midfielder, and I honestly feel that Chelsea would struggle without Matic.

However, if that is the case, and Matic is available, then we should buy him.

Like I said, he's premier league proven, has come off the back of winning a premier league title, where he was pivotal, both in his first and third season (2 titles in 3 seasons, not too shabby) and despite what people have been saying, he's actually a good player who would slot right into our team.

Now, I personally don't feel Conte will sell him because of the reasons I spoke about above, however, if he is up for sale, then we're in no position to be saying no to a player like Matic, in my opinion.
 
I think the most irritating cliche in football is "premier league proven". I literally cringe every time I read it.

Especially when pundits use it. It's like a way to beef up a player's reputation when there isn't much quality to talk about.

Complete crap. The lad is an old school DM, the reason Chelsea are after Bakayoko is that managers are realising that you don't need a water carrier, you need technically gifted players that can pass and keep the ball under pressure. Hence Conte wants to replace Matic with that sort of player.

I agree, should not buy Matic at all.

It is Fabinho or N'zonzi for me and if those 2 are either not gettable or mourinho for some magic reason doesn't want them than play Herrera as DM. Because we are not getting a 29 year old Chelsea outcast for fecking £40m.

Where is this coming from? He was intrumental in contributing Chelsea to two epl titles Because of superior defensive block they are in the midfeild which almost no one can get past.

Bakayoko ain't even a cdm . He lacks positional dicipline and also definitely not an upgrade anywhere near to matic. He is different kind of player.

Matic along with being a good cdm has skills as a destroyer to get out of high pressure and a decent passing range , and links up with forwards well.

The notion of Bakayoko being an upgrade is a farce.

They played with 3 forwards, one of them Hazard who is one of the best players in the league in attack. They also played with 3 at the back allowing to field 2 wingbacks that contributed alot from offensive perspective.

If you are getting Matic to sit behind Herrera and Pogba, play 2 CB's behind, 2 Fullbacks with little or no attacking contribution and 3 of our poor ass forwards that don't even come near to Hazard quality level than yes we are going to struggle to score goals. Where are they going to come from ? Spawn out of Pogba's arse ? Atleast with Fabinho you would have a DM that also gets forward and scores goals, with Matic you have a big lump who will sit in front of his defence and do feck all in a offensive perspective.

Unless you want another season of Borefest United, you should absolutley not be wanting a midfield like that. It is pure defensive, nothing else.

I didn't know that was a pre-requisite to not being a water carrier. However Matic has a good passing range, again he is far from a water carrier
 
So much negativity. Personally, I think Matic wood be a very useful player for us. Yes, the fee seems a bit high if we're to believe reports but other than that, it's not half as bad as this thread will have you believe.

Matic has good passing range And vision and some destroyer qualities in high pressure , it won't be anything like you except. He ain't a braindead like fellani who always play safe sideways not forwards. Matic plays forwards .

By the way if it's between matic an fabinho I would also prefer fabinho for his mobility, but matic would be a great second choice over dier.

Fabinho thought has one disadvantage vs matic is that he may pick up yellows an reds for his brash tackling style as he is not so positionally diciplined like matic so he has to scrape and make tackles and can get caught sometimes because of his mobile nature. Matic on the other hand rarely gets caught out positionally defensivly.

He has numerous passes to Pedro and hazard in dangerous direct vertical passes finding them in space in the box.

Also he can actually play in a midfeild two and have control by winning first and second balls unlike any of our current midfeilders including pogba.
 
I wouldn't mind getting Matic along with Fabhinio. When Carrick retires next season having Matic and Fabhinio would be perfect.
 
If he can get back to his form from 12-15 then he would be a great player but I'm not sure he'll dovetail with Pogba considering both prefer to play on the left side of midfield.
 
Unbelievably stupid if we sell a Matic to a title rival. Why would we even consider improving a PL club? Surely Matic will have offers from several big clubs abroad.

I'll be pissed off personally if we do this. Matic is too good to sell domestically.
