NBC Sports is getting the Premier League Next Season

The Swansea match next Saturday is on the main NBC channel.

Holy hell, NBC had a show introducing the Premier League teams (designed for those folks who know nothing about football). It was horrific in all of the ways you would expect (including the repeated references to 'franchise'). Of course, I was not their target audience for that show but if all of their shows are going to pander to the lowest common denominator, then I will stick to the live games and that's it.

I was watching the one preview show they had on that talked about the 10 biggest talking points of the season and it wasn't bad...

An interesting bit at the end they were advertising for showing Match of the Day and Match of the Day II... any idea if these are the same shows from England? I've always enjoyed d/l'ing MOTD online to watch it... would be pretty cool to see it on TV now.

I think their Match of the Day is the same concept but with NBC's analysts/commentators.

I thought their countdown show was pretty good. Better insight and production than from FSC. agree about the Club Guide show. I don't think they'll dumb everything down like that thru the season. Hope not at least.

That ad is great for most of the audience here. "Ties and no playoffs? Why do you even do this?"

Does this mean NBC will just have 1 match a weekend or will they broadcast some on the NBC Sports networks ,or whatever they're called? Is gives me a bad feeling I'm about to lose lots and lts of matches on tv.

Most of the games are on NBC Sports with the games between the top sides being on the main NBC channel. This is what I gather from the scheduling for the first three weeks of the season anyway. You should get NBC Sports if you have regular NBC.

Checking Directv channel guide........

Found it! Excellent.

Am I correct that if you're cable provider has access to Premier League Extra Time you'll be able to pick whichever game you want to watch if multiple games are happening at once? Then there's the fact that you can use the nbc live app where every game will be available live.

On fios I believe extra time will be streaming only? Good news is I have chromecast so can watch on TV anyway. I bet 100% of united games will be on NBC/nbcsn.

Anyone figure out what happens to fox soccer plus?

ESPN has a new soccer-specific show called ESPNFC. It's not bad so far. They spent the first 20-30 minutes discussing the Premier League. They have some good talent on.

It's not a new show really. It's a rebranding of ESPN Press Pass really. Same people as were on that.

It was awful, so far everything I have seen from NBC is pretending that they are the very first network to every broadcast the PL in the US and that none of their audience could possibly know anything about the game or the clubs. Now granted they are trying to reach a wider audience but they can strike a balance between treating everyone as a new viewer with no knowledge and with understanding that many of their viewers will already have been watching for years elsewhere.

I watched it, too, and thought it was moronic. Then there was a show or part of a show broadcaset from the soccer bar in New York City that was merely an advertisement for the place. They are aiming for the lowest common denominator. I pray the presenters of the matchs will be the English feed and not NBC personnel.

I have some vague recollection of FSC doing this years back with Nevada Smiths but can't remember

I watched that yesterday and turned it off 5 minutes in when they we talking about our #7's and didn't mention Cantona.

Anyone got a clue how this will affect Canada?

I get 3 different NBC stations.

Yet I notice that the CS was on Sportsnet World... do they have the rights for Canadian broadcasts of the EPL?

Yeah, but it's on ESPN2 now rather than just a web-based show. At least I don't know of PressPass being on tv.

Our coverage will remain the same, but the NBC stations you have will also show Premier League games as well, but if you have Sportsnet World they'll likely be the same games you'd already get but possibly with American commentators.

Is NBC on basic cable, or do I have to subscribe to a specific package for this? I'm using Comcast.

NBC regular is free, you don't even need a cable / satellite service (so over the air). Any basic cable TV service you get it will have it.

NBCSports - that will be part of some package as it's not free. Go to http://www.nbcsports.com/tv-listings and put in your ZIP code to find out which channel it's shown on for TV companies in your area

So far it looks like NBCSports will be showing at 3 PM kickoffs on Saturdays (10 Eastern) and NBC will show the 5:30 PM (12:30 Eastern) kickoffs. The first United (against Swansea) game is on the latter.

Edit: It looks like Sunday NBCSports is showing 2 games as well. The Spurs game and then the Chelsea game.

From what I understood some of the other NBC owned networks like Univision (Spanish) etc were also going to show games.

NBC will carry noon-thirty (EDT) kickoffs in the US?

That's feckin' sweet. feck you FOX! Granted, I'll be sorely displeased if NBC does this local schedule prevails for weekend games like FOX allowed. Instead of watching United/Chelsea I was instead watching a fecking local church broadcast. When that ended instead of picking up the match for the second half as a live feed, FOX local shows a tape delay. feck you FOX!

 That's terrible luck Marcello, reminds me of very early days of ESPN showing Champions League games and them changing their match pick at the last minute.
