NBA 2022-2023

I'm absolutely delighted with the Lakers FO. Who would have thought that a team with LeBron and AD on its roster could be this dogshit?
Good times, I just hope they don't manage to get the Pels another 1st pick.

I think if the Pels get Wenbanyama with the Lakers pick they should make Pelinka executive of the year but list his team as "New Orleans".

Ha, I can see how I worded that poorly.

The Lakers are in LA, which I believe is technically in a desert.

To be fair, the Lakers are from the Twin Cities which is lakes country.:)

Absolutely they are and it is. At least the Pelicans had the decency to rename themselves after moving (as did the Thunder).

I could be wrong but I have always interpreted that decision as a way to make sure that the very successful history of the Lakers was moved seamlessly to LA. But maybe I'm being too cynic?

They absolutely kept the name to steal some history. Importing teams is kind of an LA thing:

Basketball: Lakers from Minnesota (Land of a Thousand Lakes)
Basketball: Clippers from San Diego
Baseball: Dodgers from Brooklyn (Trolly Dodgers)
Baseball: Angels (Actually originated in LA)
Football (current): Chargers from San Diego
Football (current and past): Started in Cleveland, moved to LA, moved to St. Louis, moved to LA.
Football (past): Raiders: moved from Oakland

Better the Pelicans than a team named after bodies of water that is located in a desert.
Touché. To me Lakers doesn’t mean anything. No one calls people who like to hang out on lakes, “Lakers”.

Maybe change it to Thirst Slakers? Sponsored by Gatorade

Isn't this a good thing? I mean, if you say "Lakers" everyone knows what you are talking about.

I don’t get what is so bad about Pelicans. They are cool animals.

They're goofy looking, and don't have any of the connotations of speed or power that Eagles or Falcons have.

Their mouths are ridiculously big, is any other creature's anatomy so dominated by its own mouth? Big mouth is a mild insult.

They can fly in heights of up to 3000m. Flying incredibly high fits the sport of Basketball very well. Thus the pelican is an ideal mascot for a team. I think I’ve proven my point very well.

If you guys have a bit of time, I advise you to watch this video from an excellent content creator. I didn't realize it was this bad in the current NBA tbh

@Sarni should I be putting everything I have on Portland to come out of the West?
Yes. We are going 68-14 and winning it all.

Honestly though, I expected this team to maybe get to play-in and lose there but I am starting to think it is better than that, even looking at team construction. We'd be without chance against Warriors and most likely Clippers but I reckon the rest of the East is within reach... plus we finally have some enticing assets that we could flip at some point if things don't work out with the current group.

This is definitely a more balanced group than our Dame-CJ teams, even if we somehow ended up having two undersized guards again having Hart and Grant as our wings as opposed to Harkless and Aminu is a big leap, not to mention a much stronger bench and young players coming up. We seem to have quietly hit all our draft picks in recent years too, since Zach Collins fiasco (Simons, Little, Trent, to an extent even Watford, now seemingly Sharpe).

You've still got GP2 to come back as well. He is a beast on the defensive end.

They’re also very skinny and prone to getting injured easily.

Fits in with Ingram and Zion (minus the skinny part) as well. Pelicans are a perfect mascot for New Orleans.

It’s a good mascot altogether. Much better than a piston or some weird pants nobody wears anymore.

Yeah and there will be plenty of development from our young players. I think center position may be a weakness over the course of season as Nurkic just isn't durable enough, Eubanks is good for maybe 8-10 mins a game and we've been playing Watford there but he still needs a few years of development. We've played Winslow there recently in our small ball lineups which actually worked quite well.

I think we will just pick up someone off the buyout market or trade for someone later in the season, even someone like Olynyk to add a larger body in there.

We have amazing depth at guard and wing positions though.

I mean, Toucans are pretty weird

As an Aussie I'm happy to see Jock Landale doing well for the Suns. Think he can be a pretty good back-up for Ayton in the regular season.

Warriors’ second unit and defense has been terrible through these first 4 games. Missing GP2, Porter and Bjelica.

Well unless Steph gets injured, they can still keep experimenting and finish in a playoff spot easily and hope that Moody and at least someone else steps up and becomes a reliable rotation piece.

Just saw KAT comments about AE diet, is it that bad or KAT deflects blame or whatever his idea is about putting that shit out there.

Ant addressed the topic this summer, so KAT is being full of shit. And yes, it was a bad diet of junk food.

We may never see another team as deep as last year's Warriors.

Careful, I stumbled into a 2 page litany by the resident Warrior fans at the end of the season for having the audacity to suggest that the Warriors had a really good roster.

Surely every champion has a really good roster?

Yeah it is not a dig as the OP might be alluding.

And I am fairly sure people were saying that Klay hasn’t been good and Draymond was patchy. They still are the same and the Warriors need Klay to be passable come playoffs.
