NBA 2016-17

With Aldrige out probably for the rest of the season and Warriors being a mess without KD, are the Rockets now favourites to take the West?

Spurs are very strong even without Aldridge, and Durant will return for playoff.

Spurs could probably field a bunch of D-League players and still win. They are amazing.

Well, they defeated Warriors by 20 points without Leonard, Aldridge, Parker and Ginobili, with Gasol continuing being on the bench, so probably you're right.

If Durant doesn't return, it is difficult to see past them winning the conference, and I would favor them against Cavalieres too. Leonard is playing on God mode, sure a fully inspired James is still a better player, but Leonard isn't far off. They have incredible depth and I would say that they are quite a bad match for Cavalieres. If Durant returns, Curry starts playing like a very good player instead of someone that can't shoot, then Warriors win, but otherwise, Spurs should win.

They took a player like Dedmon, a bench player with zero impact for Orlando Magic, and turned him into a fairly decent center who gets significant minutes. There isn't a player in the NBA that Pop could not improve.

Warriors struggling to beat the Sixers of all teams. Dubs are down 12 heading into the 4th. Good chance, they'll pull this out in the end...but, Curry is still bricking everything.

Good quarter from the Dubs - pulled it out. Not won many close ones this year. Draymond was a beast all night.

Warriors even struggle to beat Philadelphia these days and need good performances from all of their big three to win by 2 points. I would even be worried about a potential matchup against Grizzlies or Nuggets if Durant does not come back in time.

Seems Portland are almost out of playoffs picture after loss to New Orleans. 29-37 while Denver are 32-35. It's time to let Minnesota, Dallas and New Orleans to go above us to get ourselves into a better draft position.

BTW does anyone else think the whole draft lottery system is a bit wrong and creates pathological situations where a team would rather lose towards the end of season than win, which is bad for the sport? Getting your team up the draft ladder seems to be the only goal for some teams and it can last for years. Currently there are about 10 teams who already know they will not make playoffs and their sole purpose for the last 1 month of season is to lose as many games as they possibly can to get a better lottery seed. It's crazy.

Not sure what to think about margin of victory any more and whether it is truly indicative of a powerhouse team. The Spurs are 11-1 in their last 12 games but there is a 4 game stretch in there where they beat the Pacers by 1, beat the Pelicans in OT, beat the Wolves in OT and then beat the Rockets by 2. The bottom line is that they won. What I was impressed with last night as far as the Dubs were concerned was - yes they did win, but also they they came back from a large deficit in the fourth quarter to do so. Even with Durant, that has largely not happened this year. Hope they can turn it into a habit (like the Spurs) and start winning those close ones.

Dubs started tanking their first spot after losing to Nuggets back in February, so that they can avoid them in playoffs first round.

Nuggets fans be like.

Shamelessly stolen from Reddit.

Their first half shooting performance that night was one of the best I have ever seen. From memory I think they hit 16 3s. If they play like that for the series, I don't want the top seed.

They won't. It was one off perfect game from Nuggets. Their team has good depth but Jokic is the only truly great player there.

Think they had 24/40 that night. They might've tied that Houston's record (now broken by Cavs).

Logic goes out of window in the NBA. Portland lose by 23 points in New Orleans, recording the lowest scoring game of season with 77 points, travel all the way to San Antonio to play Spurs who had rested the night before and were home in the previous two games, got Aldridge and Leonard back and yeah, Portland win.

Pop obviously read my post and is frightened of playing Denver. :)

Are you sure Warriors want to play Memphis though? The team that beat them twice this season already, once by 21 points with Conley missing and once after losing by about 20 going into fourth quarter.

At the moment, I don't want to play anybody. If the Dubs get KD back and can return to where they were prior to his injury I don't think it matters who they play in the first round to be honest.

Memphis definitely match up best with Warriors from bottom half of playoffs candidates.

Any updates on KDs recovery?

And what is going on with Phoenix and Bledsoe? Reports are that they're deliberately sitting him out for the rest of the season (in order to tank obviously) while others say he's injured?

I'd rather play the Warriors than the Spurs. We've beaten the Spurs once, but Kawhi was out.

We're just coming out of a 5 game losing streak (won the last 2). Parsons is out for the rest of the season. We desperately need our bench and role players to score. Tony Allen is losing his defensive spark. Conley and Gasol have been great, as well as Z-Bo off the bench, but we'll only go as far as those 3 can take us.

But we have enough juice to tame the Warrior's front unit to some extent. If we can snag a free agent SF before the regular season ends I like our chances against the Warriors or Rockets.

The last I heard he was still limping but was going through shootarounds without his knee brace, all be it from a standstill. They were hoping he could move on to jumpers sometime next week. I've heard various reports that he'll be back before the end of the season and others that he won't be back until playoffs. I think the only thing that is certain is that he will be re-evaluated close to the end of this month and then the rest is up in the air.

What free agent small forwards are there? Had a look and there is feck all to choose from.

We're scraping the bottom of the barrel, but Omri Casspi is available. And I'd rather he play for extended periods at the 3than Vince Carter.
Pelicans released Casspi? He is good.

Now that Miami have caught Detroit they won't let it go. Amazing form for the past 2 and a half months. I wonder where they go from here though, the only two players they have who will keep this sort of form for longer might be Dragic and Whiteside and Dragic is not young. They will not have much cap space even if they let Bosh go as they will want to re-sign Waiters. They won't get a high pick like they were supposed to either, everyone thought it was going to be rebuild time but it turned into a cinderella story. Sort of like Portland last year, we lost 4 first team player and still made it to 5th seed and Conference semifinal.

Maybe Westbrook's best game of the season. Very good win, closing in on the #5 seed.

Better from the Dubs last night. It really helped that they didn't immediately fall into a hole with Klay scoring 21 in first quarter. Last few games it has always seemed that they were pushing a rock up a hill immediately after the tip off. Having said that, the Magic are a bad basketball team so I'm not sure any corners have been turned (Liverpool FC ®). On the plus side, they did look a lot like the old Warriors with good ball movement and to be honest even though it sounds cheesy - a smile on their face. Ever since KD went down it has always seemed to me that a good part of their problem was attitude - somebody always seemed pissed (or feeling sorry for themselves) at something and it bled over into their game. As to Steph, his 3 point shooting is still way off. He scored 25 points last night on only 15 shots but was once again only 2-7 from behind the arc. This is something that has to be sorted out before the playoffs because even if KD gets back to 100% if Steph stays in this slump the Warriors can forget winning it all.

Ah Freak out! Le Freak, c'est Chic - but not tonight.

Slump? What slump?

So Warriors are going to end like the team with the best record in the league after all. 2.5 point lead in comparison with Spurs.

The East has become more interesting now. If Celtics win tonight, they will be a single point behind Cavaliers.

Ibaka is on fire today. Going to be interesting once the Raptors get Lowry back!

The Harden and Westbrook season-long duel is really entertaining. Every time one of them does something that just seems so ridiculous, the other comes out and tops it. Even though OKC would probably lose, I'd love to see them head-to-head in a best of seven series.

Also, it still makes me sad that the Thunder had Durant, Westbrook and Harden but failed to win. So much individual talent :(. Plus Ibaka, who is no slouch himself.
