Just saw a commercial on NBC Sports, apparently will be showing the Premier League next season. News to me.

Lets hope they get decent announcers and not some crossover idiots who normally commentate on Hockey and the NFL.

It's serious throat cutting time for Yank fans.

NBC will be full of "offensive" "PK" and "goalie" talk.

I miss Setanta US, who also used to air MUTV. We've gone backwards in the states in the last 5 years.

Setanta was better than Fox Soccer but I don't think we can complain really. Especially with NBC airing every game both online and through their affiliate sports network. This without having to pay $15 per month (DirecTV) sounds like a deal to me. Judging from spoof adverts with Jason Sudeikis the production value of the coverage will be greatly increased. Hopefully this means full screen games in 1080/720p without running advert banners (FoxSoccer).

I do agree the commentating lineup makes me cringe.

The way they're pretty much taking the piss of the usual American coverage with that ad you'd expect that they want to change it a bit to suit football (SOCCER!!) better. Otherwise I don't really see the point in that ad, although it's quite amusing.

Depends on the general opinion in the US of course. Do the ones who live there know if people are generally happy with the American-style coverage? Do they want a more European approach (where commentators and experts actually use the correct footballing terms etc.) or do they prefer the previous commentary with slightly changed NFL terms?

As an American I'd prefer Gary Neville, his insight and calm punditry is second to none. Instead we'll get Gary Johnson who seems to mask his footballing naïvety by simply raising his decibel level with every goal. Alas, I won't complain as I know it's a lot easier to watch the league here in the states than in the UK.

I think however they do the coverage, it's a great move. EVERY Premier League game will be on live (at least for us with DirecTV). Some of the games (starting with United's opener against Swansea) will be live on NBC's main network station.

From what I understand, they will have 2 NBC commentary teams and pull the English audio for the other games like FSC did. I am really excited.

They seem to be pushing this hard in the states. http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/08/01/premier-league-nbc-ny-subway_n_3686693.html

Correct. Arlo White's the lead commentator and I quite like him.

If it's one thing American's know, it's marketing. It' odd because I kind of like it being a fringe sport here. I have several friends who follow it with a passion and it brings us together. I worry about a bunch of bandwagon supporters just picking "their" team and being obnoxious about it (that's another thing we Yanks are good at).

Yes, this is all but inevitable. I cringe whenever Sporscenter airs a footie highlight, no matter who hosting they revert to their 'ignorant, clueless' commentary as if having little knowledge is actually funny.

That's just what English fans did with NFL teams in the 80's, when Channel 4 started showing it and there was a big increase in popularity. Possibly without the obnoxiousness.

Looking at things like NBC's giant billboard advert in Times Square, plus their spoof video, partly filmed at our new training complex, of that American comedian as our new manager, Spurs seem to be have been chosen as the prime vehicle for NBC's EPL advertising campaign. So hopefully that'll lead to a significant expansion in our North American fan base.

It's a shame Spurs' biggest draw will be playing in La Liga next season.

Yeah that makes sense. Spurs have definitely been chosen as the "prime vehicle".

The routine and watching English footy over here in North America is just so different. I've lived on the East and West coasts and getting up at 7:30 am and 4:30 am for the early kicks offs means that the Premier League interest will stay within their niche market and little else.

Most people don't want to get up on weekends that early to tune it. I for one, absolutely love it and will wake up no matter how tired or hung over I am to waste my Saturday watching an unhealthy amount of footy.

Where I live in Ontario we are quite lucky. I literally get every United game live in HD with the exception of the odd Carling Cup game. There are also most of the other key games and lots of FA Cup games and every CL game.

It's expensive and you can only really watch CL games in the pub due to the time difference, but the amount of coverage over here is pretty extensive.

Nah, David Cameron has vetoed the move in tit-for-tat retaliation over Gibraltar. And as further punishment he's ordered Moyes to sell Rooney to a Spanish club instead of Chelsea.

 "Prime vehicle"

The TV promos over here are about 99% MUFC, City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea and 1% Gareth Bale. For what it's worth.

A UK evening kick off is pretty good for the East Coast though.

The one thing I love about football and the East coast of the U.S. is I can watch 3 games starting at about 7:45 and be done just after lunch time. That's the length of about 1 and a half American football games with the ridiculous amount of commercials. It leaves me with lunch time and on to be with the family or do chores around the house.

This. Completely agree. Starts the day off beautifully and still gives me time to enjoy the weekend! One of the few things I enjoy more in the US than India.

Miss the days when FSC had the Serie A. If the schedule was right, I'd watch the games at 645, 9, 1130, then finish it off with a Serie A game in the afternoon at 145. 4 games watched before 2 in the afternoon, still plenty of time to get stuff done.

Wife hated it though.

YES! For the bigger games, I invite friends over for breakfast as well. Like you said, you can't beat watching a few games before noon and still have the rest of the day to do whatever.

Personally, I like the fact that I can set a game to record in the morning and watch it at night without ever having the result spoiled for me during the day. It allows me to spend the day with my wife and daughter and watch the game at night.

However, I do have a lot of fond memories of getting up early and driving 1 to 1 1/2 hours to go to a pub to watch games on satellite. But that was when I was in my early 20s.

I was skeptical about NBC at first, but I love that it will be all games live. I don't care about the announcers, I'm watching for the action on the pitch and often don't pay much attention to what they're saying.

It's taken a while, but I've finally found something I like Jason Sudeikis in.

"how many countries are in this country?"

Same here, I didn't watch it about 3 times before finally giving it a chance based on all the smilies. He should quit everything for the forseeable future and just do this. Forever.

I think it's because he's usually playing characters that are supposed to be sympathetic, or cool, but playing them like an absolute dick. Here he's playing someone who supposed to be an absolute dick, like an absolute dick.

I'm amazed it's taken them this long to figure it out.

"All I'm looking for is 60% effort, 4000% of the time!"
