NBA 2023-2024

The real MVP and the one to watch for future consideration in the GOAT bracket is Brad Stevens. The rest is entirely disposable bar Tatum imho and, for one, I do not think the owners would want to spend almost one billion / year after they get their banner, in case.

Stevens is never getting a sniff of that peak. Phil has 11 championships, Riley and Popovich have 5 each. And there's also Auerbach with 9 and Kundla with 5 from different eras.

... but can it also be a sign that Boston are playing very well as a team, and that there is no need for Tatum to play hero ball and try to cement himself as the man?
Why would he do that, when they play as great as they do now? There is simply no need for him to try to build his ego/legacy, he'll be content with winning ring(s) instead.
That is telling about what kind of player he is and isn't for me.
(He hasn't even been that bad, he's in fact been very good in this series.)

Also, the Jaylen slander has gone to far. He's been very, very good this season. He's developed into a tremendous two way player, and he can even dribble with his left hand now!
A human highlight reel in the finals. Clear cut finals MVP, and robbed of both an all-NBA selection, as well as all-defense team.

I realize the Celtics is not your favorite team, but the criticism you're providing is leaning towards parodical.
It's not criticism. Both of them are great players, and Brown has been playing very well this season and playoffs, I never contested otherwise. But there is a HUGE difference between great players and potential GOAT status as a duo which is a farcical comment.

Did we do the same with Jokic and Murray last season? They have a much better claim for it anyway if we're going down that road. Let's just praise the Celtics for what they are (a great all-around team) and refrain from making way over the top statements about things they clearly are not, is all I'm saying here. And yes I know the original post said "if they kick on after this season", but even then. Just don't do it.

The first three did it as HC, not executives. Auerbach is combined as HC and executive I believe.

It won't happen. It's pointless to say stuff like that, which is my point. You can disregard the first sentence then if you want.

Noted. People should only talk about things you want.

What the feck are you on about man  As if you wouldn't reply to a post that says "the Vikings will be the GOAT dynasty if JJ McCarthy kicks on". What the feck is the point of such statements? None at all.

Future consideration means future, though? In case, he has 30 years ahead of him. PJ and Auerbach are clearly out of the imaginable reach at 11 and 9, yet 3-5 successful iterations are not a remote feat, in case he stays so long.

I agree about the GOAT stuff. That word is thrown around way to much in general. Even if they win four rings, they'll have a tough time joining the discussion, unless they win the next three "on their own".

And yet he's never getting near Phil Jackson legendary status, arguably the best ever, so it's moot. He should win his first title soon but already goat future chatter is just nonsense. Come on now.

While I disagree with the idea that they could be the best duo of all time, they would 100% be in the conversation. Just think about how many people hype up the 2008 Celtics and in particular Garnett-Pierce, now imagine a duo that wins 4 or 5 rings.

Throwing the GOAT term seems to me just social media or internet at large exaggeration for the HoF bracket?

Well, it literally means greatest of all time, so shouldn't be thrown around loosely, especially when said players don't have a claim and won't ever have one either.

If it's about HOF, then Tatum is already a surefire HOF'er with one ring and multiple All-NBA selections aged 26 imo.

That's just not true at all. Their 2008 team is always referenced to as the Big Three. No one talks about Garnett and Pierce as a duo without mentioning Ray Allen.

Add Allen if you want to, the point is the same.

He has literally re-established Boston as a team-first franchise as a coach, then added piece after piece with incredibly smart (no pun intended) and bold moves as an exec. The intangibles for a great, even glorious career are there.

Not really, I barely ever see people hype up that Celtics team. One great run then choked against the Lakers in 2010 and never got the better of LeBron's Miami.

And it's also not the same because just like with that Celtics team, you couldn't name a duo just like you can't with this current Celtics team. Which makes the initial comment even more ridiculous (and it also says WILL be GOAT duo, not even "are in the discussion" or "could be").

wtf … Perkins went down and they lost the ring. The rest is moot indeed, it’s the HoF bracket here or the 75 list at best.

Okay that was probably too harsh on them

They were up by double digits midway through the 3th quarter though.

Perkins had a +2 pt diff through five games and was -6 when he was injured early in G6, not sure how much his presence impacts G6 and G7, they did lose G6 by 22 with him playing 6 mins grabbing 1 reb and committing 1 turnover. Game 7 was a horrendous game so maybe he makes a difference but his stat line through G5 - 7 ppg, 6.8 rbp, 1.2 apg with 1 steal, 0 blocks, and 7 turnovers. He had intangibles, heart, and leadership but not sure if that's getting them past LA in G7 on the road. Rasheed Wallace started G7 and didn't stink up the place but did foul out.

Applying oranges categories (numbers, star power) to apples (cohesion, ubuntu) does not work but I see you are here for the banter, while I am looking forward to the next 4 games hoping to win 1.

Foul trouble for the thin big man rotation led to the Lakers getting tons of offensive rebounds off of all the Kobe bricks
Kobe got 15 rebounds , 4 offensive and we just showed more fight and heart than those losers. Rondo, Allen and Pearce all shot terribly and couldn't play defense when it mattered. That Artest three was a beauty wasn't it

Thinking Perkins was the this game changer is hilarious though. Typical delusional celtic fans. About to get 2 titles in the last thirty something years though. Well done

I hate being a Celtic fan and missing so many of these games but work and baby just does not allow it
Gonna have to find a way to see the next (hopefully last) game

Yeah gosh if only they'd managed to reach the lofty heights of 6-24. Kobe had 4 games in his career where he got 15+ rebounds - thanks for making the point for me hah.

Looking forward to raising banner 18 - good luck on getting to 13 actual ones next year despite being rejected by any coach worth a damn

Yet people think I’m being overly harsh on the Celtics :D

6-24 is better than 3-14 but Celtic fans probably can't do math. Enjoy your second title this century if you win another game

Sure and Rondo shot 6/13 and Pierce shot 5/15. Both significantly better than 6/24 but go off - enjoy being held hostage by LeBron for the next few years and your stolen titles from Minneapolis since that's the only way you can actually compare. At least you'll always have the in season tournament banner though!

You should be on knees thanking Lebron for leaving the Leastern conference and giving your sorry bunch a chance after whopping your ass for a decade. Stolen titles from Minneapolis is so original, too bad we don't have the rich history of racism and destroying Bill Russells trophies and smearing shit in his bed.

What are you even talking about? The big 3 Celtics famously beat the brakes off Cleveland Lebron to the point where he fled to Miami. Lebron's dominance of the East coincided with the Celtics rebuilding - after which Lebron beat the Tatum Celtics in Tatum's rookie year in a game 7 so congrats I suppose?

Very rich for you to complain about clichés and then spout off a whole lot of whataboutism. Based on your high horse I suppose it's ok to take credit for Minneapolis' titles but not their racist treatment of Elgin Baylor?

guys guys stop fighting

the celtics and the lakers are both evil

Both ways there will be a special delivery in 2-10 days… the best awaited banner to the most important franchise in the NBA or the most epic comeback in history which would make the same franchise a laughing stock forever.

What happened to that 1 hawks fan who was convinced Trae is the best player in the league? We need that kind of voice of reason among lakers and celtics fans.

Draft night for the return to business as usual… until pick n17.

Hawks fan reporting to duty! Feck Boston, feck the Lakers and feck New York.

Oh but trade Trae, now is the right time.
