NBA 2018-2019

Beal wants out of Washington as soon as possible. Could get interesting. I don’t really see many teams who can offer a great package for him so they will probably be forced to take 50 cents on the dollar.

TJ Warren has been quietly amazing this season. Always thought he was great aside from his three point shot. Threes have been falling at a great rate this season for him (45.6% on 3.8 attempts a game).

Again a hard fought victory. Steph is coming back though, and things will get better and easier.

KD has stepped up in the last 3 games. As he should!

He's amazing! That block basically changed the entire atmosphere and the attitude of the team.

Which one? Cause he made two amazing blocks tonight.

Kudos to Klay too. His shooting was under 50% but he made like 4 three-pointers in the last quarter which were super important to win the game.

It is funny that this team is struggling without Steph and to a lesser degree Green despite having two dead cert hall of farmers (one of which a top 15 player ever and likely a top 5 attacking weapon) but really the team outside of the big four and Iggy (who has slowed down a lot) is quite bad. It has a really weak bench and when a player misses (especially Steph) it hurts the team a lot.

Can't wait to see Steph back. He was playing on 2014-2016 level before he got injured.

This one

It would have given Orlando 20 point lead. Instead Warriors went on a 19-5 run after that.

I agree with your assessment.

Cannot see the tweet but from the description is the one from behind. Reminded me (the quality and impact of it, not the occasion obviously) of LeBron's block on Iggy in game 7.

Yes, that's the one! (Looks like it was taken down by a copyright or something). It was incredible!

Also, Klay is a weird guy. He has a quantum switch or something in his head that once he hits one or two he can measure it all and hit it from anywhere and it's in. I feel he's gonna get like 50 in a quarter or something that ridiculous soon to even better the madness he's done in the past.

When Klay gets hot, he gets hotter than any player I have ever seen.

Orlando are surpirisingly decent this season. Vucevic has been brilliant, Gordon is finally healthy and they get some quality minutes from Bamba and Isaac too. East is wide open for 3 playoffs spots (Bucks, Celtics, Raptors, Sixers and Pacers are locks for playoff appearances) so a team like Magic could perhaps make the playoffs even with 39-40 wins. I think Pistons will more than likely make it and it will be between Hornets, Magic, Wizards, Heat and Nets for the remaining 2. No chance for Knicks, Bulls, Hawks and Cavs (only 1 team is 100% unable to make the playoffs in the West on the other hand, Suns).

Yep. Game 6 of the WCF in 2016 was unlike anything i'd ever seen. Also ultimately responsible for getting Durant on the warriors

I still don't get how Thunder dropped that one. They were like 1/20 to win the game with 6 or 7 minutes to go.

It is all to do with how they play when Steph is missing. They transition from a ball movement team to a predominantly iso team. In the first 12 games of the season they were averaging over 30 assists/game, since the injury it has dropped down to around 24. In their four game losing streak it was down in the low twenties. It is not just the iso style which is different though, their pace of play drops significantly and they turn into much more of a half court team. Before Steph's injury they were averaging about 106 possessions/game. During that disastrous TX road trip they averaged under 100 bottoming out at a frankly pitiful 92.4 in Houston.

Hopefully they can right the ship when Steph and Draymond return but I think it's going to take a little while to re-incorporate them both and get back to playing the type of basketball we all know and love. ;)

It could also be the fact that they are replacing two all stars and the greatest three point shooter of all time with bench players who are a bit shit.

Warriors fan like to make it sound loke their team is overcoming adversity rather than just accumelating all stars.

Klay couldn't miss. Then Steph began scoring as well, and Russ and KD chocked big time. Donovan too

How’s Mo Bamba doing there? I picked him out to be one of the stars of the most recent draft class (I was even happy for us to initially trade DeRozan for a top 10 pick if it meant we had a chance to get him :nervous:)

He's been good. If Vucevic leaves that will open up some minutes for him as they can't really co-exist but I've liked what I've seen from him. He's a good shot blocker, has a surprisingly decent stroke so should be a career 35% three-point shooter and is incredibly athletic. I like his fit next to Isaac, when they develop it's going to be such a pain in the arse to play against both of them as they are super long, quick and agile shot blockers with a great leap.

I think he will be one of top 5 players in this draft. Doncic, Jaren Jackson Jr, Carter and SGA will be the other four.

Bagley, both Bridges, Sexton and Knox will be highly rated too and will stay in the league in important roles. This was a very, very good draft class. 2017 was amazing too, if you look at top 10 then only Fultz and Jackson look like bums but the you have Mitchell at 13 and Anunoby at 23. Fox, Tatum and Mitchell will be highlights of that draft. Fox is so freaking amazing. FOX.

Which NBA podcasts do you listen to?

I like The Ringer, recently discovered The Starters, Open Floor and Duncd'on but there's too much content on a regular basis for me to keep up. I never skip The Ringer episode, I think Starters or Open Floor will jump to number two for me soon and I'm torn on Duncd'on - I think it's the last fun of all 4 but they seem to know their stuff very well.

