Nelson Semedo

I haven't really watched him play but I think getting a right back is a wise decision from the club. We are really short of cover in that position. If Valencia doesn't play, we're are really down to a lottery system of who plays there. For all the talk of us needing a left back, I for one always thought that right back is more urgent requirement for us.

He is class, I just hope we address other/more urgent areas too.. If we end up signing him, I can see us go on and bring in another two players at least.

This would be perfect, but I fear we're being used as a stalking horse for City or Barca. I feel like we would've wrapped this up with Lindelof if we were truly in for him.

Valencia's been a fantastic servant to the club and his extension is well deserved, but he's a level or two behind Semedo from an attacking perspective. Even if we have Valencia, we should go for Semedo if he's available because the price in a year or two could skyrocket if we don't strike now. Do you think clubs regret not targeting Alex Sandro when he went for 25m from Porto now that Juve are demanding 60m+ less than 2 years later? He likely wouldn't even be available if he went to Barca or City

Aa good as Valencia is, he is the wrong side of 30 and is unlikely to start getting younger. Need to find a new rb sooner rather than later
Werent we using TFM there? I think he needs to be given a chance from the start. He could be a useful player for us either in DM or RB.

Darmian is a right back, he just never got a chance to play there because Valencia is a machine and we never had fit left backs.

Ideally I'd prefer having attacking fullbacks which means I wouldn't ever want Darmian to start a game for us. But I can accept him as a squad + tactical player who can sort of cover both full back positions and start certain games where we need a bit more cover at the back.

But I'd much rather have Blind, Shaw Valencia and maybe even Demi Mitchell ahead of Darmian. We need at least two attacking RBs in the squad.

We can live with Valencia for one more season. We have Darmian as backup for now and can look to upgrade next summer.

There are other positions to be addressed that are more urgent, particularly LB, DM and AM

So is that Sport, and Mundo Deportivo? Probably both based on O Jogo?

@Maradona10 The tweet in your post seems to have gone dead.

We need an offensive upgrade on valencia.
I hope this and a LB come in.
Agree with this. As good as Valencia has been, for someone who gets the ball.so high up, his actual attacking contribution is poor.

Would love this. Means we can let Darmian go.

Valencia/Semedo
Bailly/Smalling (Jones)
Lindelof/Rojo
Shaw/Blind

That's a bloody good set of of players for those four positions. Would like us to shift Jones if possible too.

TFM and Tuanzebe.

TFM and Tuanzebe.
I knew someone would mention them, but yes, I imagine they'll get game time too. Particularly in league/FA cup. Hope we go for everything this season. We shouldn't be having excuses about squad size, if need be, recruit enough players now and I think we have enough young talent in our ranks to trust with the domestic cups. At least until we come across the big guns.

Imo, he's one of the main reasons why a lot of attacking moves don't result in any chances. He's our main outlet but his decision making and delivery is often poor.
I like him but when you compare him to people like Marcelo and Dani Alves, you notice the difference. Almost everytime Marcelo receives the ball out wide, Real look very dangerous.
Tony is very good at dominating his flank, second to none but in reality, he doesn't produce much as for as attacking /chances are concerned.

Exactly. Always difficult saying that here because you're likely to be hounded out. Tony is a tank, fitness levels are brilliant, speed is there, but very rarely does he make teams suffer. When we first signed him he was so predictable but unstoppable at the same time. He'd just just go straight at the full back, best him and get a cross is. Now he dithers and rarely attacks full backs with that same intent

Love to get him, he looks very impressive a proper offensive fullback.

From his YT videos, he is quick, does tricks and looks good going forward. Maybe resident Benfica fans could shed more light on him and his defensive abilities?

Not that I would be against his signing but shouldn't we first be in for a left back?
I'm one of the shaw will come good crowd. Maybe mourinho is too!
Really hope shaw is back lean and fit for preseason and impresses. Would save us yet another 30-40m on a lb and Chelsea are about to spend 60.....

He's had 3 seasons to prove himself and he has failed.
At what point do you conclude that a player just isn't good enough to play for MUFC?

Personally, I give a player 2 seasons to show something. If he shows something fantastic, then I give him a 3rd season (like Martial, who had a good first season, so gets a 3rd season), but Shaw has had one disastrous season, followed by another. the guy should've been sold this Summer, but because he is injured, we can't offload him.
Fellaini, who gets ridiculed, has had far more good games than Shaw has. Same goes for Anderson (remember him)?

A former central midfielder converted to RB. Very attacking, did pretty much the full wing himself when Salvio was horrible and couldn't drive the ball forward without losing it. Defends well but our level is lower than EPL. Danilo was decent here and in Spain is another thing. I hope he stays, we already lost a GK and a CB, and our other CB is turning 37 next year.

Shaw has dealt with injuries every season. So it was not like we have gotten a full 3 seasons out of him.

We can't just change the whole team in one summer transfer window. We need at least 2 attackers, and a centre midfielder, left back is also of more priority than a right back (not that I'm saying we should buy one, just saying right back isn't that big a priority). Mourinho will buy 4-5 players. A defender (Lindelof), a CM, and two attackers and maybe one other player in another position. I don't see that position being right back.

Given that is he so good going forward, wonder if he will be given a chance on the right wing?

We should have wrapped it up with Lindelöf, double swoop and announcement.

I dont see that much need for a RB, but if he is a big talent, best to snap him up now and not wait til Valencia is finished in a few years and we only buy someone decent/good
