But it's Texas A&M? I don't follow college football I just flicked it on because I saw this thread active, I know they're the Aggies but didn't realise calling them Texas was wrong.
Texas refers to the Longhorns of the University of Texas at Austin, a hated rival of Texas A&M.

You say “A&M” or “Aggies” when referring to who Clemson played last night for the same reason someone would say “City” instead of “Manchester”.

Cool, thanks

For feck’s sake, Rodney Anderson is out for the season for the 3rd time in 4 seasons. This was a guy that was so good he was taking carries away from Joe Mixon and Samaje Perine as a true frosh; maybe our best player. Bullcorn.

She could start a gofundme that rewards each individual $20 contribution with a bj, and use those funds to do whatever she plans to do with this stupid attempt to spotlight herself.

I coach with a guy who is from Arkansas and coached at Arkansas and he was beside himself the next day in staff meetings. Couldn’t talk to him he was so upset.
How shit is a program when North Texas (Go Mean Green!) scores 44 and win by 27 against?
Bret Bielema did everything imaginable wrong when he was head coach there.

Chad Morris is having to put out a dumpster fire.

Not sure how much height has been an issue for him, as he's actually taller than Drew Brees. Immaturity definitely was an issue at times, but he seems to have fixed that bit.
NFL scouts throw out the exceptions to the rule when they’re evaluating a player.

Same with college scouts.

One thing is for sure - the college ratings sites like Rivals completely missed the boat on a vast majority of QBs currently in the pros. Since the Rivals rating system started in the early 2000s - only 5 current NFL starters were 5 stars coming out of HS. 10 were 3 stars.....and a couple like Russell Wilson were 2 stars. So all things said, I'm not surprised they missed the boat on Mayfield.

You’re talking about evaluating them coming out of high school when you’re talking about recruiting stars. The stars just represent their potential to develop.

So many things can happen between high school and finishing college to throw those off.

On top of that, when talking QBs, so many 5 star “dual threat” guys are going to be passed over for the NFL because they don’t possess the skill set or physical attributes of a pro-style offensive QB.

That's true but a lot of college fans look at the star system in terms of the quality of players they are getting with an expectation that they will actually develop into what their star ratings imply. Rarely works out like that.

I’m aware of what fans think stars mean.

I’m just telling you what they really mean.

I think its more that the major colleges missed them.

Darnold, Brady, Watson, Luck, Stafford, Bradford are the only ones recruited to top schools at the time.

Mayfield was a walk on, Rodgers and Allen went to community college, Tannehill played receiver at Texas A&M, Keenum had only 1 scholarship offer, Foles/Flacco/Wilson all transferred, Garappolo had no D1 offers, etc.

Maybe we just dont really know much about evaluating quarterbacks.

It’s also partly down to who makes the evaluations for the recruiting sites. Most of them are sports journalists who take notes at various HS games and summer football camps and then combine their findings into a star rating. If they don’t happen to watch a player for whatever reason then that player’s rating is either no stars or a very low rating like 2. I’m guessing that’s what happened to Russell Wilson.

So much of it is down to mental development at that position, and that’s near impossible to pinpoint.

You can evaluate physical skills all day long, and that’s how they get the big chunk of what a high school QB’s recruitment rating is, but the mental part is a crap shoot.

Much much more evaluation is done using game film on Hudl by scouting professionals than from game notes made by journalists.

Does Petrino get some criticism too?

I mean... Petrino left in some serious ignominy, but the problems at Arkansas now are down to Bielema.

The guy went to the Texas state coaches clinic and told every HS football coach in the state “I won’t have a player coming out of some spread offense. If I don’t see a fullback’s hand on the ground, I’m not going to stay and watch it.”

Arkansas can’t afford to not recruit Texas, and he pissed the whole state off that day.

Well that's because a lot of college fans are idiots.

True. I can't count the amount of times fans on CFB boards get annoyed by the fact that rival schools have more 4 and 5 star commitments....never mind how these players actually wind up performing over the next 4 years.

I've always found it odd seeing grown adults salivating over a 17-year old "hot prospect" or "five-star recruit" signing for a college he/she supports (and likely never attended).

I remember seeing FB posts a few years back from former HS classmates of mine all wanking themselves silly over Kyler Murray's commitment to A&M.