Not a fan of Trae Young? Looks like he’s been getting some Lebron-like stats in his rookie season.

Nope, not that convinced by him at all. His biggest strength is apparently shooting and he's shooting less than 25% from three on almost 6 attempts a game. He's had so many games where he was like 0-5, 0-4 etc. If anything his 25% is actually inflated by two performances where he hit 4-10 and 4-8. It will improve but I don't think he will ever become a 43% shooter which he would have to be to compensate for his complete lack of defense and size. His passing is better than I expected though. He was supposed to be "Curry like" but Curry shot 44% out of the box.

His passing is basically the only reason why I don't completely dislike him as a pick. To think that they traded away the chance to get Doncic to get him is mental though.

Lowe post.

Lowe Post is the best. Sources Say is also good. It's tough though to keep up, the NBA season is so long.

I remember mentioning that to you last season . I thought you'd like their in-depth salary cap stuff. Their pro-Warriors stuff can get tiring at times though so the Lowe Post is the only one I listen to regularly - along with OKC specific podcasts.

Trae's been trash...

His shooting is terrible and his numbers only look good because he has the green light to keep shooting despite missing a lot.

Oh yes, it was this one. I like them, I have only started listening to them recently and got through their analysis of all Eastern Conference teams - I don’t necessarily agree with everything they say but it was fun.

Exactly. 25% from three is just inexcusable. He scored 18 last night but again it was 7-19 FG and 3-9 from three, terrible. It will improve but the only reason he’s still playing minutes and isn’t buried on the bench is that he plays for Hawks and nobody cares about the score.

Minnesota 500 now . Hope you didn't put your house on them winning less than 42-43 @Sarni
I didn’t because I could not use any of the bookies that offered it. I regret that as the line was 44.5 and they obviously won’t reach that and the other bet with them not making the playoffs is basically a lock (and it was 2.20). Free money basically, the maximum they will win is 41 (I actually think they will win 37-38 at most) and not a chance they make the playoffs. Not really a prediction I would be calling out as wrong now considering they are barely .500 and 11th in conference that is stacked with quality teams.

Covington has been good for them but Wiggins is still horrendous, Towns has been mostly disappointing, Rose won’t sustain this level for the season and as predicted Thibs is still running his players into the ground which will result in them losing a lot of games in the second half of season.

That's because they're tanking and he's perfect for it.

If they gave minutes to who deserves it, Lin would be starting considering how he's been playing despite coming off a bad injury.

Too early to tell but I think the Blazers stand a better chance to reach the conference finals than OKC does .

Not a chance. We will be out in the first round of playoffs unless we bump into a team with two of their best players injured. I honestly don't see current Blazers beating anybody in a playoffs series.

OKC have a good chance. There are several teams that can make it, for OKC to get there Westbrook needs to become more efficient and stop looking to improve his statistics to the extent he's been doing that over the last few years, and they need Roberson back and in form.

Just realized Utah acquired Kyle Korver last night. I'm not convinced by this trade, not only does it add salary for 2019-20 (Burks was expiring), cost them two second round picks but Burks has actually been good for them this season.

How is Houston so bad all of a sudden, despite Harden putting up huge points?

I haven't seen any games apart from the Lakers ones and only a few highlights, but I wouldn't put it past LeBron to beat the likes of Memphis and the Clippers in a playoff series no matter which team he's on, unless those teams have massively improved since last year. Although even then, I wouldn't ever back the Clippers to reach the Conference Finals.

While Westbrook is one of the more entertaining players in the league, he is overrated imo, and as you say more interested in triple doubles than winning. Should never have choosen him over Durant as the franchise player. If they had, i could see them having at least one title. OKC looks like the likely candidate to reach the finals and getting slaughtered by GSW, with Toronto being the opposition in the finals if Kawhi stays healthy.

Durant is the better player but he also let them down in crucial moments. They both let them down big time in game 6 in 2016 which was the turning point for that franchise. I actually think Paul George compliments Westbrook better than Durant had.

It's hard to say how good Durant is a cornerstone of a franchise. He's clearly one of the 5 best players in NBA but he struggled at time at OKC and his time at Warriors is basicaly worthless when it comes to judging him in that respect. I think if he leaves and joins one of the teams rumored to have a shot at it - Knicks or Clippers - he could have another chance to prove himself as a leader but for now it's still a question. Actually more and more outlets are predicting that he will team up with LeBron in LA which would be the ultimate coward move from him and would make people dislike him and question his legacy even more. He's capable of that though and Lakers are bookies favorites to acquire him next offseason now at +200.

In the East I have Toronto, Milwaukee, Philadelphia and Boston all at 25% to make the Finals. Really impossible to say which of them will make it. If any of them will fall behind, Milwaukee would be my choice but on the other hand they have the best player in the conference and possibly the best coach.
