NBA 2018-2019

$21million for three years is still hilarious for Galloway.

Just had a look at the Laker's roster for the coming season:
  • Lebron
  • Rondo
  • Lonzo Ball
  • Michael Beasley
  • JaVale McGee
  • Lance Stephenson
  • Kyle Kuzma
  • Brandon Ingram

Couple in Lavar Ball's antics and the meme potential of that team is just . To be a fly in that locker room...

Suicide squad. Luke better take a page from Phil's playbook.

Cool to see both my teams in one place.

I’m a bit surprised that Love has already extended at Cleveland and kind of torn what I think about it.

On one hand they need to protect the assets and Love could opt out next year so his value was depreciating. On the other hand he will be 34 towards the end of his contract, has not shown to be able to lead a team to a good record at Minnesota and $30million a year could easily be considered a bad contract if he doesn’t increase his productivity and go back to being a 25 & 12 kind of player.

I think Cleveland want to stay competitive which will be tough. I thought they would try to keep their pick next year which is top 10 protected but with East being weak they might finish just outside top 10 in lottery.

Happened to be listening to Alan Parsons the other day. Best NBA theme music ever.

From North Carolina................

This is weird but I swear you posted this like an hour or so ago?
You're not going crazy. Same music but this one had the player slide show with it so I swapped them.

I'm starting to like Russ.

.....and he even missed the shot to be even more authentic.

In terms of Leonard, where does he actually objectively rank amongst NBA players (obvs when fully fit and on top form).

Am I right in thinking:

1. Lebron
2. Leonard
3. KD
4. Steph
5. ??
Leonard above KD and to a lesser degree Curry is laughable. I mean, he was never as good as them and no-one was mentioning him to be better than them when he was playing. Since then they won 2 rings being very good on both finals, with KD getting 2 MVP finals and suddenly he is above them. How does this make sense?

I said before, he has caught the Lucas Leiva flu. The less he plays, the better he becomes on eyes of many.

No it isn't/wasn't. A lot of people had Leonard as the best two way player in the league not 12 months ago.

@Revan
Yeah that’s what I was hearing
(Ps I’m a very new basketball fan so admittedly am still trying to learn! Was a genuine question.)

Not really. KD was unanimously the second best player in the league, and there were whispers that he is already the best after he won the first finals MVP, outplaying James in those finals.

And one year before that, a lot of people were saying that Steph is the best in the league, after he won back to back MVP and being the first unanimous MVP.

Two way player is even less defined than the 'world class' tag. It can literally mean whatever you want.

I think that he was the fourth best player in the league after last season, and there might have been a few who had him ahead of Steph as third (mostly cause of their defenses). I don't think that anyone was putting him on KD category bar maybe a few of LeBron fanboys (to pretend that KD is not even the second best in the league, let alone near LeBron).

Since then KD and Steph have won 2 rings, with KD winning 2 FMVPs (although I think that it was close between him and Steph for the second and Steph should have got it) while Leonard didn't even bother to play. I think it is only fair to have AD and Harden above him after the events of last year.

 what are you on about? Kawhi Leonard is a 2x defensive player of the year, and he was one of the better offensive players in the league during those seasons (definitely in the second one).

BT are losing the NBA coverage along with UFC. Could be good or bad depending on who picks it up

We all have our own opinions about who are the best players but in all honesty I think the most objective arbiter of who is best is probably the folks at NBA 2K. They don't really have a dog in the race when it comes to who is rated where and the players obviously seem to think it means something because many of them get all worked up if they believe their rating is too low. For this year LeBron is rated top with a 98. Joint second are Steph, KD and James Harden at 96. Next all at 94 are AD, Kawhi and Giannis. I'm not in full agreement but all of those seem pretty reasonable to me.

For those that care.

'whispers' = deluded Warriors/KD fans.
Didn't know that the likes of Paul Pearce, Dwight Howard and many others were deluded Warriors fans. KD outplayed and defeated James on those finals. It was hardly like last finals when James played better but lost cause of no support. So it wasn't very outlandish to suggest that the top player in NBA has changed or was to be changed. Of course, LeBron followed that with best season in a long time, and put those claims to bed.

Davis and Horford both underrated there but mostly fine

They're just deluded in general. Pierce is a well known LeBron hater too so I am not surprised he said it.

