NBA 2018-2019

Indeed. There is nothing certain in sports apart from Golden State winning the championship in 2018-19.

I can see this team dismantling after this season. Durant is apparently strongly considering New York after this season, Thompson's contract will be up, Cousins won't stay beyond this year for a mid-level exception. I think they'll be left with their initial big 3 (Curry, Thompson and Green) after 2018-19 and still be great but teams will be able to compete against them.
Absolutely. And if Ingram keeps improving like he has, Lonzo becomes a nightly double double threat and Kuzma carries on, coupled with LeBron and probably another all-star next sunmer, Lakers will be as well placed as anyone to make a run.

Celtics and Sixers too.

They must have one of the most inept front offices in the league or they know someone we don't.
I really liked the course they were on, getting youth and building a squad from scratch. I have no idea how they are going to work with what they have and really fear they will make some bogus trade deals with their promising players and future drafts.

Randle wanted to leave. That's been the talk for a few days now.

Lakers are clearly looking at next year to challenge for the championship.

So what if he wanted to leave? He was RFA, you match the offer then you trade him. If he wants to go somewhere else, you do sign-and-trade. You don't let a player like that walk away for nothing when all he gets in the market is $9million.

Really good deal for Cousins. Coming of an injury he wasn't getting any decent offers, now he can recover, win a ring, look really good in the process then get a max deal next summer.
He said that he didn't get offers. Or more likely, didn't get good offers (be it financially or for decent teams). And Warriors can give him enough time to rehab before he goes again in free market.

To all KD haters, another reason to hate him. If he had gone for max contract with Dubs (apparently he could have got another few millions though not super max) then Dubs wouldn't have been able to get Boogie.
Pelicans had offered him more money.

When you put it like that.

Durant ain't leaving guys, sorry. He signed that contract cause next year he can opt out and get a higher contract.

Also, when did NY did something right? They're a terribly run franchise.

I think he will leave the Warriors eventually to prove he can win a ring on his own. He always get clowned for joining GSW.

Adrian Wojnarowski replying to a Steph Curry tweet. " Free agent Jesus Christ has signed with the Golden State Warriors, league source tells ESPN."

Amused me anyway.

Yep. Well connected people have been saying this for a while. He's also very good friends with Deandre Jordan and it wouldn't surprise me if they wanted to play together.

Next season is when a lot of decisions have to be made. First of all the Chase Center is due to open prior to the start of the 2019-20 season so I think the Dubs will try to keep everyone together until the move is complete. At the same time however, both KD and Klay will be UFAs if Durant chooses to opt out of his 1+1 and so this is where the rubber hits the road. If Klay can make an all-NBA team both will be eligible for super max deals. If that happens (and even if it doesn't to be honest) I think he will try to give the Dubs some sort of discount because I believe he wants to stay indefinitely, KD on the other hand at that point has a huge decision to make. After next year the Warriors have his "Bird rights" and thus can offer him that super max deal. If he opts out and says he wants to become a free agent and leave that super max is off the table. Personally I think he takes another 1+1 especially if the Dubs win next year but with some sort of unspoken agreement that when he finally wants to call it a day the Warriors try to work out some sort of sign and trade so that he can keep his eligibility for the super max with his next team. Decisions, decisions, decisions!

Porzingis, Durant and DeAndre teaming up in New York? A team full of skyscrapers certainly suits the city, at least.

Wouldn’t surprise me. The NBA these days is pretty much a cartel of superstars making private arrangements to form super teams to essentially guarantee a ring.

This all started thanks to Lebron and Chris Bosh.

That would be fun to watch. Frankie Smokes to provide hard nosed defense at the guard position, and if he can improve his handling and shooting he'd become the perfect facilitator for the offensive stars to work their magic. I so badly want KP to have good teammates and a stable organization around him.

This may be too soon after Boogie yesterday but there's probably going to be an MLE available next year if he want to give Bob Myers a call.

They would've done so if there was trade value. The market for bigs that can't shoot wasn't there if you look at the deals that were made this offseason.

Portland are so fecked salary wise and the owner doesn’t seem to want to pay any luxury tax that OKC owners don’t mind paying. I can kind of understand it because this roster is nowhere near contending and probably not even playoffs material now.

Nurkic is taking QO which means that he will either be traded during the season or leave for nothing after season because they won’t be able to even give him $8million without stepping into luxury tax. In the meantime Meyers Leonard, Evan Turner and Maurice Harkless will make combined $39million a year.

My main interest next season will be how Trae does in the NBA.

He had a torrid time in his summer league debut last night. Obviously summer league isn't entirely predictive of actual performance, but he basically highlighted the doubts people had about him - tiny size and erratic decision making - and he shot horribly, which ought to at least have been his strong suit. I'd chalk it up to nerves and a more physical game for now, but there are already knee-jerkers trashing him.