Kawhi at his best was better than Curry. Easily.

Disagree about the easily part. Kawhi obviously much better defender. But Curry much better scorer and facilitator of offense. Who you would want depends on what you already have on the team. I personally would always take the player who makes a difference in the team's level of play over the individually awesome player.

I find Curry overrated. He’s a great point guard but not at the level he’s perceived to be at by many which is inflated by his achievements in a great team. I think this Warriors team before Durant was the ultimate example of a team that was much more than its parts.

He was the main reason for the team's achievements though. He was hardly a player in the Warriors system, he was the system.

So him being overrated cause of achievements makes no sense.

I think CP3 is a better PG than Curry but Curry is a far better player than CP3, if that makes sense.

Their system also helped him mask his defensive flaws and get better looks because everyone bar Bogut on that team could shoot.

I think if you put Lillard in that team instead of him they still win that one championship they had won before Durant.

The issue with Warriors is that it’s really hard to rank their achievements. They won the title in a season when nobody expected them to get a sniff at the finals and teams like Clippers were ranked much higher than them. They did not win a championship in a season when everybody expected them to win it and they had the best regular season ever and yes, I know they were 3-1 up in the Finals but they were also 3-2 down in the Conference Finals and on the verge of being eliminated before Durant and Westbrook choked in Game 6. Everything that happened since that season has no meaning because when you add Kevin Durant to a team that is already great without him and has he balance to make it work, there can only ever be one outcome and that is winning the championship.

I’m kind of curious how good they would be without KD now. Still contenders for sure but would they win another championship?

I disagree massively here. Curry isn't the best defensively, but he doesn't need to be especially at his position.

Steph IS the system when it comes to the Warriors, he is the one that facilitates their attack - nobody else in the team can do that to the same extent, KD being the closest. Everybody has their roles, and sure they can shoot, but Steph is the leader 100%. Without him they rely on KD's ISO and individual brilliance.
Steph is a cheat code, he's a 2k player, he's a threat to score once he's a few steps past the half court, and all he needs is to be open for 1 second.
Teams have to change their entire defensive system just to try and contain him - and in doing so, opens up chances for KD, Klay, Green et al.
I would argue that, without Steph - if the Warriors didn't get KD - they would struggle to get in the finals.

There was a statistic floating around when he was injured that showed the impact of the Warriors' scoring when he's on the court vs when he's off it, and I think only LeBron has more of an impact on the team. He's that influential.

From the Washington Post.

"The Warriors’ offense is built around Curry’s ability to move the ball and draw the attention of defenders. His 1.4 points per possession in the half-court offense put him in the 95th percentile of NBA players, and Golden State’s offense is more than 14 points per 100 possessions better when Curry is on the court."

My favorite Curry stat though is this:

In the last 22 games (regular season and playoffs) that Steph has played and KD has been missing the Dubs are 22-0. In that same time period, when KD is in the line up and Steph is out they are 23-10.

That was it! He is the system. You just can't deny his impact, and therefore deny his ability.

The underrating of Steph is bizarre, I get it - I underrated him a few years ago too. He's not particularly muscular, or athletic, looks a little weak and unassuming. But he really is an elite basketball player. He's comfortably top 5 in the league and arguably top 3. (LeBron & KD top 2, AD & Steph interchange for me, plus I have a preference towards Kawhi)
He may not be the best PG (that's still CP3 for me)

I would agree with that but in all honesty Steph is what they seem to be calling these days a combo-guard as opposed to a pure point guard. When you've not led your team in assists in 3 seasons it's hard to claim that you run the point for the team.

Combo guard is a better term to describe him for sure, that being said I don't think there are many pure point guards with the way the league is developing.
Sure guys will lead assists in their team, but I don't think many point guards have a pass-first, shoot only when necessary mentality anymore.

CP3 didn't lead his team in assists last season too. And to plbe fair he played more like a 2 than 1, with Harden keeping more the ball.

Steph is easily the best PG in the league. He just shares the ball much more than other PGs and that is for the good of the team.

Liverpool stakeholder mentioning Man Utd in the same category as the Lakers, Celtics, Pats :nono:

Other than that, interesting interview from LeBron. Extracts can be found on the ESPN Twitter account for those who are interested.