On the flip side, Jaren Jackson had a monster game for Memphis. Shot the 3-ball like a Splash Bro. Memphis has set themselves up to rebuild nicely after they get the Parsons and Gasol contracts off their books.

They're friends with Kyrie, as well. He said on a podcast recently that NBA players talk with "their guys" all the time about playing together. Durant is one of "his guys".

Take it you don't pay attention to the teams who aren't winning the trophies. We finally have competant management in Mills, Perry and Coach Fizdale. In fact Hezonja who we have just signed has said he was blown away by how well they came across and it made him want to go to NY.

Jaren Jackson is a tremendous talent. I think in 2-3 years he’s widely recognized as the best big man from this draft.

Yeah and it’s always New York. I think Knox will prove to be a very good acquisition, Porzingis is a star, they will have plenty of cap flexibility next year plus East isn’t that stacked so making finals there with Durant in the team could be quite straightforward. New York is a fantastic market, if both Kyrie and Durant go there they will be immediate contenders. I think 2019-20 could shape up to be a fantastic season if the right moves are made in the meantime.

I agree. I may be biased because I'm a Big Ten watcher and lifelong fan, but I was very high on Jackson before this draft - better than Bagley on both ends although he doesn't have as much athletic potential. Similar comparison to Ayton, for me. The thing that really caught my eye was how much heart and grit he has, making him a perfect piece to build around moving forward. I'm very excited to watch him play against top competition this year.

Keep our assets? we just threw away Randle for free! :(
Doesn't look too bright in hindsight with Cousins signing with GS (and Jules being one of our best players last season), but he did want to leave (since we couldn’t guarantee him being a key piece to our future) and it seems Aaron Mintz is on bad terms with the Lakers. His future was always in question with us, and he only got 2 years $18m in this inflated market, so not the most sought after player. Gonna miss his tough play and defense though.

Cousins signing with GS is bad, but we don't know how Boogie will look following the Achilles injury. Golden State is a team who can afford to take on the risk. They'll let Boogie take it slowly and probably bring him back late this year/early next, win him his ring, and he’ll most likely move on as a one year rental. He's just an extra level of insurance; they don't even need him to win the title.

The key will obviously be whether or not we hit a home run on the likes of Kawhi or Klay. We have a small window to take advantage of Lebron’s peak before he declines (and this season already looks like a write off). If we miss out on the big guns, Lebron will be wasting his final years with us unless Zo, Kuz, BI turn into all-star caliber players quickly.

My impression from watching his highlights and reading multiple scouting reports is that he’s basically good at everything - great inside defender, good perimeter defender, good outside shooter, good inside the post area, great shot blocker, adequate passer. Bagley is a better rebounder, Ayton is a better scorer but both have serious deficiencies at the defensive end. Bamba is a potentially fantastic defender but he doesn’t have the offense to go with it. Jackson is basically very good at everything.

He’s also got himself in a perfect environment at a Grizzlies team that is nowhere near as bad as last years standing suggested.

It’s not an inflated market anymore, it’s a market with no money left.

That's pretty much spot on, to be honest. Jackson is an all-rounder with legit 3-point range and a ferocious defensive attitude (he registered so many blocks last year). Ayton has the athletic upside to project as a legit superstar, while Bagley isn't far behind in terms of the sort of dominance he showed at the college level. But both have serious question marks about their defense. In my opinion, Bagley is a surer thing than Ayton, purely because Ayton's not shown that he has the right mentality to become a good defender, whereas Bagley is from all reports incredibly driven and an intensely hard worker. Bamba is a monster with incredible wingspan, but unless his revamped jumper is legit, he won't be much more than a great defensive piece. Jackson has the highest potential out of all 4 to be a consistent starter on a playoff team 3-5 years down the line.

I get what you’re saying, but if JR was seen as a key player, some team would have paid him more (considering his age and production which saw solid improvement each year). $9m/year is still a pittance in the NBA.

Thing is, nobody has that money anymore. Teams like Atlanta, Chicago and Indiana can create enough cap space to give $15million+ to a player but the first two are tanking and not really interested and Indiana have a superior player in his position.

$9million a year which is full MLE in this league is a rare commodity this season, actually. Most teams don’t even have that available.

I’m not saying Randle is amazing but the fact that he only got $9million a season was another reason to keep him.

You dont need cap space for the MLE, that's what the E stands for. Any team already over the cap has it.

I know. Not every team has full MLE, some only have taxpayer’s MLE (Warriors, Thunder, Blazers and plenty of others) which is less than $5.5million. I probably exaggerated with most, I would think it’s half the league that has it and half that hasn’t.

Time for every team to start the tank war. there is no point anymore. you wont even to be able to make a series out of the finals. warriors in 4 without it ever be close.

Why the drama? The Rockets were a CP injury away from defeating them. Apparently Cousins won't even play before the playoffs. And when he does who's to say how he'll play? Maybe he'll disturb the flow.

I think Houston will do em next year, and even Lakers with Lebron now have a chance.
Way too pessimistic from everyone here.
